Doom (2016) PC performance thread

Hey I just started the game and messed around with video and advanced. But when I try to start the game I get this message. any ideas?

And which setting have the most impact on performance? I am getting odd spikes in fps.

edit: getting the screenshot to show up.

dev mode?

in my doom game?

YES

Can you enable vulkan in console? :D

To be honest, I have no idea why that is showing up. I did noting besides mess around with the video settings. In addition, when I downloaded the game using family share with a friend, I already had a save file on when I first started the game.

so my 290 will not be much better than a PS4? I only have an i5-4590 nevermind an i7-5960X. i would need to lower settings to medium to hopefully achieve a solid 60fps at 1080p?

Dropping shadows to medium or even low should be all that's necessary. Your CPU won't be a problem at all.

AWWW YISSS IT WORKS!
I have a Medion Erazer laptop with these specs:

Intel i5 M460
nVidia GeForce GTX 460M
8GB RAM

And it runs at a solid (and, for me, playable) 20-30 fps with most settings set to Medium or Low and only DoF AA turned off. It might not be the perfect 60 most people need, but I'm just happy that my old thing can still play this game in a playable state.

This is a post of a happy man with low expectations.

EDIT: Changed some settings and now I get everything between 30 to 60+ fps. Niiiiiiccccceeeee!

Does the game need to be restarted when alterations are made to the in-game vsync as it doesn't seem to work for me; the framerate remains unlocked. I tend to have adaptive vsync set globally within the control panel but was just messing around to see if there was any difference with the in-game vsync.

Hm, it'd be a shame if the GTX 670 can no longer exceed PS4 performance at the same settings (taking the VRAM limitations into consideration)

Wonder if Vulkan brings it over the top.

I will be trying the game out on our secondary gaming PC that has a 670. It will be interesting to see what settings need to be altered so that 60fps is manageable.

So I need some help guys, this probably belongs in a different thread but I just installed the new drivers for DOOM and about halfway through the express installation the screen cuts to black and has been flashing non-stop. I have no experience with video drivers, so how to I fix this? I have a GTX 760 btw.

Please post back asap

I used DSR for it and it was around 50s mostly everything on Ultra

How you guys can play at a flactuating frame rate is beyond me (without Gsync). It's not directed at you, but I read many posts of people that play with a flactuating frame rate.

It's either locked 30 or 60fps for me.

Setting FPS to 61 via Riva Tuner solved the terrible stuttering the game was having even @60FPS.
Game works smooth when it hits 60~61 and tearing started to get noticeable with V-Sync off.

Nah I don't play on 1440, I just tried it out. Locked 60fps Ultra at 1080 for me all the way. Framerate is priority for me.

6700k
16 GB DDR4-3200
980ti

Getting about 100 FPS average at 1440p on ultra with shadows at nightmare. Game is running like a dream so far.

AMD 8320 @ 4GHz
16GB ram
760 GTX SLI (obviously in single card mode)
Edit: Should mention I'm running an ultrawide at 2560x1080.

All setting on high except particles and reflections, those are on medium. Resolution scale set to 90 and AA set to TAA.

Getting 40-60 FPS with drops to 30 during major fights. Can't wait for SLI support.

I found a post on the steam discussions that offered a fix for those running 7xx series cards who experience unexplainable FPS drops in areas with fog, steam, etc. This usually happens after a death or level change or graphics setting changes. I tried it and it worked for me, but your experience may vary. Find the doom cache folder located under c:/users/username/appdata/local/idsoftware/ and delete the DOOM folder. Restart the game and those drops should stop. It appears to be a temporary fix as the drops can come back.

PC or PS4?

With a 4Gb 770 go PC. You'll be able to run better settings than PS4 without running into the memory limitations that seem to cripple 2Gb cards. Your CPU will be fine too.

This is also a fast-paced, twitchy game tailor-made for kb/m.

What settings is PS4 using? I know it's using up to 1080p so that's hard to compare with since you can't set a dynamically scaling resolution on PC. But have the settings been fully compared or revealed officially?

Could have sworn DF said medium across the board with TXAA. I could be wrong.

Anyone know a way round the 5gb vram message when selecting nightmare settings?

Given that my nano is only using a max of 2.5gig at ultra I'm pretty sure it would cope.

Edit

Nevermind I found the launch command

"+menu_advanced_AllowAllSettings 1"

I'm actually amazed I can even play this at 1080p on my 570 with an i5 2500k@4.4ghz. Have been getting around 30fps in the first sections of the game.

1080s can't launch soon enough...

The 2500K is a beast, I'm only upgrading my 780 with a 1070 and probably try to OC the CPU the closest to 5GHz.

Btw, for those of you who didn't know, you can change your default steam cover for this game and put on the alternate version. Right click it in your steam library and click "set custom image" and upload this:
