Ahhh, good ol' Naix, my first hero I ever played in DotA-Allstars :3

He can be absurdly powerful if farmed. I remember old DotA games where he literally could not be killed 5v1, absolutely unstoppable: Satanic, Basher, Basher (pre-Basher stacking nerf) Boots of Travel, Heart of Tarrasque, Black King Bar. Goodnight.

I'm pretty sure noone is killable if you let them farm that much.......

The point is everyone else was also farmed and max level, but he still would decimate. His natural life steal stacked on top of a Satanic along with bashing+slowing attack makes him especially unstoppable compared to most other equally-farmed heroes. If he touched you once, you were done.

Does Lifestealer work better in the lane or jungle?

From what I've seen Na'ix can deal some good damage against the heavy tanks in a one on one mid situation(looking at you Pudge) and he can do so quite early. So long as you level him right which many people fail to do, as they think feast is just a basic lifesteal.

Jungling Na'ix has always been strong, what's even more awesome is he can take over the other team's jungle with little consequence and destroy their farm(saw both a jungling Axe and Furion get absolutely owned like this) and with rage and open wounds he's borderline impossible to chase.

Overall, I'd give the edge to laning because that slow is so strong early on (and even later), and should net you many early kills. He can be very aggressive and his abilities grant him reprieves for doing so.

bullshit this model fits better

now he's a nasty voodoo dude instead of a slightly friendly looking voodoo dude

I love the old model but this one looks pretty good as well, need some more time with him before I say which is better.

I guess bright purple doesn't fit with the dire, they are to hardcore for that.

Jungling Na'ix has always been strong.

Tried him again but with different items to start and did much better, some guide I read said to go double Stout when Stout and Blade was much better. Seemed pretty strong and I'll need to give him a go later.

Oh didn't see they'd fix the hero stats, hopefully they'll start to add KDR, GPM, XPM and maybe some other stats.

I vastly prefer N'aix in the jungle to the lane unless you have a good trilane or jungle support. He's a fantastic hero, but he's still melee and he'll get thwomped out of lane by dual stunners or annoying pokers like Windrunner. If he can farm up a fast Helm of Iron Will he'll do fine though.

He also does great against Antimage. My clan loved to pick Doom solo mid and N'aix in the jungle to counter Antimage pickers.

Just played a fun game where I went to gank with Naix and he would decrep them pretty much as soon as I slowed, and the enemy just walks away. Also wish Diffusal worked like Nullfire and you get infinite charges when you upgrade it.

Okay so my LoL crew have all been ending each night after we get our daily LoL win with a DOTA 2 practice match. I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but the one universal thing either we all aren't use to or just think is crappy is the UI in general. The bottom UI bar just seems rather big, and takes up a lot more real estate than needed. I dislike how the character portraits up top of your team don't display their levels so I can see that at quick glance. The shop UI is pretty much universally despised. We do like the little circles bellow the spells to show you what level your abilities are at though. It also doesn't help that a lot of tabs and stuff in the menus and pregame are fully filled in yet giving you say practice tips or hero info.

Btw is there a way to invite people into practice matches other than just telling them the password, and having them filter search? That's the only way we've figure out how to do it so far. I know I can right click names and invite to party just in the lobby, but it seems that just gives us party chat and such. I can't figure out how to say que us all up for something as the party leader.

Holy shit, on the talk of hats in spectator chat someone suggested a tramps top hat for lifestealer and a fez for Sand King.

GOD DAMN. That needs to be done.

I would love to know this too (for the second part). Some of the party and invitation stuff isn't very clear right now.

Also with your other complaints, it is a beta, things can and will be changed. I also don't like how the shop is structured and I think it could be 10x better. I will say the recommended items are usually pretty good. You're ui complaints could be negated when its finished. If it's like tf2 there are many ui mods you can run that change it (usually make stuff alot more minimal) and I'd be amazed if some of those aren't made pretty soon after it is released. I will personally be upset if there isn't a way eventually to get the awesome placeholder pictures back lol. http://www.dota2.cyborgmatt.com/spellicons/

Just getting my feet wet, enjoying the beta but the sound design (especially the voice work) stands out as being all over the place and pretty distracting. Doesn't really mesh with the classy art style and UI they are going for. If they end up selling announcer packs, I'll be first in line to buy one.

Spectator mode is pretty amazing, though. Perfect for someone like me coming from LoL with little familiarity with DOTA heroes, seeing them perform in game is a great way to learn.

One of the better features they added was adding, and being able to add, item aliases so you can find Black King Bar just by searching for bkb. You can edit the file (dota2/dota/scripts/npc/items.tvt) to include the HoN names if you wanted, just add

"ItemAliases" "name; name"

to an entry.

Also didn't notice this until someone posted on Reddit:

ESnio.jpg

Yes, I did notice the Sticky buy before, I switch between having Wards and TP scrolls there. Buying all the wards just before death as a support is pretty useful.

Also, I not only know about the ItemAliases, I have already done it. Just a few small things, I made the Healing Salve and Clarity both show up under pot, and the Clarity show up on Mana.

Healing Salve is oddly enough called Flask in the Items.txt file, took me a while to find.

Announcer packs and courier avatars are my favorite cosmetics in HoN, HoN doesn't nearly have enough though. Though if Valve goes the same route as they did with TF2...omg

I'd sell my soul for cross-valve game announcer packs in dota 2... I want Heavy to announce my first blood.

They seem like the type of things that will clash with the puristic style of the game though. I'm not sure how their professional players will respond to such things if they do add them.

Probably just leave the competitive games in Vanilla mode, and outside of that do w/e

Got a pass!!! So awesome, I tried it last night. I was so lost since I haven't played a moba game in a while and what do you know, we lost. Ha ha. Practice time

They already had different courier skins in DotA, from what I've seen most pros don't mind the cosmetic stuff but they want the ability to disable them.

I have my doubts about announcer packs, but I think the custom Courier will be in the game (Mainly since there already are some in burred in the files)

Is there some sort of spreadsheet I can print with perfect item builds for every hero ?

I recall item builds to be the most annoying thing for me to learn in old DOTA and HoN.

There is definitely something rotten with the current set up. Haven't had a game once complete with the 5v5.

They need a surrender.

On the good side, the abandonment thing works out pretty well too. Someone leaves and after five minutes people can leave with no punishment.

Oh hey, Valve ruined Witch Doctor. Looks like I'm buying his old skin whenever it comes out.

I dunno. He looks pretty boss now. I didn't like the portrait when they changed that last patch, but now that I see the new model... He looks like a goddamn witch doctor. I like!

"DOTA_TutorialTitle_Train_Pudge" "Pudge Training"
"DOTA_TutorialBody_Train_Pudge" "Learn to play Pudge, dawg. Kill some bots in the bottom lane."

DAWG

I love, love, love the idea of having hero-specific tutorials. They are doing right by this game. Go Valve!

The item builds on the sidebar are 90% correct, and there are no 'perfect' item builds, you need to be able to adapt.

True, but it doesn't stop the hat madness in competitive TF2... although this community is certainly different.

That was my exact thought process. Portrait: eww why his mouf ugly. Ingame model: Oh man he actually looks pretty cool.

I think all it was with the portrait was the facial expression made it look bad.

Say that to Void's face.

Plus if you read the bios, some of the people on the Radiant side are pretty nasty or suspect. So its not like Valve is totally playing to the light is good, dark is bad thing. Witch Doctor being a nice voodoo guy is cool.

What voice work is suspect other than the classic announcer?

Just got a Key a few days ago and have been slowly getting back into it. I loved War3 DOTA and probably played it for 10000 hours back in high school. I've gotten in 4 games so far (wish I could play more but I usually play at 1 am pacific and there are no gaffers on at that time and it takes forever to find a game), lost 3 won 1. I've been randoming lately to just try and get a feel for it again. I know a lot of my suckiness has to do with my lack of practice and that ease of use will come with time but that being said, I do have a few gripes with the overall game.

The first is that there is no attack move or follow attack as there was in the War3 DOTA. For example I was playing beast master and I wanted my boar to keep attacking the lane creeps while I took down some creep in the jungle. It wouldn't do it. I had to manually select each creep I wanted it to attack or put it in the general location. But once that first wave was cleared it would stay there since Attack Move isn't possible. The other thing I wish they added in was Follow Attack where I can set my pet to follow me and it will start attacking if I attack and then stop once I stop. This was a pretty useful feature.

Second issue is with the overall pointer. Maybe I haven't gotten used to it yet but I feel like when I click on something, I can't really tell if I've selected it. I had a really hard time selected my bird as beast master. The other thing I wish happened was that the mouse would change shape with a spell or move is selected. For example, in War3 DOTA hitting "A" would change the mouse icon from a pointer to a sword with a red cross. Just makes things easier to distinguish.

Third: The shop layout. Maybe I'm just wanting nostalgia from the old DOTA but I really wish it was separated out into sections instead of tabs on one dude. Being able to access the shop from battle and not having to scroll back like before is quite nice though.

Forth: This may be just me but I feel like the entire game is zoomed-in a little more giving less total vision of the field. like the heroes seem bigger.

Fifth: While I'm loving the art style I wish it was a little brighter overall like War3 DOTA was. It made things really easy to distinguish and separate. Give the heroes colors to keep them from blending in with the landscape. Also, the goddamn trees. I almost hope they change it to all trees being exactly uniform and short. Right now, its distracting and its very difficult for me to discern paths.

Sixth: Over all HUD seems to be a bit too large and wish they would stream line it more. When I click on a hero I really don't need to see/shouldn't see which skills they've picked and stuff. And the game menu system seems clunky. The whole watching games, finding games, with all these news feeds.

Seventh and lastly, and this is probably because I haven't gotten used to it, but the overall game seems slower. Almost like its a bit laggy. I feel like spells take .25 seconds to go off. I don't think this is lag with my computer or ping because when I tell my hero to move, it does so immediately. I only really run into this problem when casting spells or attacking.

Aside from these issues, I'm still loving the game. I'm not going to go into the merits of the game because they've all been said before, ditto. I get that this IS beta and most of the issues I have will hopefully be fixed.

Game needs Australian/New Zealand servers bad. Its virtually unplayable. I'm getting 250 to 430 ping here. Singapore servers are random as anything. One time it will be 250 ping then another i can go up to 400.

The 400 ping games (which are 85% of the time for me), literally have almost 1 second delay on them. Even typing something has a noticeable delay.

Even HoN and LoL produce better pings. I can get 180 to 230 on LoL on the US servers and about 230 to 300 on HoN. At least HoN has Aussie servers so i can get 50-80 ping.

Forth: This may be just me but I feel like the entire game is zoomed-in a little more giving less total vision of the field. like the heroes seem bigger.

That would help I feel like I'm battling to keep the camera where I want it half the time. If it were zoomed out a little more I'd be able to just leave the damn thing alone.

A few of those issues seem pretty legitimate, so I would recommend posting on dev.dota2.com. See if others have suggested similar things. It is still a beta, so feedback is great. Telling us here on GAF does nothing to help the game. d:

I don't want to harp on much because as I mentioned I'm pretty much new to the genre, but hearing the turret voice tell me I was silenced seemed really out of place. Some of the one liners from the heroes are pretty silly, and they get repeated ad nauseum. And yeah, never really been a fan of that style announcer voice.

Wasn't a huge deal, but it just didn't seem to mesh with the artistic direction for me.

I hate to backpedal, but the shitty announcer megakill bullshit shit is actually starting to grow on me.

I never thought I'd be That Guy, but here I am. ):
