Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

Is there a guide to setting up a 360 gamepad to function like a classic controller rather than the GCN controller? I didn't see anything.

Just set it to an emulated wiimote and then enter in the button presses.

It doesn't recognize hardly any of the button presses. I assume I'm missing a plugin, but I can't find any options for plugins in the config in the first place

I downloaded Dolphin on my new computer and when I clicked the .exe an error message came up saying "The Program can't start because VCOMP100.DLL is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem". Im trying to run it in windows 7 64bit on the new imac.

Disregard my last post, configured myself.

Ummmm I thought I would test Wind Waker in full res on my Imac 27".... HOLY SHIT it looks so damn amazing and is running like a dream? I didn't think Dolphin would work in 2560 by 1440 or whatever the Imac resolution is? This is actually better looking than any 360/PS3 game...
2011 iMac?

Yeah, I should have reposted. It runs full frames on the initial island but slows a little when things get more hectic, down to like 26-27 frames when running at 2560x1440. If I set it to 1080p it runs at full speed all the time and still looks incredible. So happy with it.

Cool, I have a maxed out 2011 mbpro so performance should be similar. How does F-zero run?

Ps. Are you using bootcamp? I'm assuming Dolphin osx is not quite there yet.

Unfortunately I don't have F-Zero so can't check it out, but I'm sure it would run like a dream. I will try out Mario Sunshine on the weekend, that would look amazing in Dolphin. Wind Waker in particular looks bloody incredible though.

That's using Bootcamp with Windows 64bit.

I've been playing with Dolphin's ability to rip individual files (or all of them) from GCN/Wii disc rips. It's been especially fun to run across the odd set of sounds that will play in Winamp without any plugins I didn't already have. In particular: Super Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros., and F-Zero GX were some of them I was pleased to see. Rockin' that Captain Falcon music.

Also allows me to find out interesting things like that while Super Mario Sunshine is a 1.1 GB game, only 257 MB of it isn't FMV.

Apologies if this is answered anywhere else in the thread, but does anyone know how to get more virtual storage space with this emulator? I'm not sure how saves work, and I'd like to think this emulator can get around the data restrictions that make sense on the console, but not so much on a PC.

Not so much. For emulation's sake, I'm assuming they deliberately don't make enhancements and just mimic the system as is so as to not break anything. Though for the GameCube, it's easy enough to just backup the User/GC/MemoryCard files and generate new ones as needed.

Try installing http://hcs64.com/vgmstream.html

It's a winamp plugin which allows you to play the vast majority of audio in GC and Wii games. Works great along with dolphin to rip them.

So I just had to say, I finally tried this out tonight with Metroid Other M, running at 1920 x 1080 and I need to get a damn wireless sensor bar cause it looked amazing.

What does it mean if I'm getting exactly the same performance out of F-Zero GX when I have 1080p with AA on as I do when I run it natively with AA turned off? Am I missing something here or is the emulator just not up to speed yet?

System specs are:
CPU - Intel Core i7 920 overclocked to 3.5 GHz
GPU - Nvidia GTX 560 Ti

On some tracks I get close to 60 FPS, but on some it dips all the way down to 30 and the game runs at half speed.

what cooling do you have that you can OC an i7 920 to 3.5?

At what temps are you running ?

A 3.5 GHz OC on a 920 isn't exactly unusual. Some people have seen upwards of 4GHz clocks on lucky chips. I'm running a 4GHz OC on a 920 myself, around 37-47C for all cores.

autobzooty: it means you're CPU limited in that game.

Those aren't load temps, unless you're running watercooling.

Typical load is around 57-63C. 100% tickles 70C. Using a Noctua NH-D14.

Yup. It's been a great CPU since I bought it. Highest it's hit is 76C after about 8 hours at 100% load. I'll probably use watercooling for my next build, since prebuilt watercooling systems are becoming more efficient and readily available, but Noctua's air cooling has served me very well.

Audie, just from looking at that build I'd say you could shave off a bit of heat if you'd orient your fan so it pulled air from over your RAM instead of the hot air off your GPU. But that would require reseating your heatsink.

I reoriented the fan after that photo. i don't remember right know if it is up or down right now.
will let you know when i check the PC later.

They made some interface changes in 7577
Last major UI change before release.
- Moved display related options in the "Display" tab from the general config to the gfx config, renamed the tab to "Interface"
- Moved Wiimote related options in the "Wii" tab from the general config to the wiimote config
- Moved various other options to more appropriate places ("Set Console as NTSC-J", "Skip GC BIOS"
- Dropped "Window Size" adjustment
- Now displaying a warning if one tries to enable software rendering
- Other minor changes

Glad they finally threw the fullscreen resolution setting in the graphics config

Tatsunoko is looking hot there. Any special texture filtering or are they that good?

Also, while my 4 cores are going insane at 80%-90% each when emulating some games, my CPU never goes beyond 15%. What happened to that option to offload some processing power on the GPU, with CUDA? I remember only seeing it on some SVN build a long time ago.

Damn, TvC lookin' nice. I'm terrible at fighting games outside of Smash, but I'm a bit bummed that I didn't grab it for $10 when I saw it at Best Buy on clearance.

They're definitely some of the better looking models, some of the smaller profiles characters got the shaft in detail.

Some Red Steel 2, this puppy really needs a PS3 Move port. I believe these only had 2x or 4x aa going on.

So if I can get a couple games to run full speed in PCSX2, what are the odds I can use Dolphin well? Obviously I would assume it depends on the game, but...

Core 2 Duo at 3ghz
Radeon HD5670
2gb of DDR2 SRAM

Why is my in-game resolution stuck at 1460x914 no matter what I set it the config to?
Assuming you are on a newish bulid. If you're running in a window make sure you've set the window to resize correctly and if you're full screen make sure you're using that option. I remember in older bulids it liked to change my resolution at random (but these were the ones where you full control rather than limited by the drop-down list).

I'm actually on a recent build now (which was fun as the usual as you're missing some other .dll file happened then the 64-bit version didn't work at all) as I decided to finally get my Classic Contrller pro working as a gamecube controller to play some Gamecube games (basically glovepie script which calls to imaginary PPJoy controller) and the game I was playing had issues in my old build. I'll have to remember to migrate all the Wii data over it to soon *sigh* and also fiddle with settings.

Edit: That was simple. Fixed the Baten Kaitos menu graphics issue by setting EFB to ram then enabling cache. Well I don't think I quite did I think I've just made a new problem :( Now to see if the layering glitches are gone...
Edit2. Nope. This is what I mean its a minor distraction. also need to check if the freeze effects and some effects are working...

Hey guys so I really want to try this emulator out to play some of my favorite games in HD and I have some questions.

I was wondering if there was a downloadable config out there or a tutorial to configure the Dualshock 3 for Dolphin use?

Is there an updated configuration tutorial like the one in the OP for the current version of dolphin?

Is your computer already set up to use the DS3 as a gamepad? That's a bit of a process in and of itself. The assigning of gamepad buttons to buttons to use in Dolphin is pretty intuitive.

is this worth doing on a mac?

If your Wii is already homebrewed and you have your games backed up to an external drive, definitely. The initial process to get it running doesn't involve a lot of steps

Yeah I have my DS3 hooked up and ready to go on my PC with Motionjoy and its being emulated as an Xbox 360 controller. The problem is dolphin won't detect it sometimes.

Unfortunately my YT Channel has gone kaput along with all my Dolphin videos I neglected to back up. Luckily this and finals week being over gives me an excuse to go back rerecord everything on more current builds.

Do you mean under the Device dropdown in the Wiimote Configuration section (assuming it's being emulated as a 360 controller) that 'XInput/0/Gamepad' (which should be what corresponds to your gamepad) isn't listed sometimes?

Sorry for the late response but the DS3 is configured with Dolphin and good to go. Just want to know how I can get some Gamecube games to run in widescreen and how fix some minimal choppy sound.
