The game will look like Dragons Dogma is higher res. Dont expect it to look like Deep Down. I dont think this is using panty raid engine.

The treatment of beloved franchises in the Japanese videogame industry has truly turned into some sort of monkey's paw horror story in the last couple years.

I said this with Deep Down and I'll say it again, I just have no idea if I trust Capcom with the monetization of a F2P game. It could end up being pretty alright or it could go horribly horribly wrong.

Western "action gameplay" is shit like Skyrim.

I don't think anyone in their right mind considers Skyrim an "action" game; the underlying combat engine is still basically dice rolls based on your stats.Better examples would be stuff like Dark Messiah, Condemned and, of course, God of War.

It definitely won't since it's on PS3.

Man, I couldn't be more disappointed right now. I'm all about MMO games, but it being cross platform with PS3 is already capping any potential it had. Not to mention it being FTP.

Yup, just what I'm thinking. I didn't mind Dark Arisen offering Rift Crystals or a bunch of extra equipment as microtransactions, and I think a f2p Dragon's Dogma could work the Path of Exile way. Heck, I'd probably even buy some vanity items to have the best looking Arisen out there.
But they can so very easily ruin the game with this. And this is Capcom we're talking about.

No plans for the West? Fuck me.

Guess Capcom doesn't want that Mordor, Skyrim, ESO, or DAI crowd's money.

It's a bit too soon to announce their intentions for western markets. Frankly I find the reactions to a basic PR statement from their UK side pretty hilarious.

Is it possible that the gameplay will be..
How do I put this... Tailored to Japanese tastes considering they are apparently not considering a western launch? Dragons dogma clearly had western influences in its action gameplay, hopefully it will feel the same.

Are you kidding? Everything about Dragon's Dogma's combat was Japanese.

it's most probably the other way around, it's on PS3 because they werent going to build the game from the ground up.

Like Monster Hunter, they will probably reuse as many assets as possible from the previous game.

I really wanted to play the game once Dark Arisen was released, but I never got around to it. That said, I'd welcome a remaster with open arms.

Do you think they will reuse some assets from the Ps3 Dragons Dogma Games or work with the Pantha Rhei Engine and make this look sexy like Deep Down?

This wouldn't sound bad without the f2p part.

Honestly yeah, because other wise it would be Phantasy Star Online but set in the DD universe.

I think the reason it's F2P is because capcom doesn't want to push marketing heavy enough to try and make this the "next big thing" because capcom just flat out doesn't believe in any of their products in the west unless they're called Resident Evil.

So if it's F2P at least they'll be guaranteed to have people playing it, while if it's a full release 60 dollar title there is a likely hood that it will find itself in a situation many Japanese online focused games find themselves in...Dead online population.

When I say online focused I don't mean games that are VS or COOP necessarily, but rather games like Armored Core Verdict Day, where they supposed to be all about the online meta game, or a big system that you legitimately cannot enjoy without a sizable online population.

So I think this is why capcom went for F2P, because they have no resources to market it enough to try and make it a big thing.

At least with Monster Hunter they already have their die hard fans and their big core, even in the west, hell and partnering with nintendo is actually genius because nintendo does 90% of the advertising for them through directs and with bundles.

This is mostly written with the assumption that capcom intends to bring this to the west, and honestly F2P model seems to do well in japan so that can be another contributing factor.

Edit: Lol I guess it's just not coming to the west, eat shit capcom corporate.

For all the shit Capcom gets, Dragon's Dogma was seriously one of the best things they've done in years. It deserved way better than it got, and certainly deserves better than a future as a F2P title.
