Donkey Kong Bananza |OT| Red Faction Gorilla

I am enjoying the game but I do want to say that I enjoyed Super Mario Odyssey a lot more. Still, this is pretty fun. The part I don't care much for, unlike most here, is the destructibility. I am not sure how to describe what I feel, but I think it serves no purpose (feels a bit shallow, but perhaps that might change later) outside of collecting gold/extras or hiding other stuff—it does add another layer of "discoverability" to the game I suppose. The OCD in me wants to destroy everything possible, was doing that earlier but now I have just told myself to stop and move on lol.
I do understand what you're saying, and I initially felt similar.

But as soon as you reconcile to the fact that this is *not* a 3D Mario game and is, instead, a chaotic adventure game, it all clicks in.

In short, exceedingly fun game but I want another Mario.

I wasn't expecting that or the clothing having bonus effects
It's pretty neat. I'd highly recommend getting the "Treasure Tie" and upgrading it fully. Increases spawn rate of treasure chests by 30%. Seems kind of busted.

I've played a few hours at this point and is on the third of the main layers I guess. Game is just pure, unadulterated fun, it's really what Nintendo excels at. So damn much to do though, I found the collection screen and my God have I missed a lot.

I think what Robb Robb said earlier in the thread - going for the scan upgrade - is the right thing to do, it really makes a huge difference.

Turn off camera shake. Game is way smoother without it.

Another pristine example of Nintendo building its games around extremely enjoyable, tactile gaming mechanics.

So, so much fun.

It's 2:30an here in Arizona and I'm still playing this damn game, and barely progressed. The need to smash everything is 100% real.

They nailed the visual and audio destruction. This game is truly something special.

I've tried in both portable and docked and like them both. I will easily be jumping back and forth between them.

When pinning a fossil or banana on the map, it isn't visible in gameplay? What does pinning do exactly?
If you sing/Whistle it will show you were it is/how far away it is

Oh I forgot that it's increasing the spawn rate of treasures and was wondering why I found dozens of them. Like, often 3 right next to each other. Feels like cheating :/

Some stages have more than one banana.
Yeah I mean when you get to the circular arena and there is only 1 in front of you and a barrel behind it. It just seems a bit redundant at this point to force me to run forward and jump into the barrel then hit another button to launch back into the overworld.

The button layout makes sense though.
It goes against muscle memory. The B button is the default jump button in every platformer I've played. Hold Y to run fast and press the base of your thumb down over the B button to jump. Can't think of a single one I've used the A button to jump.

You guys, this thread is really making holding off on getting the S2 difficult.

I may be getting a nice retro pay check from work here in the next few weeks, and if I do I might just pull the trigger.

I did take my Switch 2 to work yesterday. My boss wanted to add me to his friends list lol
To check up to see if your playing instead of working.

'darth shrimp I'd like you to explain how you were logged into Switch Online at 11:05 when you were supposed to be doing [whatever it is you do]'

'But boss, if you checked it means you weren't working too lol haha, got ya, haha lol'

'That's not how it works'

I think I'm pretty much done with the first sublevel (100)?

According to the collection page (Y when looking at the map), I have all bananas from that level, and only half the fossils, but all the chests I dig up have started pointing to ones on sublevel 101, so I guess, unlike bananas, they're grouped up by region on that page?

I can't take my switch 2 to work

This game is fucking crack

If it was any other company than Nintendo I would have suspected they did studies on the gold sounds and destruction physics to make sure all dopamine hits in the brain are maxed out like how a casino would study human psyche to get them to stay to the point where adults wear diapers to not miss anything

Yeah, i envy you people able to play this.
Too bad they ditched the Switch 1 version.

I am really enjoying DK Bananza so far after playing it for about 3 hours last night and literally having to drag myself off the game to go to bed for work the next morning. It is certainly very addictive!

Apart from a wonky camera at times, which I experienced pretty much straight away as I spent 20 minutes trying to completely clear out the opening room before I even spoke to the first chimp, which kept getting stuck or obscuring my view, and some performance issues, which really don't bother me as much as I expected during play since they occur fairly infrequently and only when things get really hectic; more annoying are the obvious drops in the map screen and during cutscenes... kind of wish these were both locked to 30 fps, I think this is a terrific game that captures that all-important fun factor that Nintendo are famous for.

It has been a while since I played a game that made me grin from ear to ear but this definitely did that. The level design really is amazing and I am in awe of how much I can smash up and how expansive they are in terms of verticality with the different sub-layers. This definitely adds to the thrill of exploration and I am constantly finding new things to distract me. Apart from the initial camera issue I haven't found any other part of the game frustrating or annoying. This is a game that wants you to have a good time playing it.

My only real complaint is that the audio mix seems a bit subdued and quiet. I could barely hear the music on the volume that sounds fine for every other game through my Samsung 7.1 soundbar, plus in traditional Nintendo fashion there are no Audio options to adjust the volume of the music, and sound effects.

Wow, speedrunners are gonna have a lot of fun with this game. Major BOTW emergent gameplay vibes here.

I played CoOp with the wife yesterday and the fact that you can build using certain materials is really fun in that mode. She just kept shooting stuff and built bridges to all kinds of places. It's a very "OP" feature in CoOp.

Goddamn man this game is so satisfying to play. I got all bananas on first sublayer, now im doing the second one. I just cant stop playing. Incredible gameplay

There was one banana in the challenges of Lagoon that I couldn't find, the place where you have to hang from ceiling rails and there's concrete layers passing by to make you fall. They have holes in them and I spot a place that has the ceiling grill go somewhere which I imagine is where the remaining banana is, but there's never an opening on the concrete wall that allows me to go there. Was wondering if I have to get back there once I can transform into the ostrich.

You can drop on to the holes and climb up.

so far I think the game is good. Its fun and somewhat addictive but the camera is really bad.

Played a few hours last night and it's exactly what I wanted and more.

The first platformer Nintendo hooked me on since Mario 64 and Rare with Banjo Kazooie.

Superb.

This is the first Switch 2 game I've bought and it's pretty ugly looking lol. The low resolution mixed with the ugly aesthetics (I've thought the art design was horrible since the first trailer), just not doing it for me. I'm not having a problem with the framerate.

Impressions after 3 hours: The more important thing is the gameplay and I'm also finding that to be a bit "ok", nothing special. I'm always a fan of destructible envelopments so I like that part, but I started to realize pretty quickly to not really explore in the dirt too much. It's overall pointless. The game is too easy too. There's a flood of one hit kill cannon fodder and then you just do some puzzles. Am I having fun? Yeah, it's fine if you like Nintendo style games. But I had to check the difficulty to see if I was playing on assist mode by accident.

The entire loop is similar to the Mario games, which Odyssey is a 10/10 for me and why I bought this. But it feels way too bland to compete with the Mario game, so far. I'll trash my own review if I beat it and it gets a lot better. There's nothing really wrong with it, but its just a very gimmicky game.

I also don't understand at all why DK is super excited about banana gems with a hungry face. Is he eating them for nutritional value or is he a moron that thinks he's eating real bananas?

3.5/5 for me

Metroid Prime 4 is gonna have to set the world on fire to dethrone this as my favorite year 1 Switch 2 game.

Still got way more to play to make a final opinion but so far its maybe dethroning Expedition 33 as my GOTY, maybe

Funny enough, I had this problem and I have a full blown theater system in my living room. When Pauline started singing, the audio was much quieter for music. The cutscene I couldn't make out a single thing she was singing because of how drastically quiet it got.
