Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

I just want to say that I love the dungeons in this game, I just got to the proving grounds in the dungeon under the shadow fort and it looks amazing.

Well that's scary.

I've put 60 hours into this game and I haven't even had it a week.

Got the
-----------real-------------
ending at least.

Gonna do a few things then maybe sit down and work on the review.

Aw man, hopefully I'm not locked out of anything now...

But hey, as long as my vain helps out someone, it's better. :p

I just reached the post-game stuff, and trust me, you dodged a bullet when you missed out on that quest. Completing it gave me an "Aw, you have gotta be shitting me, game," moment towards the end.

You're better off for having skipped it.

I spent a whole hour shopping for my main pawn, then I figured I didn't like how she looks so I rebooted and now I have to start over with the shopping

I have issues

Anyone play around with the powder charge skills? Worth using?

Also want to try out daggers (as you can go dagger/shield with assassin) but I haven't found a single good one yet.

I've been playing around with the Assassin class and I think the upgraded Powder Charge is very good against large enemies and groups. It really knocks Chimeras, Griffins and Cyclops off their asses.

Shit! I just witnessed the effect from giving the King a forgery of the wyrmcrest ring. So what's in the chest if you give him the real thing?

Hmm, I should buy that. Windmill Slash has been underwhelming.
This game has the griffith mask!? I gotta buy it now unfortunately. Any other Berserk stuff to sweeten the deal?

Griffith's armor/weapon + Guts' armor/weapon

Even without pictures that post is awful spoiler-y. And a cavalier attitude toward spoiler tagging regarding this game is a real shame, because going into the later parts of it blind is pretty fantastic.

I made a pretty-boy Arisen with an upturned mouth and it is the greatest thing. Every cutscene so far has made me burst out laughing at my dude's inappropriate expressions.

I think I'm doing something wrong. I'm really early into the game and everyone is raping me.

I checked my pawns and at some point I recruited someone who was Level 40 or something. Could this be scaling the enemies up or something?

I just keep getting obliterated.

Or is the Witchwood / Quina quest to be attempted later? I'm scared I'll SCRAP quests if I keep going on with the main storyline though, do I get warnings?

the bandits are owning you.. trial by fire, learn how to beat them and level in the process -OR- run past them, the actual witchwood location is super easy.. when you get all your skills bandits will be cakewalks when focused.

There's no level scaling afaik. Are any enemies in particular giving you trouble?

There's a group of bandits who always attack me on the way to Witchwood. They are all pretty easy to deal with but one of them has so much health that there is no visible decrease when you attack him.

If I run away my pawns stay behind and just DIE. =/

That guy is like an 'elite' enemy. I do not know what level you are now but I could easily tackle him when I was around Level 20.

Hahaha, I know that dude. Worked me over a ton of times. Just run past him if you're really stuck, though I was able to kill him eventually. They might be gone if you go at night, though that comes with its own dangers.

As you sprint past keep hitting down on the directional pad to spam the command to come to you. They'll leave off attacking quicker if you do that. Once you're in the woods it's no prob to heal up a bit.

Even without any sort of assistance from the player the Arisen seems to make an awful lot of inappropriate expressions in cutscenes. And if you throw on a full face helmet to cover it up you're treated to seeing the solid metal plates of the helmet stretch and deform with every change of expression.

Mere steel is no match for the expressive power of the Arisen's facial muscles.

Most of the time bandits are even more dangerous then your average ogre or chimera.
As a Mage/Sorcerer, those ranged bandits are a nightmare to deal with. Also there was one guy near Gran Soren who tries to rob you. He doesn't respawn once you kill him. I died so many times to him it's not even funny.

I'd said it was bandits..
the come on command should have made them run with you though.

It's kind of pulled a 180 for me now. Archer bandits literally deal one damage per hit to me. They're still annoying as hell, though, given how many of them there tend to be.

:lol It would have been nice to have a good story with impressive cutscenes, but at least what we got is entertainingly bad.

is this a ps2 game? the cutscenes (and graphics) look horrific. the tearing is almost unbearable. hopefully this game is good because I'm just after the tutorial

I like to say two things.

Play a PS2 game and then come back to this.

Yes. This game is great. The combat and difficulty is what this game excels in but it is not for everyone.

I was exaggerating but this game is ugly as hell. The tearing, the flickering shadows, the bad graphics and the horrific pop-ins (I installed the game) give me headache. I don't know if I can stand this visual mess.

Probably picking this up tomorrow.
How long is it, roughly? and are Ranged/Archer types are ok? Is it harder than melee?

It can take you 30 hours or 300 hours. You should not pick this up for the story but the combat and sense of progression is definitely there with plenty of loot. You can get up to Level 200.

I am currently playing a Ranger (Archer) and I love it. It is much more action orientated than other games.

So some of you played the game quite a lot, how is it? I was very interested but got into D3 with a friend... Is it worth to get if I'm a fan of RPGs, boss battles, demon/dark souls and MH ?

Check out a few gameplay videos and see if it's something you fancy.

Almost every battle is a boss battle and there is plenty of exploration. You can also easily switch between classes without having to worry to lose skills and such.

Hmm..., maybe not if you're a fan of RPGs, boss battles, and two games that it feels similar to. No, probably not a good idea.

Christ sake, just go buy it already. It'll be the best goddamn game you've played so far this year.

Dam, I hate Golems... I was fighting one with my Level-up party, 2 Sorcerers, Mage + Fighter and it was taking forever.

Does anyone know the Quest requirements for the Hero Achievement?

This game really needs an easier way to fast travel. I won't even take on some quests or escort missions because I know I'll have to walk across half the world map, fight the same enemies at the same spots, and and then walk all the way back again, it's so tedious. That's my single biggest flaw in an amazing game and it sadly partly ruins the experience for me.
