Dragon Quest 11 Announced! [PS4/3DS (simultaneous), NX (tentative)]

So adding the up on the list Square-Enix has the following titles coming go PS4:

Star Ocean 5
Dragon Quest XI
Final Fantasy XV
Dragon Quest X
Final Fantasy Dissidia
Dragon Quest Heroes
Dragon Quest Builders
World of Final Fantasy
Kingdom Hearts 3
Nier 2
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Dragon Quest Heroes 2
Final Fantasy 7 (PC Port)
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Project Setsuna
Hitman
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Final Fantasy XIV Updates (An unidentified amount of content will continue to make it's way to the game).

I got to say I'm very impressed with the output they have coming to the PS4 so far.
That list is glorious. Do we have a release date for Dissidia? I mean, I know they are working on custom PS4 hardware for the arcades, but is it expected 2016 or what? It looked really really good.

Still waiting for Shadow Hearts for PS4.
Maybe Verendus will give us an update on this, some things do get cancelled/changed.

Wow, already a potential NX game, definitely makes me more interested in the system now. Did they give a ETA for DQ 11? Just curious if it wil be near the launch of the system, but probably doubtful if it releases next year.

Sad to see such a short lifespan for the Wii U if the NX turns out to be a home console. I guess with DQ 11 also being on 3DS, the NX could still turn out to be a portable handheld with a port of the 3DS version.

2016.

This did it for me

Now, if the rumors about the NX are true, and it's a portable yet a home console, it could have the same feature. Love this dual screen madness!! Want it so bad!

Expect at least a year long exclusivity, so with Dissidia coming out late 2015 then the PS4 version should be around Holiday 2016 ~ Q1 2017

Considering how many RPGs have been announced this year, it would be hardly surprising for the game to be announced later. Even Level 5 had to delay announcing their PS4 project.

Think it will be a Star Ocean 5 like situation where Sony worked behind the scenes to make it happen. It's not like a Shadow Hearts game would need a huge budget.

I think this speculation in the OP seems a bit unwarranted

It's a turn based JRPG with a topdownish camera. Not exactly the most CPU demanding type of game. It's quite pretty so maybe they're using some of the extra memory for textures but I'd say it's unlikely wouldn't run on the original 3DS. And given how rare N3DS exclusives are and the fact that they didn't say anything about it I's say it's very unlikely

I agree. I can see a MH4 Ultimate situation here: that game actually looks way nicer on the N3ds due to better textures/load times.

Games for it are in development already, but things do change as you can imagine

Man, I don't know if being reassured (by the first part of your sentence) or scared (by the second part of your sentence) about NX third party support :D

I believe in Verendus. I believe in Shadow Hearts PS4. In fact, I'm so confident about this that I'll bet his account on it.

why couldn't you bet his account on FF7 Remake ;____;

No but seriously, he has gotten numeorus things incorrect, however he has also predicted a lot of things correctly, several of those things being very surprising. I thinks thats the reason his name has been picked up so much recently.

So i guess i will get to replay DQXI three times. 1x 2D Classic mode on 3DS, 3D mode on 3DS and console mode on PS4(maybe NX).

Aint even mad. I dont know might even just start with the classic 2DS mode...this so rad getting a new mayor release in an old IP that looks like this. Getting Mega Man 9 announcement flashback from it.

add another point for verendus, he called the multiplat arrangement almost two years ago

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=87799009&postcount=2805

wait what ? SE themselves said years ago that they had to adapt and DQ would be a multi platform IP in the future.

And some said Wada was not the problem.

CELL was the problem. I feel like I'm repeating myself but it set back console development in Japan many years. It's only just recently that SCE created an easy to use, developer friendly ecosystem where large and small developers can put out all their content on multiple devices. Square-Enix had major White Engine/Crystal Tools issues on PS3 and couldn't even get UE3 up and running due to lack of native Japanese documentation.

Since then Epic Games set up a Japanese division to assist developers using UE, so what you're seeing now is companies like Square-Enix and Capcom using UE4 on developer friendly hardware and judging by the progress made with KH3, it's going to mean Japanese devs get up and running much more easily than they were able to on PS3.

DQXI looked very early judging by the footage shown but it's looking like a gorgeous game which I'm very much looking forward to experiencing. Hope to see more RPGs like this in the future too.

When they were demoing the PS4 version on the bridge, they mentioned "variety" and "gimmicks", somebody care to elaborate?

Is the NX going to play................both versions?

Who knows, they were careful enough to not let us know if it'll get the PS4 one (hence a powerful, traditional home console) or the 3DS (then its a weaker hardware, possibly another portable).
The only chance it gets both its if NX is a particulary powerful handheld that can handle current gen games with toned down graphics.
We'll just have to wait for the reveal, but i'm leaning towards the 2nd possibility.

Still waiting for Shadow Hearts for PS4.
How long ago did he first tease that game? Also it's a series I've been meaning to try. Is PS2 the best option?
That's probably never going to happen. The ip owner doesn't even make games anymore, they make like slot machines from last I read. I guess someone could buy the ip, but don't see that happening either.
But Verendus said so. Is he a legit higher up at Sony or isn't he? I'm confused! Why does the IP owner matter? VERENDUS SAID SO!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget that Shadow Hearts was one of the italicized games in his list. Two from those - he won't outright say which ones - aren't set in stone and he can't vouch for them yet.

Here is his list:

JRPG #1
JRPG #2
JRPG #3
JRPG #4
JRPG #5
New Shadow Hearts
Final Fantasy X spin-off
FF7 spin-off
FF6 remake
New Parasite Eve
Monster Hunter PS4
DMC5
New Capcom TPS IP (Because we need more TPS)
New Prince of Persia
New Cyberpunk Action/Adventure/RPG IP
New Sega Action/Adventure IP
New Marvel Action/Adventure title
New Soul Calibur
New Rockstar IP

P.S: We only have one title confirmed btw
I've deleted the ones you don't need to worry about anymore since they've been announced.

Now which are the two I wasn't sure about out of the italicized? It's going to be hilarious coming back to this list next year. More hilarious when people realise what an obvious thing they missed from that initial post.

Still wating on FF6 remake, new Parasite Eve, new Prince of Persia

I'm just reading the news. I said W O W!! NX version as well!? A game officially kinda announced for an unnanounced console where the only thing that has been confirmed right now is it's codename. Has this ever happened before? The best thing is that this is a (big) 3rd Party game for a Nintendo console. Could this mean Nintendo will finally create a 3rd party friendly console so it can be easy to port and develop there? Ohhhh hope this is a good indicator of that!

Sometimes tech demos end up being games, sometimes they don't! Sometimes money comes through, sometimes it doesn't. Like all things tech, early days are a bit of a wait and see game. But this isn't the thread for that :)

So we got

Star Ocean 5
Dragon Quest XI
Final Fantasy XV
Dragon Quest X
Dissidia Arcade ( running on PS4 hardware .... )
Dragon Quest Heroes
Dragon Quest Builders
World of Final Fantasy
Kingdom Hearts 3
Nier 2

All from direct from SE or through some sort of collaboration. Missing anything? Hell of a lineup.

Add FFVIIR and this list brings a tear to my eye, they're back, Square Enix is back T_T.

Seeing those slimes bounce around in an HD environment brings a smile to my face. Considering the tech involved and the kind of visual fidelity they're aiming for, if executed well this could be a really phenomenal game.
