I don't see this game making any money. It's marketing budget must have been huge. I was bombarded with ads on twitch and reddit for months (still getting reddit ads). I assume they also marketed the game on youtube though I cannot confirm it as I have a working adblocker there.

Yup, PS5 only vs PS5, Xbox Series and PC and a higher install base now. No platform deal either and won't sell anything in Asia whilst Rebirth and DD2 shifted copies in that region (FF7 approx 500k in Japan with digital sales). Word of mouth and games reputation isn't great but is largely positive for DD2 and Rebirth (GOTY contender).

It's uphill battle from here for Dragon Age to recoup costs and no doubt this entry is damaging for the IP.
Now we know why EA didn't announce any sales figures yet.

Dragon Age, Dragons Dogma 2 and FF7 are all flawed games that deserve their poor or underwhelming sales. The modern audience is rejecting these games that have become formulaic and have lost that magic of earlier games in the series.

People will blame wokeness, exclusivity and bugs for these sales numbers, but ultimately these games just arent very good. They arent bad, but not great either. And its good to see sales reflect. Too many mediocre games have been selling like hot cakes for too long which has allowed devs to become complacent and lazy. Both in terms of visuals and game design. Not to mention the atrocious storytelling present in all three games.

How can one achieve this level of anti-cynicism? Even after experiencing Inquisition, ME3, Anthem and now Veilguard, somehow this lad still thinks they’re getting ready to turn everything around.
This lad doesnt think they will turn this around. Yet since mass effect is one my favourite trilogy of all time, i do like to have hope and looking at what director of game says after veilguard. So if you have anything useful to add please share, we might learn something and see a world that Bioware might survive

This was fricken obvious from the start, only mental nutjob lunatics from places like resetera or think like them would want to defend this insane and evil shit cause they don't think like normal people. The ccp count shows the truth from the very first weekend. Well deserved and yet another brainrot insane woke flop added to a huge list of other woke shit that flopped this year.

But Jason Schreier told me it was topping the charts!!!!

I think for some people, as soon as they see the "wokeness" tag attached to a piece of media, they're going to avoid it for ideological reasons.

But for a much bigger group of people, I think it's more pattern recognition. They've seen enough media that other people describe as "woke", they know a lot of those movies/shows/games were low quality, so they can now sense when new media is likely to follow the same trend. They may not be ideologically driven, but they have enough of a spidey-sense to know what they don't like. It's not the "angry incels" alone who are taking down these movies/shows/games.

Yeah I think even people who don't particularly care about the whole culture wars and wokeness stuff are starting to get tired of bland "modern" entertainment, and starting to notice patterns.
This is obviously anecdotal but over the last year I've started noticing that even a lot of my family and friends that are more on the liberal or "progressive" side of things have started joking about the forced diversity in Netflix shows or rolling their eyes when you see more diversity among a group of elves in Rings of Power than in a big international airport during peak vacation times.

I think many avoided Veilguard not because they are on some active crusade against "woke" but simply because they recognize elements in it that remind them of all the other boring, bland and hyper safe modern entertainment they've started to get tired of.

Veilguard is what I anticipated, my first impression of it was bubblegum fantasy and something that didn't interest me.

I like Capcom and they usually deliver great combat mechanics so I will get DD2; and for me, FF7Remake delivered (for the most part), so I'll also get Rebirth.

This.

From my job, family, friends and even in a huge blue state. Plenty of the neutral folks are starting to get tired or annoyed at the whole insane woke stuff. Lots of folks who didn't mind woke things shifted to disliking or outright hating it over these years. Don't think many people have problem with gays or lesbians in films or games but when they start pushing insane and evil shits like it/they/them/shit/creature shit on people. Making freaks demanding to go into bathrooms that they're not suppose to or in sports, sending demons to brainwash your little kids at school etc etc and worse expect people to be okay with it then yeah it's going to start turning a lot of even neutral folks against them. And rightfully so since those being bad and sick are just common sense and shouldn't even be a debate in the first place.

And while the percent of folks who makes a lot of ragebait videos isn't a high percent. But the higher percent with a open mind might still click on it to see if the game is really actually woke or not. And when they see the game really is that nasty than the neutral folks will still think twice before getting the game.

EA is just bean counters. They know.

I doubt they do. After all, you can attribute this game's failure to all sorts of different factors:

- long, contradictory, and troubled development history
- poor writing and direction
- lack of role playing in a role-playing game
- childish aesthetic and tone
- the fact that it left the core DA audience behind
- woke messaging

EA executives aren't going to necessarily leap to the conclusion that the game failed because of woke messaging. In fact, I don't even think that myself. Imo, the game failed for a variety of factors, woke messaging being one, but just one. We put a lot of emphasis on that here, but I don't think EA execs will see it that way.

I believe internally they gonna sure as heck discuss those topics and even reach this conclusion that wokeness interfered with the sales(not the main or sole reason though). Now saying that on public? Don't think so, probably gonna attribute its failure to other aspects.

That's right. There's a strong correlation between wokeness and low quality. You don't even have to be an "anti-woke" person to be suspicious of entertainment with woke elements in it, because so often, woke = suck. It's a perfectly natural assumption to make at this point that if something has the strong odor of woke, it will also be low quality writing, characters, dialog. It's hard to think of counter-examples.

Wait a minute, didn't this guy say that DA's sales were largely in line with those two games last week? 18% and 21% is a sizeable gap.

Yes, they will probably discuss it ... very quietly and carefully. :p Privately, they might attribute a portion of its floppery to its wokery, but not the main part (as you say). Many of these corporate execs have been inundated with DEI messaging for a long time, so it's going to be hard for them to even mention it as "problematic," to borrow a term.

Game Journilists tried to flog this dog as a 10/10, the same shit they pulled with Inquisition which was absolutely awful.
Fans are on to their crap and don't trust them, it showed, now they're rowing back on everything.

Games "journilists" are the absolute enemy, anyone listening to them are fools, the same with metacritic and opencritic.

Trust forums and folks opinions.

Where is that poster I was arguing with about how “that Christopher something” said the sale of DA were “close” (on in line) the sales of those other titles and that we didn’t know what meant?

Yeah, he owes me an apology or an unequivocal, yeah, you were right.

Veilguard selling more than Rebirth in the UK is a tragedy... but it doesn't surprise me because gamers here have absolutely terrible taste in games, Most PS5 consoles in UK bedrooms and living rooms collect dust or are cod/fifa boxes.

Not really that bad for Rebirth since Veilguard had three platforms while Rebirth is only on one. So the sales expectation is definitely higher than Rebirth. Wouldn't be surprised if budget for Veilguard is higher too with Rebirth reusing a lot of Remake's assets.

I did enjoy my time with Rebirth, did all the side quests and activites, which was way overboard.

I do wonder if there is a segment of buyers waiting for all 3 releases to be available or some special combined edition? or the audience of nostalgic PS1 igames s not as big as expected.

Dragon Age released on many systems, which is far worse and it scares me the direction they might take Mass effect.
