DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods – Part Two | Official Teaser

Discuss? Hmm...

I can't believe this teaser leaked again, I can't believe we're getting the "full trailer" in days as opposed to next month like the previous DLC.

Unless... This is a teaser of the "teaser full trailer"... LOL

Also, will fap, do want, put it in my veins, etc.

Not gonna wach as I have yet to play Part 1. Do we have a date for this?

Started to play Ancient Gods Part 1 as I bought the deluxe version ages ago and mean't to get round to playing it.

Not even going to bother. Ancient Gods is everything that is shit about Doom Eternal ramped up to the extreme. Every enemy having a weakness is one thing, but when the game throws every enemy type under the sun at you in a small arena when all the fucking demons require a different tactic makes it an absolute mess. Can't dodge because you get stuck on something or crowded by demons who just tear you a new asshole while even while you're staring at a weapon wheel full of weapons in red because you're out of ammo anyway. It would be a whole lot more enjoyable if the game didn't force you to play like a meth addict constantly hot swapping weapons and weapon mods between using abilities to regain armour and ammo constantly. It's like the devs figured those few lunatics out there who actually have ADD and pound away at a dozen different keys at once should be the baseline for how to play the game.

Doom 2016 is one of my favourite shooters; Doom Eternal was one of my biggest disappointments in how it completely broke every approach to the game there is outside of how strictly they want you to play the game and god knows how it's suppose to be possible on a controller. Ancient Gods quadrupled down on it and I honestly don't know if I could be fucked to finish it even though I love where the story was going.

Definitely giving this one a huge miss.

are the rumors of them nerfing the difficulty of the first DLC true?...I hope not...that's one of the best things about the game- its brutal difficulty

Meh.

Looks like some Warhammer/Starcraft thing.
It can be whatever you want it to be. But it's a lot of the stuff we've seen in Eternal. Just on a grander scale. But it makes sense considering what's at stake.

I'm sure it will be fun but the DLC for Eternal does not feel like Doom.
Of course it will! Felt like DOOM to me, loved part 1. 🤷‍♂️

we are in endgame now bois .
Nah, we in the He-man universe fam.

Finished Doom Eternal campaign on One X with a controller, finished the campaign again on Pro with a controller and finished Ancient Gods DLC Part 1 on PS5 with a controller. Whilst Ancient Gods DLC was insanely difficult for me, I never once thought the controller hindered my experience or thought that it was a mess.. Eternal is far superior to 2016 and this sounds like a 'you' problem.

Doom 2016 was so easy it wasn't funny.. You could complete the campaign with just one weapon.. Whilst the game was still fun, it needed to evolve and have more of a challenge.

How anyone can think 2016 was better than Eternal is beyond me.

Completely agree, Eternal added some much needed depth and challenge. Played Eternal and Part 1 both with a controller with zero issues, enjoyed the hell out of it.

What were your thoughts on the base game as far as FLAWS were concerned? For example, Doom Eternal was my favorite game of 2020 but it had horrible bosses and some really janky, unfun enemies (marauders). Since I've heard the first DLC had more horrible bosses and more marauders, I thought I'd skip it.

And did you enjoy the first DLC?

I specifically read that the final Slayer Gate in the 1st DLC would be slightly less difficult...
Unlrss it came from Hugo's mouth I wouldn't believe it. He's been very adamant about not only challenge but pushing the player to the point of frustration to get them to think differently.

I don't see a lot of reason for that to change on their finale of their work for the past 7 plus years.

Yes!

I 100% agree with this sentiment, but at the time I couldn't put my finger on what it was that annoyed me. I very nearly rage quit at the first marauder fight because it was just so irritating.

Honestly in terms of flaws I thought some of the level flow and overall design was weird. It didn't feel natural and felt forced at moments. If that makes any sense. At first I didn't enjoy the platforming aspects, but by the end of it, it didn't bother me anymore. That being said, I'm not married to them by any means. They could remove them and I would've been fine, haha.

I also thought the game felt pretty light in the content department, though the campaign felt pretty replayable. Not to mention they did events that made me play through it more to get the unlocks for a good while. But 2016 felt STACKED, which was awesome! A campaign, snap map, and multiplayer. I was so happy cause it felt like the first time we had a new AAA FPS come with a ton of content. Something I felt like we hadn't seen in a long while. Especially with that type of FPS. I thought Eternal would've had the same amount if not more, but it didn't.

I still wish the game had standard multiplayer. What was in 2016 was entertaining and fine, but it could've been SO much better, and with id doing it in-house, I thought that's what we were gonna get. But instead, we got Battlegrounds, which I appreciate them trying something "new", but that's not what a lot of the fans wanted. Including myself.

It's just wild to me that DOOM is what built the foundation for FPS competitive multiplayer and co-op. But we haven't seen a new DOOM game do that yet, and very well across the board.

Eternal was one of my favorite games last year, I mean, I'm a huge DOOM/id fan, so it shouldn't be a surprise.

I honestly don't mind Marauders at all. In fact, I appreciate them at times because they crank the tension up a bit. But ever since I got down the weapon combo to drop them faster, they're not really a threat anymore.

I absolutely loved the first DLC, it was Eternal cranked to 11. The Marauders weren't an issue for me. For me, the biggest issue were the Spirits. It's not enough to make me hate it by any means, but really, fuck them so much, lmao.

Excuse any of this if it sounds rambly, I woke up not long ago. 👀

Snapmap levels were fun and some pretty innovative and even the old school multiplayer was way better than whats in Eternal.

There's still one thing that Im lowkey not impressed about, which mostly is ancient gods part 1 footage in Doom Eternal launch trailer. Still tho I'm so fucking ready for this, I hope ID is NOT going to do something about other old ips but go nuts with something brand new for them

Nah the setting is what I mean. Of course the gameplay does. I'm just not feeling the different environments. To me they don't feel like Doom.
I gotcha, I get that.

To me, they always did. At least to a certain degree. I say that because in DOOM 1/2 there were changes in sky boxes, environments, etc. that I can't help but assume would've been much more grandiose if the tech existed at the time. Even though the locations themselves didn't change much. I'm not saying there'd be platforming or anything like that, lol. I just think that there is certainly a possibility that we could've seen environments that stood out a lot more across the board.

2016 and Eternal just brought about more lore, which is something we never really had in the universe. So it felt apparent that we would see more in the universe than just Hell, Mars, Earth, etc. I know a lot of people don't care about the lore, and that's fine. I just thought it was cool to see creative things be done with the IP to the point where it all tied together.

Clearly there are people that weren't a fan of seeing so many different and "out there" environments, especially in a DOOM game. But I was fine with it, excited even. Primarily to be getting DOOM lore, no matter how ridiculous it may seem.

Its a tough thing because you really can only do so much with Mars and Hell. More environments is never a bad thing but they gotta make it fit and I think they did for the most part theme wise. Design wise I still think 2016 had the better core design.

I definitely agree.

Not really a fan of the D&D stuff and certain additional elements but whatever, looks like more fun and I'll be grabbing it for sure.

The setting diversity is one of the many many cool things about Eternal, Hell on Earth, Artic Cultist base, a little bit of Mars, Heavenly alien planet, Hell city, Gothic Space station, Ruins in a forest, etc. Its simply amazing 👌

Have they said anything about the timing on the PS5/Series X upgrade? I feel like this DLC would have been the perfect time to drop it. Kind of disappointing tbh.

Exactly....

I thought that they would announce the next gen update with this trailer
This is also what I was really waiting for.

Edit. But the trailer was awesome and I have no idea what is happening storywise in it because I haven't played the first part of the DLC.

Doom Eternal was easily the best shooter I've played in a long time when it was released, so nextgen update or no I'm going to have to buy the DLC soon.

I started off on the wrong foot with Eternal as well, just didn't enjoy how 'gamey' it had become and how different it felt compared to the previous game. I mean I loved DOOM 2016 but am now going through Eternal for the 2nd time on Extra Lives mode (Ultra-Violence) to prepare for an Ultra-Nightmare run (followed by the Ancient Gods dlc after) and am having such a good time with it now. Going so far as to say I prefer it over DOOM 2016, not because the previous game is bad or anything but simply because Eternal expands and improves upon almost every aspect of that title and then some. I guess I didn't fully appreciate it the first time around for what it was: a return to proper old-school DOOM.

The only thing I despise about Eternal is its HUD and menu design. It's positively atrocious and hidious looking! When I first looked at the arsenal menu my mouth was agape with what how much of a mess it was. Other then that though... it's fantastic hah.

I'm pretty sure the plan was to get the DLC out and done before putting out the next-gen upgrade. It'd make sense for them to rerelease Eternal for next-gen with the the base game + DLC. Along with a potential upgrade for previous owners.

Could be the route they're going, who knows. I'm sure we'll find out about the upgrade soonly.

So it was too difficult for you, right?

Hope they will reboot Quake the next. All the signs point to that. Imagine Quake 3 Arena with all those Xbox characters from Gears, Fallout, Doom, Halo etc.
