Yeah I miss the easy hp on Force Staff.
I didn't have the APM to manage it, but having 8 active abilities is pretty crazy when you can constantly refresh them, tough game, and I had a migraine too, ugh.

Anyway, I'm starting to get hooked. First MOBA game ever, learning support ever so slowly. It's a bitch to keep your teammates maintained with health and grave (playing as Dazzle) but I'm loving it. I hated LoL purely for its fanbase and the fact it gets played to death on college by every other laptop owner. But I love Dota. Oh boy.

Normally I would agree with you but in the middle of a fight every microsecond counts and you can't waste time you don't have.

Because when you want your team to "back," it's extremely time sensitive and you have to call it as quickly as humanly possible, as every single millisecond counts. It's also quicker to spam it over and over as some people do to make sure everyone sees it.

This week I've learned to swear in an ENTIRELY new language. It's like they complete sentences then they stick an expletive, then n00b at the end of it.

I've quickly learned what these uh, "shortcuts" meant from experience. Lol. Yeah, I'm getting hooked as well. But I don't see myself getting very far (skill level wise). Which I'm cool with. Sticking to support for a while...

Lack of skill isn't my problem. I'm dog shit and I know it.
Their refusal to speak a common language everyone else has adopted this game drives me insane though. You could have a game with 4 people from 4 nationalities all speaking English. But the Russian will continue to speak Russian even if you've made it clear no one understands them. But if you die voilà: They speak enough English to tell you to: fuck off noob uninstall.
I know I'm generalizing but BY CHRIST IT FEELS GOOD TO GET IT OFF MY CHEST.
Anyone else got the problem that they can't connect to a game server?
I can start DOTA and sign up for 'match making' . Once we have enough people I see the loading screen, but after 30+ seconds I get booted to the lobby with the message that it tried to many times to connect to the server.
I tried it several times, also to just observe a match and I also tried to start an own game with bots, but it all resulted in getting 30+'s seconds of loading and getting kicked back to the lobby with the message I couldn't connect to the game server.
I only have Windows 7 FW and DOTA was added and has access and I even tried to disable the FW. Nothing changed.
Any thoughts?

I always feel like a dick when I get put on a team of Russian speaking people (and the only servers I have on are US servers!) and then they say something with my Hero's name in the sentence and I have no idea what they are saying. For all I know they're telling me to come help them take on a Hero somewhere and I have no idea.

Yes, yes, yes. A thousand times yes. I don't understand why the fuck they're speaking rus, when most of the team obviously aren't russian speaking dudes. It's just irritates me. What worse, most of our gaming community plays not for the victory, but for the high K/D rating. It's not just about dota, it's about almost every damn game. CoD for instance, you'd better not to know what the heck happens in there.
Get basilus for creep armor first. Creep pull lane, then small camp with treants (move back the one that is being focused when it has low hp and then send it back in so the treant with a lot of hp now tanks). Repeat those two until level 3 when you have rank 2 treants. Now you should be able to take the medium and big spawns (just remember to drag back the low hp ones to let the others tank). Creep pull every once in a while since you wont have the mana to spawn new treants all the time. I usually stay at rank 2 treants since it's enough to farm woods with, unless I'm going to push lanes early. But it might be better if you go rank 3 or 4 if you're new to dota, but this will lower your ability to gank.
If you don't know how to creep pull, you can probably find a good guide, it's really easy when you understand how it works.
I just go with Basi and 2 Clarity, wait in base for the game to start and then summon treants and move them near the easy camp while you regen. Summon 2 more when cd is up and then take a camp near the easy. Also if it's close to :55 seconds then just run away from the creeps and stack.
Rush a Midas and then do whatever, he works so much better with friends as you can co-ordinate ganks much easier.

That's good too, but if someones new to dota, keeping track of stacking might be hard to do, but if it's possible, it's great. Claritys will make it much easier too, unless you get harassed, so I usually go for a stack of tangos just in case. I know it's something you can just send after a camp, but I try to use chick as little as possible at the start because other lanes probably needs it more and you'll probably not have flying yet. Midas first is the way to go if you want farm. I usually go midas -> treads -> agha -> guinsoo. But some might prefer an early dagon for ganks.
Stacking the creep pull camp is also nice since it will kill probably kill the whole lane spawn, so it will deny much xp that would have gone to the enemies on the lane.
There's so many ways to farm woods, so for those who are new to dota, try to do it different ways and see what you think works best for you. You might also want to do it different ways depending on what team you have or what teams you're up against.
I don't mind people speaking in other languages, because a lot of the valuable information is all abbreviated anyway(ss/mia, b, gank[I think this word is dota specific]) and pinging helps, but if someone speaks in an entirely different alphabet, then you really have no idea what they are saying.

I think I got the hang of Sven now (was a practise match but whatever :>). Got to learn to last hit more and optimize the item build.

Probably by playing people who aren't completely terrible.
He can't really do anything if he's getting ganked. Low hp and no skills to help him escape.

Is it just me or or are binds to your mouse buttons bugged? Some games, if I use blink dagger with mouse 4 it instantly blinks to where I have my cursor instead of letting me target a spot myself. It differs with every game and is like this with all the items, i.e hp potions instantly gets used on myself and tangos instantly eat the tree I have my cursor on.
So true, my last game was with Zeus and he drew 18 kills. I wish I was that good with Zeus. We were fighting a team of 4 carries, one 'support' (vengeful spirit lol). It is no wonder why we steam rolled them in the long run. Hell, I didn't even play that well.
Does EVERYONE play carries? Jesus, guess I will play a initator/support team. God.
In the learn option it classifies Vengeful Spirit as support, probably because of her aura and her wave but she has her magic missle stun that should be maxed out first. However, just because she has a single stun I wouldn't classify her as a very good support class. Not with heroes like Dazzle and the Witch Doctor to choose from.
