Doom (2016) PC performance thread

Yeah I'm getting the random crashes too. No warnings. No popups. Just back to desktop and it's closed. So strange. Wonder what's causing it for people.

I've played for a handful of hours and haven't seen any crashes.

Are drivers up to date? Stable overclocks? Maybe I'm just lucky?

I also had a random ctd near the end of my first playthrough (
while on the train into VEGA core
), and again today on my second playthrough, but this time during the first level. Runs great otherwise though.

I'm on windows 10 with the latest nvidia drivers, and my 980ti isn't overclocked. I've crashed about 4 times now. Exactly like everyone else. One second I'm in the game, then I'm staring at my desktop wondering what the hell just happened. Nothing crazy going on when it's crashed either which makes it weirder.

My brother also has the problem. Totally different system. Windows 7, amd 7950 or 7970 (can't remember which).

Also have two friends with 970's on the latest drivers having the problem.

So yeah, no idea what's going on. Was really hoping that and the dev mode bug thing would be addressed by now.

I'm on my second playthrough (this time on nightmare) and so far I had three random crashes to desktop (14 hours playtime).

970
16gb ram
I5 6600k

I have the same problem with this game that I had with wolfenstein new order. Plying on high 60fps everything is smooth for an hour than suddenly I experience massive framerate drops and it gets progressively worst between 1-15fps. Lowering the settings to low makes no difference. I have to restart my pc to get back to to 60fps and it last for another hour before it starts to happen again. I have no clue why this is happening But does not happen with any other games only new order and doom.

I've had the game just turn itself off three times since launch. I suppose it's crashing but it's crazy how I got absolutely no warning. The game's there one second, gone the next. No errors, no processes stuck in Not Responding, nothing.

Titan X, latest WHQL drivers.

Yep, I was getting random CTDs too, especially in the last 2 levels.

One thing that helped me was turning Virtual Texturing Cache Size down from Nightmare to Ultra. The CTDs still happened but not as often.

I'm waiting until I get my 1080 and new drivers or game patches before I do my second playthrough.

Just in case somebody cares:

Newest Benchmarks (with proper AMD drivers) in 1080p.

The 970 still manages to keep up with the Fury X. Ouch.

Good thing AMD peeps are getting Vulkan soonish.

Have you checked your ram when this happens? I'm wondering if you have a memory leak somewhere somehow. That's my first thought when I heard that it gets worse over time and only after an hour or so.
Try again, play the game for 5 min then check your ram to see where it is at. Once it slows down, alt tab out of the game (dont close it) and then see if your ram usage is significantly different than before.

I used to have that problem and it was the gpu fan not working properly, everytime the gpu reached high temps the fps went down to 15. Not saying this is what you have tho, but check your temps.

Heh, it's definetley the time for me to upgrade from 270x to something better this summer. Even 280x is slaying it. Vram seems to be the big bottleneck.

I checked my ram when I encountered this problem with New order I did not notice anything unusual.

Maybe I first had this problem when upgrade my gpu to 970. Maybe it is a faulty card but I never had this problem with any other game. The last game I spent a long time with was dark souls 3 and never had any issues.

Everything on Ultra, disabled motion blur and CA.
I hit 40-70fps at 1440p on a 250kk@4ghz, R9 390, 16Gb.

I don't feel like dropping to 1080p to get a locked 60 but I love my some vsync... hmmm...

You could use the ingame scaling to get it to the exact point where you do not drop frames anymore (which is somewhere between 1080p @ 1440p probably anyway). The scaling results are pretty impressive IMO.
is there anyway to disable camera motion blur without also disabling OBMB?

its highly unlikely i know. camera motion blur just sucks if playing at higher fps

These are the only options I could find related to DOF or Motion blur really
g_autoMotionBlurOnGK turn on motion blur during glory kills
g_autoDOFOnGKAuto Enables Auto DOF for GloryKills
g_autoDOFOnGK_NearAuto DOF for GloryKills - Near Plane
g_autoDOFOnGK_FarAuto DOF for GloryKills- Far Plane
g_autoDOFOnGK_FocusAuto DOF for GloryKills - Focus Plane
g_autoDOFOnGK_FadeoutTime DOF for GloryKills - Fadeout Time

r_motionblur
r_hdrShutterSpeed

I was expecting dips and compromise on settings to get a smooth fps but it seems to run fine at max. Game seems very optimized (which seems to be a similar thing for the console versions).

Though, seems that some information in the dossier doesn't have their scroll bar fully intact but if you press the arrow keys to move a bit around the menu, the scroll bar will function again.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was a memory leak. I've seen the game reporting up to 7GB RAM usage before, which I can only imagine would cause a ton of machines problems as most are running 8GBs.

Glad I came into this thread. I had the same exact problem with Wolfenstien. I had to reinstall the game multiple times and it would work well for a while then eventually the performance would go to shit. Now I'm scared to get Doom. Fuck

I have had crashes the first 2 days and then it stopped.

BUT...it has happened a couple of times that my frame rates would become a slideshow after I finished a rune trial or reloading after death. Solution was to exit the game and launch it again. Anyone else?

I tried yesterday
gtx980
i5 4670k 4.0
12 gb ram

runs great in ultra 60 fps, the problem i have was some animations or moments was not running at 60fps, but rivatunner tells 60 fps, so i changed to bordeless and no more cut animations or laggy moments.

5820k/980Ti/16GB GDDR5 here. Getting 100~120+FPS on Ultra 1440p with GSync.

Had one crash last night though, one second I was playing, next second I was back at my desktop. Hopefully it's not a recurring issue.

Runs pretty nice on my Lenovo Y700 w/ GTX 960M 4GB. Had to set everything to medium then I turned AA down to FXAA, set shadows and lighting to high, then changed the resolution scaling to 80% and now it runs mostly 60fps except where there's smoke it'll dip down to 40's. Only thing that's wierd though is during multiplayer I play with my mouse/kb and it seems to be sorta jerky, like not in framerate but there's a lot of wierd like random and quick jerks that don't seem smooth as they should be. I dunno hard to explain its' wierd.

I for the life of me can't figure out what is locking my game to 60fps, regardless of what settings I use it just doesn't want to go higher.
4690k/980ti/16gb on a 3440*1440 gsync monitor. V-sync in game is off and it isn't being forced via the Nvidia control panel either

Interesting, 2 days ago was my first time playing and my framerate was also locked at 60 for some reason. Last night I played and although I changed nothing, I was at 100-120+FPS. My specs are similar to yours ( I listed a few posts up).

I've experienced a couple of crashes myself. Last night I was playing and about an hour or so in it crashed right to my desktop. Last weekend it crashed when I was in SnapMap. Hopefully this is fixed or, at least, remains infrequent.

So, after playing 20 hours of flawless 1080p60 performance this is happening:

hpn3c6f.jpg

In game settings:

Ultra with "Virtual Page Texturing on High"

Specs:

i5 2500K @4.5GHz
780 OC'd to 1071mhz
16GB RAM
128GB Crucial SSD

I already checked the game files on Steam, also tried other levels and games, everything worked fine.

Halp!

4770k, 780 Ti - High details, 100 fov, motion blur turned off, gsync. Runs at 58 - 90 fps @ 1080p, very happy with its performance.

hmm reading about the vram thing, I have a 760 gtx 2gig, am I screwed and should just buy a ps4 (or buy a new gpu) or would I still be able to run this with the same settings at 1080/60fps (as in the texture compression/texture settings are good enough to lower the vram usage)?

How is the 21:9 support?

Fantastic, works straight out of the gate, you just need to set the aspect ratio first and then the resolution choices will come up.

I7 5390K @ 4.2GHz and a Titan X, currently playing it at 3440x1440 on Ultra settings with the additional Extreme options, and it's currently averaging around 60 FPS with minor dips.

I can't really seem to get this game to run at a steady 60fps with a gtx 780 with the custom settings it started me with. Nothing is really all that high.

I really haven't updated my drivers in a while, should I do that?

My 680 only has 2GB and does okay. You can see more texture pop-in than I think you would on a bigger card, since it's having to stream the textures in from the hard drive instead of the VRAM, but that's the only thing I've noticed that seems to be directly memory-related.

980ti with a slight OC
4790k@ 5ghz
16gb RAM
3440x1440 resolution, everything maxed out except AA

Getting 70ish fps mostly everywhere. Sometimes gets down in the 50s. Newest nVidia drivers. Looks gooooood.

Definetly update your drivers, you should get a boost of at least 10%

Apparently my game doesn't like in-game cut-scene recordings/live feeds as no audio come out of them. =/

NVM: http://help.bethesda.net/app/answer...-npc-voices-but-all-other-audio-is-fine.-why?

Apparently they still have not fixed the freeze company logos though on a 3rd application opening, it mostly went through them but end up going to the loading screen waiting to start the main menu so maybe that's why this has been a problem that was never fixed since the MP Alpha.

ran the game at 1440p from beginning to end on a 980ti with a i7-6700k at 90fps. only experienced crashes towards the end., annoying but damn did this game run great

Is there a way to disable weapon aim slowdown? By that I mean that some weapons will have a slower turn rate in secondary fire mode. Also, the plasma rifle seems to have a slower turn rate while firing. It's really annoying.

Does anyhave have a fix for random desktop-crashes? Thinking of putting the game down to wait for a patch if it happens again. :(

I can get 50-60 fps in 4k at the moment and gsync sorts the drops out and it feels great in the parts I have played. I'm sure there will be areas later in the game that will push it more, but for now it's perfectly playable. Really well optimised.

I hope there is a patch coming to sort out the ctd's though.

I was getting 60 fps with drops to 40 fps at the worst case but after taking a couple days break from the game I'm now getting 30 fps with drops to 20 fps. I haven't changed anything with the game or my computer. Using a 970gtx and 5820K on Ultra settings.

I don't understand what could have happened to cause this. Maybe one of the Ultra settings wasn't getting applied and now it magically got applied? Was there an update to the game that changed something?

Edit: Restarting my PC fixed the problem. I'm now getting 55-70 fps in the same spot I was getting 20-30 fps. I noticed before restarting that staring at a wall did not improve framerate past 30 fps (now staring at a wall takes me to 100+ fps) and I was getting 50-55 fps in the menu.
