He doesn't speak over VoIP, but he still uses pings / text to communicate, he has very good game sense, so he's able to usually know what an ally intends to do based on what their doing.
 
Seriously Gez, you're gonna sit there and say that HoNGAF is racist and drives people out of IH? We don't even play that often, and when we do we hardly talk at all to people that aren't hongaf. If you're not manning up and naming people that you have a problem with, on an anonymous board no less, you can keep it to yourself. Don't just make blanket statements about a community that are entirely false, because there are people here that will believe you. Swag, HoNGAF, made this thread and patiently maintains it. Kagete, HoNGAF, is probably the nicest motherfucker on this board.

I got in the beta and played a total of 4 matches. Lost my first match using Necrolyte, it was pretty bad. Then won the next 3 with Lich.

So far, I'm just using support heroes, but I definitely want to learn how to use the type of heroes.
 
First match, on my desktop, game ran great.

Never really played a MOBA before, toyed around with LoL and played WC3 but not DotA. Ran as Drow Ranger. Went 8/8/5, thought I did pretty well for my first match, our team won, although I did select beginner, so I doubt I'm up against the best.

Second game, on my laptop at a friends, tried running Invoker, game crashed my computer. Rebooted it, ran again, tried to rejoin, crash again, just Dota2 this time. Third time, try to change video settings, same results.

I guess I can't run this on my laptop, which is a shame, it was going to be my default laptop game. Also the disconnect 24 hour matchmaking debuff sucks. 40 minutes in queue with 8/10 people and some constantly leaving.

Oh well. I'm still hooked.

I only played a few matches as support and got bored with it :x

It's always best to dive into the other roles once you have the basics down (when to push tower, last hits, etc etc).

Dunno if you might want to try this, but randoming when you feel you know enough is fun. Been using the random button for a few days and been having so much fun. There are classes that will be a pain to try and work with (Pudge!!!), but maybe you'll find classes you will learn to love :D
 
Just finished my first match against humans. We lost but it was fun. No one bitched or complained. Went 1/7/5 as Tidehunter. I'm not totally sure the loss was my fault since everyone was dying a lot ans no seem to understand what was going on. TH is really fun, I need to watch some vids and learn.

Regardless of the context, I find racial slurs completely unacceptable. If that's the way you guys talk on Mumble, I'm definitely going to stay away.

To be honest I have never heard anyone use racial slurs in any context, and I have no idea where people get these ideas and impressions.

Unless they count huehueing as a racial slur.

It has definitely happened in in-houses, and at least once in Mumble. I don't recall who actually did it (as I honestly don't give a shit), but yeah.

EDIT: Actually my bad. Now that I think about it, I only ever recall "faggot". Racial slurs and homophobic slurs kind of blur together for me, filed under, "whatever", so I often don't bother to differentiate between them.

Almost a good thing you crashed. Invoker is quite the complicated hero to play. Definitely not a starter hero :lol
 
Tried playing a game against bots and got owned, even on easy. I didn't know what to press to deny them and I wasn't familiar with the items, lol. Guess I'll have to patiently read through the items and stuff.
 
Hold A and you can attack your own units under certain circumstances. Creeps at 50% HP, Towers at 10% HP, and you can attempt to Deny anther hero when they have some Damage Over Times spells on them (Doom is the big one, but there are other ones I don't recall that you can deny at)
 
Holy fuck, i know this is still in beta but i can't even play a game with bots without getting disconnected. I have to connect to europe servers because i'm in the middle east but every single fucking game i get DCd.

Questions: When i'm at the shop at the top lane, whenever i try to buy something it goes straight into my stash. Why have a shop there if i can't even buy something from it? Is it to buy something, and then have the courier take it to me?

I can't find a way to play this in offline mode. Is there one?
 
are beta signups going on right now? i am trying to help someone register but the standard link just goes straight back to the dota 2 blog instead of opening a box in the steam client. when i try the link myself it no longer shows a steam message saying i have already signed up either.

veno dots are the other major source. you can pull it off with any dot except axe's battle hunger.

There is a script that forces attack on right-click. Makes denying so much easier and it doesn't really work except in obvious cases (near-dead towers and creeps for example).

You might have to close the shop page and reopen to refresh the item list. If your store list starts with things like Tango/Clarity/Salve then you are probably buying from the fountain store. Strange though that it doesn't know you are at the side shop/secret shop and instantly update the item lists.
 
I suck at doing to killing. Real good at doing the dying. I just want to go in all the time, which in most cases terrible idea for hero played. Just want to blink ult. So fun.
 
Last-hitting early on in this game seems so much harder than in LoL. Or is that just me being used to LoL? Gets easier as the game goes on and I have gained a bunch of AA damage, although at that point in LoL I'd be clearing whole waves with many heroes' abilities.
 
Invoker is amazing once you memorise the spells. Tornado and Forge Spirit to initialise attacks, Cold Snap on the carry, and Deafening Blast, Ice Wall when they try to run away. Not to mention Ghost Walk if things get too hairy.

Having a blast playing as him. Anyone has any tips though to be a better invoker?

And oh, Orb of Venom + Cold Snap to help in early game ganks works really well.

Might be better to play in Europe if you're in the middle east. Most players in Asia seem to focus more near the South East Asia area. Thats pretty far from where you are.

The side lane shops have a limited stock of items. Here is a list of them:

If you are buying those things, make sure you are close enough to the shop.

you're just used to LoL. it's the same.

and man, this page...continues to show me the make and manner of community these games seem to breed. I'm definitely interested in playing with more GAFers. I want to see if these homophobic/racist rants are true.

I don't understand what it is about any game that spawns bad attitudes, disrespect and disdain.
 
It is harder to last hit in Dota early game IMO. You do about the same damage, but creeps have More HP, and do more damage to each other, so In LoL, the window to last hit is larger.
