Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

fought another one of those damned fire drakes for.....30 minutes. it's hard when one of your pawns refuses to give you ice enchantment. my weapons barely scratched him.

I'll take what i can get at this point, its becoming depressing. I've killed Daimon 18 times, fuck!

Its weird how the 13 fabled items are actually lower than oblivion/hellfire. I have the red hellfire pants and arm armor but prefer the look of the lower tiered black items.

You say potato, I say potahto ;)

Doh! Good luck, we demand pics once you finally get what you're after!

by the way, i got a nice belt dropped from some eliminator. better than my last chest piece.

i don't remember getting equipment dropped off monsters in vanilla.

Very cool burgerdog. So it actually says "level 4"? I imagine if it came from a chest that you could save/reload to get what you want.

I've got oblivion arms and legs. Want that chest though. The helm looks like ass so I'm gonna have to find a substitute

I've discovered Explosive Volley. It's so goooooooddd. I can spam it on living armor during the first stage and my pawn will smash it up with daggers, triggering explosions that send it flying though the air. The explosions don't do damage but it allows the pawn a ton of free hits since it does stun the living armor. Then when the armor is broken its a few ninefold bolts and its dead.

Also makes Wyrm and Thunderwyvern fights a
piece or cake.

Nah, the cursed item still says lv3. Those sets are just a "rare" version of the 13 fabled items.

Grave -> Carrion
Traitor -> Hellfire
Shadow -> Oblivion
Sovereign Cloak -> Hellfire Cloak

Four pieces per set plus the cape makes up 13 items.

My Sorcerer is decked out in full grave now and has the best staff in the game. I'm using the rare pieces for my main, currently have the Oblivion chest and gloves, coupled with the shadow hood and pants.

Right. Okay. My main is wearing Carrion gear at the moment. I got one Grave item as well if I recall correctly. What's the best staff? Is it the one that's like a demon claw at the top? I have one of those.

My pawn is at 2700 STR in main and 2300 in off. Need to get a few more items (Bestial eye and Thunderwyvern horn) to finish off the gold-forge on her now.

Some questions (just started the wyrm quests)
-about gear from the black cat and the other vendors, especially the black cat stuff : it seems hard to figure out what is worth buying and what isn't, it's all rather expensive at this point in the game (I'm a strider my pawn is a fighter)
There's some cool cloaks and chestpieces there but they seem to vary fairly little (resistances and debilitation resists) for the cloaks.
I'm lvl 28 and have mostly fully upgraded gear from the armor vendor in grand soren which seems almost on par with the black cat stuff, found a helmet from a chimera that craps all over the vendor loot so idk if I should spend my gold right now.

-should I change my pawns vocation to get them extra abilities? I don't really know if you can keep your other class abilities, augments or both?

-should I swap from assassin to another vocation temporarily for different augments and abilities? I wouldn't mind being able to carry more weight and get more stamina and be able to buff myself with elements on the weapons without relying on the batshit retarded pawns to MAYBE buff me when I need it (I guess fighter is the class to swap to to unlock that?)

-should I be swapping out my side pawns very often? Sorting through them in the search function is quite the pain in the ass:( Having to spam L1-R2 to see if they have the spells I need and then summoning them and checking AGAIN to see if they have the inclinations I need:\ Isn't there an easier way to do this?

-quests!: how do i figure out what new quests are available and when I should/can do them and when they disable other quests? Do board quests ever dissapear from the boards? Should I be doing the escort quests?

-marriage: I heard something about your char marrying the char you have the highest rep with later on, is there a way to see the rep I have with each npc, does it matter WHO my char marries? Should I even care?

Also thank god for finding 2 teleport stones so far and being able to get infinite teleport crystals, I put one at the knoll and one at the female bandit fortress, sure makes getting around a lot easier.

Hi guys, got the time go play the game today. And I have a problem. Installed the second disc without any problems, but the game disc doesn't do anything when I try to install it via dashboard. Disc seems clean and okay. Works fine without installing.

Edith: Never mind it started installing.

Yes, you should change your main pawn's vocation around just like you do your's to have them learn new augments or cross-class skills. Well, it's your choice technically, you don't have to necessarily do it.

Again, you don't have to, but it does make sense to grab some great augments from other classes, like sinew. While augments carry over, you can't equip actual skills/spells to classes that can't do them. So whether you know buffs or not, you won't be able to cast them as a fighter or ranger or whatever.

Yes, the secondary pawns don't level so you should swap them in and out whenever you've leveled a fair bit. It's also good to mix up your party for different situations.

-quests!: how do i figure out what new quests are available and when I should/can do them and when they disable other quests? Do board quests ever dissapear from the boards? Should I be doing the escort quests?

You..don't. At least not without exploration and experimenting. Without a quest guide, you will definitely miss or just overlook some quests that have weird triggers or do disappear during certain points in the game. Board quests don't disappear but escort quests can disappear depending on whether the npc is there anymore (they move around) or what your affinity looks like. Escort quests tend to be pretty hard early on but then it doesn't help when they disappear when you're strong enough. I dunno, I scratch my head at that too.

-marriage: I heard something about your char marrying the char you have the highest rep with later on, is there a way to see the rep I have with each npc, does it matter WHO my char marries? Should I even care?

There are in-game tells that let you know how far you are with them in terms of affinity, but I don't know if the game explicitly tells you in-game. If you look it up you can just read about the different cues.

Thanks world, I guess I'll look up a guide on augments for each class to see wich ones I want and how long it takes to unlock them.

Are there any specific ones you'd recommend everyone gets? (the weight one seems like a must)

One more question: is there a way to level up a vocation quickly (without gaining too many char levels?)
I assume that if i swap vocations ill be gimped for a while until I get the skills needed to fight and it wouldnt be smart to keep doing story quests meanwhile, but if I just go to everfall to level up a bit I assume I'll gain more char levels, I really don't want to outlevel the content and make the game trivial, the difficulty feels just right (challenging) right now.

Had a look at my playtime to see how much I've played since getting sucked into the vanilla game last year.

I've played this more than my favourite RPGs. Please make more action RPGs, Capcom. <3

I've accepted this Escort Quest and everytime I leave Gran Soren a Griffith descends. I can't kill it without losing the escort. Is there a way to cancel the Escort quest? Or will it be lost forever?? Thanks!

As soon as I got to Gran Soren I switched to fighter for sinew. It's a rank 5 augment. It took maybe 2 hours of doing the side quests I had in my log before I hit rank 5, and most of that was travel time. It's really easy to level classes..almost too easy. I feel I could just chip away at each for a few hours and build the perfect role with perfect augments even this early in the game. On the other hand, most stuff outside of where I was "supposed" to go has been pretty hard so it's not like I overpower enemies. So I don't really get why they bother throwing so many escort quests at you so early when they all take you to insanely high level stuff.

If the npc dies it's lost forever in that playthrough. So if you lose the innkeeper at Gran Soren on his escort you can't use the inn anymore lol. The escort quests are definitely the weirdest shit in this game..especially cause it seems the rewards aren't even that good.

I think the Griffin ends up going away after a while? I remember that I just tried to keep my escort safe till the Griffint flew away.

So I bought this awhile back and have made my way through the vanilla DD, some endgame spoilers but that shit didn't really turn out how I wanted it to :(.

Wtf happened the dragon got killed but Gran Soren still got messed up, I jumped down the huge whole where the Inn and the black cat used to be and now I'm in this Everfall area I've seen you guys talking about. I feel kinda sour about not being able to duplicate items and use the inn in gran soren anymore...damn wth :(

So with all that out of the way what's the best way to go for endgame stuff now? I got my gear dragonforged now by killing the dragon but my captains armor outfit didn't really get a boost did it?

I'm like lvl 44 Assassin right now, fully maxed out Strider and almost maxed out Assassin vocation too, my main pawn is a fighter.

Kyoufu I took Katon through a couple Daimon runs, killed a few drakes and wyverns, etc.

Hopefully it nets you a few good RC.

Yeah, it did, thanks.

I'm at a million RC now so I'm pretty much set. <3

Sheesh, the Everfall is no joke. Must've died at least 5 times in a row just now.

Can someone explain to me why sometimes my health gets fully restored while other times it's just a [small] part?

You recover bleed damage only (grey area) with Anodyne. Must use curatives to recover the rest.

Are you sure? I've never gotten an Oblivion chest piece from a chest. Only directly from the Daimon.

I'm sure. The first time that I defeated Daimon 2.0, only received from him materials (Daimon's Horn and Daimon's Claw).

The Oblivion chest piece was from the treasure chest (Cursed Armour lv3).

First time through the game, around level 22

I see a cart getting attacked by some goblins,I run to go help out

Fucking gryphon comes out of nowhere and slams into my party

As I try and recoup, he flies off never to be seen again

Fell in love

Level 30 now, switched to assassin which is quite a change from my super tanky starter class and getting my ass whipped but loving every minute

As much as I love Dragon's Dogma, I find it extremely hard to like Bitterblack Isle. It's a copy/paste dungeon and somehow they managed to make the game frustrating by focusing too much on combat in cramped environmnts. The enemies have, inexplicably, been made unbelievably cheap and hard as well. It started off well; the dungeon is very well designed, but then you start seeing the repeating rooms and the enemies just won't let up. It goes downhill fast is what I'm saying.

The original game was just way too easy, but for some reason they just completely screwed up the balance in the expansion; enemies kill me in one-hit all the time and I have fully upgraded armor and my characters are at level 92. The game really is doing its best not to let the player enjoy themselves and I (still) consider DD to be among the best games this generation. I hope this is not a sign of things to come for future DD games.

I'm only level 18 but it seems none of my quest locations are showing up on the map, the only one that highlights is the BBI one in my hometown. Do I have to go access this in order for quest tracking/map locations to start working?

I was finally going to pick this up today from my usual store (JB Hifi), and was told that it was sold out! They had no idea if they'd get any more for some reason, and said to check out the nearby EB Games - which was also sold out.

Did Capcom understock this, or what?

It was under ordered I think. Best Buy and Target didn't stock it, and I bought the only non-reserved copy at the nearest GameStop.

the original was on low print run as well. capcom didnt want to overprint. kept the price high for long.

I have no clue, but my gamestop implicitly told me that the copy they sold me was one of 5 copies they received and it is a pretty high traffic store as well. The game is just rare as hell in stores apparently.

I used sway the other day. Extremely good helper but damn that bitch is clingy lol. Wherever we go she is on top of me, always following me!

Also make sure you guys update your levels frequently. Every once in a while I look up a parm and their level is way higher than what is listed in the Google doc.

Most generic notice board quests won't show up on the map. Some quests will also require you to talk to some townspeople in order to progress as well.

Ah ok, I suppose that makes sense. All of these were off boards in GS. I figured I'd do them before doing wyrm quests but I'm just wandering around aimlessly trying to find the locations.

So is it worth keeping these Badge of Vows around?

Also, playing as a Mage sucks, damn. Trying to level it up a bit to get some of the Augments though.

Just reached Gran Soren. Enjoying the game, playing through it slowly.

I'm a strider, is there any benefit to changing to ranger/assassin this early on?

If you're not interested in getting to rank 8 for all the augments for strider, going ranger or assassin will give you better stats when leveling, specifically stam for ranger and attack for assassin. I personally went ranger (after running fighter to rank 5 for sinew) because I'm not sure if I really need strider's later augments.. I can always go back for them anyway.

Thanks, I'm still getting to grips with the system, but trying not to spoil myself by indulging too much on online reading/min & maxing.

Just noticed I do not even have my two strider augments equipped LOL (dexterity/stamina).

Your fighter advice is quite good, think I'll do that and decide on strider/ranger/assassin later. My pawn is a warrior.

Yeah, in these games with inventory burden management, skills like sinew really lighten the headache. Like I told someone earlier, it took me an hour or two of just doing my side quests from before Soren to get fighter to rank 5 and sinew. Then I just switched back to ranger. I don't really have any plans to min/max either. Apparently if you did you'd just level Assassin to 200 and then, finally, play the class you want. LOL NO. Strider->ranger seemed absolutely fine to me. Ranger is insanely fun.

The answer is simply - both versions suck - just get one and play this amazing game.
