DOOM |OT| Rip and tear, until it's done

How are people feeling about the later parts of the game?

There's a certain part in
The Titan Realm
which is a straight up gauntlet. Just combat arena after combat arena for over an hour. Definitely the weakest part of the game so far, even though the combat is fun.

I loved that shit.

The more Doom combat the better as far as I'm concerned. I think I might sorta be in the minority there though, I've never been too into exploration which is kinda funny considering the Souls series is one of my absolute favorites.

I can see how it can kinda wear on people though. You def gotta pace things for people to get a mental breather here and there.

I can't seem to find it anywhere on youtube.

Mick Gordon pls save me.

I did not at first but they're kind of growing on me; after enough play I think you disassociate the design from the old one and they become their own thing.

The mancubus is my least favorite design I think, maybe the same thing will happen with them but I miss the low gurgling sounds of the original and the more flesh less cybernetic aesthetic.

It would have been so amazing if they used the old sound effects. The enemies sound so generic in this game :(
I love the secrets and the retro levels (Yeah I just found one, lol) but the enemy design is my only criticism so far

I'm up to the third mission and.. wtf these levels are actually pretty non-linear. What the fuck. Eating crow so hard over here.

So I think DOOM is better than Wolfenstein The New Order.

Both games are great but DOOM has a lot more to offer and the campaign seems a bit more fleshed out because Wolfenstein kinda started off slow but then picked up the pace about an hour later. This was not the case with DOOM as the game starts fast and never slowed down at all.

I fucked around a bit with the snapmap tutorials, so far I am really really loving how this all works, reminds me a lot of forge mixed with the editors of some of my favorite indie games(Gunpoint, Broforce, Doorkickers, ARMA 3) but simplified and expanded in other ways. It was really great, I even played someones version of E1M2 from DOOM 2.

God fucking damn. This is the Fury Road of shooters. Rip and tear!

Can anyone... anyone tell me where / how to bind the codex key. I have every key in the configuration menu bound already yet still when the codex prompt comes up it says "none."

I do not know how to access the weapons upgrade menu or anything. The prompt says to press tab but all this shows is the mission objective.

Wolfenstein starts out almost like Call of Duty, with the assault on Deathshead's fortress and all. Not really that slow. Obviously slow compared to DOOM, but they're very different games in structure.

I couldn't really say one is better than the other, only that I prefer one over the other. They're both so excellent, but so different.

One of my favorite things about The New Order was what they did with BJ as a character, but the same thing wouldn't work here with Doomguy. I don't want to see Doomguy sex scenes. Different priorities, similar excellence in execution in both concepts.

So has anyone beat it on Ultra Nightmare yet? I remember reading about how the devs didn't beat it - at least a while back. I imagine someone has already achieved it.

Yep, that's pretty much what I got from both games. Though I do think Doom is the better game they're both great in many ways.

Why did I spend all my money without even thinking that this would turn out so well? Now I'm all hyped about playing it and I won't be able to unless I wait for some income or sell something I already own.

Goddammit, Id. Why'd you have to go and make a good game like this?

Maybe he's mistaking it for The Old Blood, which was a slow and awful start imo.

I just bought this, hankering for some crazy fps action and I need to warm up my m&kb skills before the Overwatch release. Sounds like Ultra-Violence is a good difficulty to play on? Looking for something not easy but not very hard.

Um not really sure. I've seen weapons from both the campaign and multiplayer in SnapMap creations.

Kinda sorta on the second point? lol I can only say based on levels I've played that other people have created but I played on a big map that was similar to a campaign level requiring colored key cards to progress and I've played a map where you could teleport from one map and area to another.

Tried Snapmap, at least the maps I've tried had a two weapon limit, you can't carry all the weapons like in the campaign, sadly.

Rented the game from Redbox. Whomever prepped this copy for the kiosk straight shit on the disk. Can barely be read even after trying to clean it up and won't install. Really wanted to try this game

Also I don't see how the AI is dumb. These guys hunt you down.

I don't think magically knowing where you are at all times and guided missile style careening towards you is terribly smart.

Yeah, you can only carry two weapons and while there are definitely campaign variants of weapons available in Snapmap by no means do you have access to the full SP arsenal.

I'm more entertained by the AI in this game then most recent shooters that don't do much moving but pop out of cover and move between cover sometimes.
Also I don't think it's weird that they know where you are when you're a big marine shooting all kinds of weapons in big open areas, I'm guessing a Space Marine stands out in an environment like Hell.

That happened me a few weeks ago with The Division. my PS4 could barely read the disk.

You fuckers.

I was going to wait.

I wasn't even paying attention when it launched.

But... ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Bought. I hate each and every one of you.

And another wayward soul joins the fold.

Welcome brother.

Once you have partaken it will become your mission to spread the Gospel of Doom to others.

I'd be in the dick
Can't stop thinking about this game. The encounters in Hell are so intense and really start encouraging regular weapon switching.

Game also controls like a dream on a controller. Some of the best FPS controls in a long time.

They can see you through floors, doors, walls, ceilings and any other obstacle you might think of. They always know where you are.

Yeah I was just starting to think, "the shotgun and rocket launcher seem to be all I need" until I got to hell and had to use most of my weapons.

This game is so great.

I just got it and had to make a yt vid of the first few minutes of my experience.

Can already tell this shit is hype, one thing I will do is up the difficulty though, feels too easy right now.

Music as I knew it would be is insane!

Ahh, haven't had a situation where that's annoyed me, and from what I can tell it's this way in a lot of shooters.

Nice to play an old school style shooter, going in dark like I have I'm also surprised and very pleased with the visuals. Tasty

I would argue all-knowing AI is smart, lol

Seriously, AI that knows where you are is well suited for Doom. Now, if it were a bit more aggressive on lower difficulties so that i don't need to hunt them... (Trying to complete all challenges etc.)
