Was there a custom tower defense mode in WC3 Dota? It seems like it would work perfectly: have people pick 5 heroes, give them some amount of gold, send waves of ever more powerful creeps and they could upgrade their items in between rounds

There was so many types of games man. SO MANY. Every map had their own set of heroes and skills, I recall some about defending a base using heroes.

There was one where you used Space marines (from SC) and roam in a space station with aliens, the aliens could infest the marines and won when all of them got infested.

I really wish Valve opens up dota2 so we can get those maps again. Pudge wars was really fun for example.

Another thing, tilting is much worse in DOTA than it is in other games.

Just ask the kagebros, masters of psychological warfare.

Enfo's team survival pretty much.

I agree, they dont even need major support, just a server browser since TF2 and CS already have custom stuff.

I mean why not team deathmatch? Or free for all? Or ctf? Or dungeon crawler maps

you know valve made a game out of this, right? it was their first free game i think. alien swarm iirc

edit: diretide was terrible, people only played for the loot

We had diretide, never again.

What I want:

Pudge Wars
Tree Tag Enting
X Hero Siege
Wintermaul
Infestation
Vampirism

Really hope the mod tools for the game come out this year, would be really nice.

And Diretide was a lot of fun, Greeviling got boarding really fast though, which likely was a bit of a disappointment to Valve due to so much more work being done on Greeviling.

Sigh.
Bad day. We win one match with my friend, then the rest are all losses. Others play badly, and i fuck up constantly (trying out new heroes). The third member in our party apparently threw his mouse to ground or something, at least based on what i heard over Skype...

Anyway, i need to find out what i really like. Support's all right, but i really don't want to do that in every match (especially since not all supports are what i like). Would prefer a bit more different role... Gotta try out heroes, but when playing with my friend, it is not a good time. If i play Warlock or Jakiro or some other i've played with already, i can do just fine but...
My problem is, i don't care to play alone. Doesn't really matter what game it is, i have no interest to play alone (Mechwarrior Online being something of an exception). Yet i can't really play with any more experienced people, i may well drag them too much down :/

EDIT and if i don't play alone, i don't improve fast enough (i doubt i'll ever be skilled in this game but at least somewhat decent player is possible)

Just had a game there with Dazzle where within the first five minutes looked like I was on my way to an early mana boots...I finished the game with the same items, bad game

Seems like you would benefit from playing organized bot matches, especially if you're trying out new heroes. You're not playing alone, and you wont' drag anyone down (you can play bots on easy mode).

Perhaps. Only that i don't really like playing against bots. I learn bad habits by doing that.
Know this from experience with RTSes, Strategies and tactics used VS AI don't work vs players, and i'm much, much lazier player VS AI ("it is just a fucking dump AI, i don't care to do stuff fast... oh, look, AI beat me, sigh, i'll play something else").
My problem, not the problem with bots themselves, one that i've never really "unlearned".

Man this concede bullshit comes up like every other month, and it's awful. I used to be 100% for concede until I truly noticed the difference in quality between HoN pub games and Dota pub games. You lose one teamfight in any tier of hon and the concede spams immediately come out, people will afk or troll just to get their team to concede. 3-4 stacks will bully the 1-2 players left if they refuse not to concede. It's just awful all around. Games almost always end prematurely around 15-25 minutes because one side barely lost the early game.

Sure, there are stomps in dota, it's going to happen sometimes. But with every patch, icefrog has made comebacks easier and easier, and a concede option will eliminate 90% of great comebacks, like mr. men's wearhouse, I GUARANTEE IT!
That's again limiting yourself to seeing dota 2 get a concede option working just like in other games.
While the number of limitation they could put on it to balance it, are limitless. It can be limitation in the match itself ( not before 30min, gold/xp dif > to x number, Barracks difference, a 15 min delay between call for vote to reduce spam; Heck you could even make it so you can only try to concede once per match ), it could be about the quatity of concede call you could do ( as low as 1 per week but renewed if it was successfull ). You could make report on people who asked for the concede to have more weight if done after an unsuccessfull vote ( for easier punish on people who would afk/feed or whatever to make other teammate want to concede ). Etc..

Not quite positive, but pretty damn close.

Well, if you're not willing to practice or learn in a controlled environment, then it would seem that you need to be ready for more of the types of days you are posting about since you'll be doing the trial-by-fire approach. Something, at least at your level from which you're describing, I cannot advocate since I hardily dislike/disapprove of trying a new hero in a public (non bot) matchmaking game.

edit: I suppose I should ask which you dislike more: days of games/furstration like you're posting about, or practicing vs bots? Practicing WILL make you better. How you go about practicing, and whom it will affect int he process though, is obviously your decision.

At this point, I want a concede option so people can stop throwing a hissy fit about it.

My problem is more of that i could go play alone in MM and get people with similar skill as me and learn naturally, if slowly (and hopefully pay enough attention to the metagame to avoid learning bad habits), but i really don't care for playing alone.
Would be still trial-by-fire, but at least others are probably doing that as well (especially if i play single-draft).

Not sure why i don't just ask that if people (with similar skill level/amount of matches played) here are willing to add me and perhaps play occasionally. Shyness probably, it takes a long time before i start talking in voice chat or even dare to invite others or ask to play with them.

Still think learning vs bots is a bad idea, too easy to learn bad habits, which are hard to get rid off.

Practicing vs bots. I can deal with losses, and it wouldn't be so frustrating if it weren't with my high-skill friend (and his friend(s) at times).
EDIT it was more like that their frustrated mood infected me as well. And then i feel guilty that perhaps i fucked up a bit too much, considering the skill level of other players.

Have them make 'smurf' or alternate accounts so that you all get opponents with skills that are around yours. Seems to be the best thing in this case with how you're wanting to do things. From personal experience, it solved the frustration with playing with certain people as I didn't care how we did on that account (until I did my MM experiment and now I don't care with whom I play on any account).

so had a game where, even before the game starts, some guy on the enemy teams leaves =/ then another guy on their team abandons =| then our tinker for some reason also leaves. so at this point its like 4 vs 3 (magnus, luna, viper) who stay. and honestly if it wasn't for ravage i don't think our team wouldve won.

but yea. what with all these leavers all of a sudden. and i can't even report them because i don't have anymore reports left.

all you people love the wrong things in life.

Why would you report someone for abandoning? They've already been flagged with that. Everyone else in the game is under no obligation to stay at that point, so they wouldn't deserve any report either.

You have Chat, Skill, and Feeding for report options. None of those fit what you're describing. Unless you just want to try to stick it to someone?

And smurfing is something i really, really hate. Ruins others games. Saw enough of that in Halo 3.
Disgusting.

I have strong principles... hell, i don't use exploits even if undetectable/okay, and generally steer clear of things that are OP (not just considered but are). (I do have rationalization for this of course, i'd rather no bother wasting time learning how to do something that may be fixed by the time i'd learn it).

I should just find more people to play with, i think, and be willing to organize games, parties, etc., but it is not something i'm good at.

Ok, so you're back to square one. Play with friends that are of significantly higher skill level, get put against people of their ilk, and learn the game with admitted frustration until you're that level as well. No more posts about bad days though, because that's what you're wanting.

Personally, I think what you're doing is ruining the game for the people you play with. Notwithstanding are those in your party, unless they don't know your skill level.

edit: I will say that there used to be a NeoGAF Noobs and Reddit Noobs channel or some such in game. You might try to find people of your skill level and mentality there.

EDIT that said, i'll ruthlessly use stuff that are not cheating or exploits or OP, if they're well within allowed rules, like camping in shooters (usually frowned upon as it is seen cheap, though nothing ever forbids it and it ain't an exploit either, nor OP if you are expecting campers)

I should just find more people to play with, i think, and be willing to organize games, parties, etc., but it is not something i'm good at.

So am I the only one who thinks that the shield icon in the character cards shouldn't stand for both "durable" and "escape"? It might be a little confusing to newer players. Nothing major, obvs, but something that crossed my mind.

As far as i'm concerned, icons are confusing. End up checking what they say anyway, completely ignoring the icons themselves.
If other noobs are like me, then the shields standing for two things is probably not a problem, since i try to learn what heroes are, not what the icons mean.
