Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

I started playing Metroid Prime 2 recently with the latest version. The performance is awesome. (Playing with maximum Internal Res and at 1920x1080p)
I get constant 60 FPS, except for the map if I use OpenGL, but it gets constant 60 in D3D + Vsync.

It's great and jaw dropping.

Too bad for the black bar though

i never noticed the black bar (prime 1) but my monitor is 16:10 so i'm used to black bars :p

and yeah, i get 60 fps with a few drops here and there but mostly runs perfect. i'm playing it at 2x cos my computer isn't too beefy, but it looks great and runs great

amazing new version, so cool

Oh, no, just Metroid.

I've seen some configs for SS but haven't been able to test that. From what I hear, most of them are kind of janky but work fine if you're patient.
Uh, either way it would be interesting if you could share the config or at least a screenshot. I do plan to eventually play Metroid Prime 3 on Dolphin.

Yeah, that's fine. Just from your last post it seemed like you were only interested in SS. Let me get a few screens.

Actually this works better:

[Profile]
Device = XInput/0/Gamepad
Buttons/A = `Shoulder L` | `Button A`
Buttons/B = `Shoulder R` | `Button B`
Buttons/1 = `Pad S`
Buttons/2 = Start
Buttons/- = Back | `Pad W`
Buttons/+ = `Thumb R` | `Pad E`
Buttons/Home = RETURN
IR/Center = 100.000000
IR/Width = 90.000000
IR/Height = 63.000000
IR/Up = `Right Y+`
IR/Down = `Right Y-`
IR/Left = `Right X-`
IR/Right = `Right X+`
Swing/Up = `Button Y`
Shake/Threshold = 0.000000
Shake/Y = `Button Y`
Extension = Nunchuk
Nunchuk/Buttons/C = `Button X`
Nunchuk/Buttons/Z = `Trigger L`
Nunchuk/Stick/Up = `Left Y+`
Nunchuk/Stick/Down = `Left Y-`
Nunchuk/Stick/Left = `Left X-`
Nunchuk/Stick/Right = `Left X+`
D-Pad/Up = `Pad N`
D-Pad/Down = `Thumb L`
D-Pad/Left = `Pad W`
D-Pad/Right = `Pad E`

Also, If you have a way to adjust the deadzone on your controller, do so. If not, your aim will sometimes drift when idle.

I posted a few pages back about the wii remote not paring with my PC. Anyway to fix that?

Also with the sensor bar can I just have my wii plugged in and use that (its right by my computer)? The sensor bar just needs power right? Its not sending a signal to the computer is it?

Heh

Thanks for pointing out the distinction. I'll experiment tonight.

I forgot about those options from when I played Prime 1. I'll mess around in the options tonight.

You may be well served with the VR fork for the Prime games https://github.com/cegli/dolphin/commits/VR-Hydra

I'm getting solid performance even while fixing the black bar issue, which degrades performance even further on a 2500k OC'd and 970 set up.

For The black bar, try disabling either the dual core usage or enabling GPU Sync.

I noticed Dolphin does have borderless full screen now, can try that instead of vsync.

Hmm but that github you showed me isn't that just for virtual reality setups like occulus? I don't have that, just a regular pc.

Thanks for trying to help though.

Only have the bolded ones and just fixed the Black bar with Grief.exe settings.
I use EFB to RAM but I didnt notice performance degradation whatsover.

EDIT:

I'm using D3D by the way, I find it way better compared to OpenGL with my AMD card (280x using Omega drivers)

Same here, never tried OpenGl alwayd d3d. Weird how the game can run beatiful for some and worse for others. But i'm glad you're enjoying it, one of the best fps out there. Especially in 4k resolution!

Thanks you!

I will see if I can adjust the deadzone, it is actually starting to bother me when the characters starts walking left for no reason whatsoever.

Your Wii just needs to be on to power the sensor bar. The Wii remote sees the bar's IR lights and works with it from there, the sensor bar doesn't communicate with your PC in any way from what I've read.

If you want to make it simpler, invest in a wireless sensor bar. They usually run on batteries so you won't need to keep your Wii on.

I finally found a problem with Metroid Prime 2 (GC version)
When using the D3D render, certain objects are unable to be scanned... which includes some doors that are unlocked after being scanned.

OpenGL works fine with it, but I have lower performance there.

It seems the D3D plugin does not have a 100% implementation of EFB to RAM which is needed to fix this Scanning issues.

Bummer, other than that, still very solid.

Love taking Metroid Prime 2 screenshots.

You can still use that fork even without the use of Oculus, it has generaly improvements baked in specifically for running those games in widescreen.

Not sure if it is worth running over the latest versions of Dolphin which have had significant improvements.

Ah, seems like I missed out on the fun.

Anyway, decided to play some more Xenoblade and it's indeed shader caching. After playing two hours the game ran smooth as butter, only stuttering slightly when entering new areas. Maybe I should try the UHD pack again, it should not pose any problems to a GTX 970. Unless it's that damned 0.5GB!

Im using a laptop with integrated graphics. I'm not even sure anything will work. so I don't mind having the wii on.

I still have my wii to play on. When I get a PC in the next year or so I'll probably invest in one of those

I'm able to run the UHD pack on my 7950 3GB at 3x IR, 2x AA, and 16x AF so you should be fine

Super newb here. I don't know much about the specs required for this to run this to make it look great, but I have a Macbook Air (i5, most current model), which I doubt will be able to run much. But I also have a old build computer, with a 250 GTS, with a Phenom X4 II 840 processor.

Can someone just let me down easy and tell me that I should probably build a better computer to play these games, or tell me what is a good combo for this? Thanks a ton!

Yeah, but I rather keep playing at 5x IR, 8x AA and 16x AF :P. The UHD is only nice for the clouds and water, it doesn't contain much for the rest.

To be fair, the UHD pack has only been recently released and is only on the second release. I'm sure it'll get better with time, just like the other texture packs.

is the Prime trilogy still kinda broken on Dolphin?

I tried for weeks to get it running correct.. Ran like shit, sub 15fps most of the time on various builds. When I tried that custom Dolphin build (can't remember the name) it ran locked 60fps! I was so happy! Then I went to scan the first thing I'm Prime and it crashed. Gave up after that.

I'm not that sensitive to jaggies and I barely even notice the difference between 3x and 4x IR so I'd rather have the UHD pack :lol

Yeah, that's why I'll be holding out a bit.

Just took a quick look at r2, they have a handful of environment area locations updated as well now beyond just water and clouds. Probably worth checking in a few months to see how much more is added, but if you have the GPU for it there's no harm in using them. Didn't seem to push my 970 too hard.

Settings for reference are 1920x1200, D3D, 4x IR, 8x AA, 16x AF

Do I input those codes all at once or one at a time?

Within Dolphin it's one at a time.

If you're lazy like me you can also paste all the codes for each game into their game settings files under the Action Replay section.

These files are found in [dolphin folder]\Sys\GameSettings

Prime 1 is GM8E01.ini
Prime 2 is G2ME01.ini

Don't forget to enable each code in dolphin afterwards.

I'm getting pretty discouraged as well. It ran decently for a little while, changed some settings, it didn't work, changed them back and it still messes up. Tried DX9, 11, as well as OpenGL. Tried the Ishiiruka build, as well as the latest build.

Heh, I really wish it would work.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread too much and I was wondering... A few weeks ago I think I heard that someone made a driver for the GC/WiiU adapter so that it would be compatible with Dolphin. Does this mean I can play Metroid Prime 1 and 2 on Dolphin using a GC controller + the adapter?

Mac book drivers are the main issue. The pc you mentioned just needs a new graphics card and it should be fine.

Yes.

So here's a question regarding the nightly dev builds: Is there any way to auto update to keep getting the latest version? Or do I just keep deleting the older versions and downloading the newer ones manually? I was using a build from January 10th, and I was surprised to see there was so many improvements made in the last few weeks.

Delete and download the newer ones manually. If you are crafty, you can also script yourself an application that does it automagically for you.

Speaking of new versions, there is really no way to use share save states between different versions?
Mind if I share a few shots from the last area of Prime 1?
Nice pictures, but have in mind that this isn't a spoiler free thread (iirc) and lots of people haven't played Prime yet.

You could try manually hex editing them so their internal name matches the latest SVN... but it would be terrible idea to do so. Especially with how quickly Dolphin is changing it's core systems lately, you'll likely just crash the emu.

Just make memory card saves like a normal person when switching versions.
