Afaik, if you did not give
the kennel master the flower from the Wilds, you lose out on the dog. If you gave him the flower you should get a cutscene while traveling on the world map to Lothering.

Ho-lee Fuck. Where did my Friday go?! I woke up turned on my laptop and launched DA:O for the first time to start up my male human rogue game. Then it was 3:30 am and I'd just cleared Soldier's Peak.

Good God I'm in trouble. :lol

Edit: Just got the Grey Warden Commander Armour too. Just not good enough to use it yet!

Damn :( I guess i'll have to be careful I don't miss out on any other party members then, what a pain :/

Not according to Eurogamers latest review for the 360 version, scored a 6/10.

After their RE4:WE review, I think it's completely transparent they aren't playing the games they review.

I used to think a little highly of Eurogamer before that review, but since then I couldn't give a damn what a Eurogamer review says. For what it's worth to you their non-english branch gave DA:O a 9 or something.

Arcane Warrior is so awesome. Casting fireballs while wearing Blood Dragon armor and a huge sword is so much fun. I can even heal myself.

Without being too specific, where do you find it? I have a specialisation point and that's what I'm saving it for.

Wow, you're burning through the game. I'm like 30 hours in and I just finished
securing the Urn and saving Arl Eamon.
The only other Grey Warden related quest I have done is the
Circle of Magi since I had to go there to get the mages help in rescuing Connor.
Maybe I am spending too much time doing the side quests and reading the codex. I also really need to stop going back into dungeons / areas that I have already cleared out just go loot the locked chests (I don't normally have a rogue in my party). I think there have only been like 2 or 3 chests with actual worthwhile loot.

Also, wow at Alistair
being the old king's bastard! Can Grey Wardens even have children? I can't wait to go back and kick Loghain and Howe's asses and claim the throne for Alistair. I assume something will go terribly wrong though.

love the game, but that would be sad if thats the end. :( I thought this was a 60hour game, maybe If i do all the sidequests huh?

I dont think its 60 just for the story.. oh well I'll make another character

I would be surprised if there is a ton more content after the
Landsmeet and whatever happens there. I would assume it is directly off to battle the Darkspawn Horde after that.
There will probably be some epic fights and lengthy dungeons, but I have a feeling you are nearing the end in terms of story content. Who knows, though, the game could have some surprises left.

Regarding inventory space.. i found something out at Ostagar that i didnt pick up the first time through. Merchants sell backpacks right? The thing is though the Quartermaster will sell you another if you check his shop after
you get back after the meeting with Flemeth and Morrigan.
So right now before access to the world map i have like 90 spaces.

It might have been answered already somewhere in this humongous thread, but how are the controls on consoles? is the game playable or is it a big mess?

I have both the PC version and the 360 version, and I like the 360 controls a lot. As always, the joysticks give a you a lot more freedom to move, and the inventory is pretty good (much, much better than Mass Effect).

Some other advantages of the console version:
- The Junk section of your inventory. You can move any item you don't need there, and sell it in one go to the merchant. Greatest invention ever in RPG inventory management.
- The Quick heal selection, which automatically selects to most appropriate healing potion. Much better than on the PC where you have to arduously drag a healing potion on each characters quickbar.
- Best of all: There is an option to switch off "persistent gore", which gets rid of the ridiculous blood spatters on the characters.

Of course, the PC version looks a lot better, but I'm not a big fan of the constant pausing, and the action-y feel of the console version suits me fine.

Well side-quests are a great deal of content in the older Bioware games. In BG2 for instance, the main game takes like 50-60 hours the first time through (not skipping dialogues because you know what they say, actually figuring things out, etc). Total game time if you do everything (all the side-quests, getting all 16 party members and doing their quests, taking full advantage of your classes keep, exploring every last map thoroughly) is something like 200 hours.

edit: kind of on the subject of game length, i really like how the loading screen of DA gives you a quick run down of what you were doing.

Well, I didn't fully believe even after the reviews and impressions, but this game really is great. I started playing yesterday at 10 or so and didn't stop until 5 in the morning today. It's been a while since I've done that.

The UI is a bit of a mixed bag, it has nice effects and I really love that you can freely adjust the number of slots in your quick bar, but the small (at least in 1920*1200) central menus (inventory, journal, etc.) all waste a bit too much space.

I think it's regrettable the PC version doesn't have an in-game AF setting. With the standard perspective the difference in clarity between the ground textures with no AF and forced 16xAF is like night and day, and many people won't see it.

In terms of length I've played around 7 hours now (very thoroughly I think, including exploring all the conversation options and reading the codex entries) and the game says I've completed 10%. So that would put 100% at 70 hours.

Of course you can do that on PC as well. One of the first things I did.

I wouldn't want to play without the iso perspective, it's so satisfying to quickly place an AOE spell in such a way at the front lines that it hits 5 enemies but none of your party memebers. Zero friendly fire damage so far :D

By the way, I've heard some people complain about the loading times. Personally I haven't had any difficulties with that, they've always been well below 30 seconds even for the largest areas I've encountered so far.

Curious. Can you obtain a keep for your characters as a base of operations? Or are you always on the move going from location to location?

There is the Wardens Keep.. i dont know how much of a base since i dont have it it is but it has permanent storage at least. Its $7 i think.

Apologies if it's been asked, but without getting too specific/spoilery, are the romance options open to a Dwarf as well?

Because that just might be enough to elevate the sex scenes from "embarrassing" to "so embarrassing it's awesome".

I'm at 8 hours with 8% done. And haven't even touched codex entries. This is going to take a while.

If you play with loot glint and persistent gore on, I don't want to know you.

Just did the first proper boss fight on Hard, and watched the resulting cutscene. Both were awesome (although I saw
Loghain's betrayal
coming several hours earlier).

Yeah, his smirk is so obvious.

Did anyone else completely cheese the first boss fight? He always went after one specific party member here, which I had running in circles the entire battle :lol

Thanks. So the storage is what you have to buy or the keep? Is it simply a chest or an entire room, etc?

How do I force 16x AF on my ATI Radeon HD 4890? Do I need to use the driver utility or is there a config file I can edit instead?

You can force it on the driver, but the preferred method would be to go to "\Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age\Settings\DragonAge.ini", find the line for Anisotropic Filtering, and change the 0 to a 16. As the other poster said, it really is night and day. The textures look much much sharper.

Been playing this almost nonstop, though I do have to say this is the first game since Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines and possibly GTA IV where the lack of nudity really freaking bothers me. You can tell that the idea for the sex scenes and other parts of the game were at least intended originally by Bioware to have nudity in them, but ratings fears made them change it. I mean honestly why would Morrigan show LESS cleavage during sex than her default outfit? It's ridiculous.

I know the ratings realities, and it's not a matter of titillation, but by the Maker, it's absurd that in this hard core fantasy world people have sex by dry humping in granny panties. At least in Mass Effect they were nude, even if you didn't see the naughty bits. You can tell that these scenes were designed for nudity, but when they couldn't do it they left them as it was. It looks even more embarrassing with clothes than without.

Also, every on of these games either needs to give better lighting models in character creation, or give you at least one chance to change your character's appearance after the initial creation. Hope someone figures out a way to change my guy's looks soon.

So I probably won't be able to get this for a few weeks, but quick question, is there any area/environment like the one in that sick-ass Sacred Ashes trailer where they fight the dragon? I dig crazy snow cliffs and shit...

This is the first time I have trouble choosing between three versions.

I fear if I buy the pc version it won't run properly,
I have an intel dual core 1.84 Ghz cpu
a nvidia geforce 9600 gt with 1 gig on board ram
and two gigs ddr2 ram in my system.

The only thing under recomended is my cpu, but reading reviews the cpu is one of the main causes for performance dips (a quad core gives about a 29 % improvement in overall performance).

Anyone playing on an older dualcore,
how's everything running?

If it's still silky smooth I'de get the pc version, otherwise I'll go for the ps3 or 360 version so I don't dissapear behind my pc and my wife can join in on the fun...

QUESTION: So I'm at level 12 now, everything's going well except I realized last night that I was never given a chance to choose a specialization. It's supposed to be at level 7, which my human warrior is way past, I've "unlocked" a few of them but I don't know how to choose one for my character. Thoughts? Feelings?

There is a crazy snow cliff type area, just do yourself a favor and don't bang any gongs.

Man, I really love Shale. Terrific character both in and out of combat. I love his outlook and philosophy on things, as well as his personal background. Also, the fact that my player character is a mage is quite ironic given Shale's backstory, and he doesn't fail to mention it.

And yeah, I switched to Hard difficulty permanently. I'm sorry but they simply fucked Normal up. I had to actually go into the menu and check that I hadn't accidentally switched it to Easy, it's that bad. I went from having to regularly bust out the healing spell and a couple of healing pots during most battles, to literally just letting my characters go and simply watching their health bars as a test, and seeing the bars barely moving. They got boost in defense on top of the boost in offense, so they take less damage while ending battles more quickly.

Having said that, I suppose that makes it more like Normal difficulty in most other games, but I really thought it was nicely balanced before and offered a fun challenge.

Hard is fantastic, though, so it's not that huge a deal. Should have played in that difficulty from the start - it's not nearly as absurdly difficult as I was expecting and feels like how the game should really be played. I was micromanaging heavily on Normal difficulty anyway, so it's a natural progression.

You have to unlock them for your Warrior class, I think Alistair teaches Templar; You get Champion from Arl and I think you buy the other specialty from a shop/merchant.

As for the other chars, if you unlocked Archmage, obviously only those mage classes can pick that specialty.

Once they're unlocked, they stay that way for subsequent play throughs.

The junk section sounds kind of neat, but the rest of what you list I can't agree with. How does a joystick give you more freedom to move than WSAD and a mouse? I move around quite a bit with WSAD when controlling mages to get the right positioning. Regarding the quick heal selection, that is pretty cool and is nice to have as an option, but seriously how hard is it to drag an item down to the quick bar? It takes a few seconds and you only have to do it once. And another poster already pointed out that you can turn off the persisent gore in the PC version.

If you turn the difficulty all the way down you won't have to pause much at all, if ever. I am still on normal and at lvl 14 with some decent gear I can just breeze through most battles. I'm thinking of turning up the difficulty.
