Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Hmm, I don't know what happened lately, but I met my first
Drake
and managed to defeat him in an in-game day, and suddenly after this everything started feeling easy.

With my magick archer six-shooter skill and the sorcerers
comet
thingy, everything just dies around me, and I love it!
But I cannot for the life of me figure out if it was because I avoided bigger enemies for so long that I leveled up that much, or just the small enhancements to all my gear.

Now I can't stop longing for the taste of blood

Dam, I hate Golems... I was fighting one with my Level-up party, 2 Sorcerers, Mage + Fighter and it was taking forever.

Does anyone know the Quest requirements for the Hero Achievement?

see theres your problem you should substitute one of those sorceres for a strider/ranger as the best way to take on a golem is to scale it, area spells do bugger all :p

I wasn't expecting a Golem... it's my level-up party :) I play a Magick Archer and my Main Pawn is a Mage. I switch around level-up time to get that +5 To Magic Attack

Damn just got in an epic battle. About 5 lizards+Chimera. Manage to get a Gryphic Victory 2hander which doubled my pawns damage. No idea what dropped it for me.

I was exaggerating but this game is ugly as hell. The tearing, the flickering shadows, the bad graphics and the horrific pop-ins (I installed the game) give me headache. I don't know if I can stand this visual mess.

Your name is "The Perfect Dark", so I'll assume you actually play that game half as much as I do, and you enjoy the greatness that it is.

It seems as though you might be specifically looking for tearing and pop-in. I've been playing since release and only noticed the "Npc's not appearing fast enough" thing in Grand Soren. and only with merchant's or quest npcs sometimes. I find it hard that anyone who is actually playing the game to have fun will overly notice things like that. But I suppose that could just be certain folks

Is there a way to buy expressions or something for your pawns? One hired pawn would wave in front of my face when I was idle and another did the sign of the cross or something after defeating an enemy the other night.

No. I don't know if anything in the game affects what they do, gesture-wise, but your pawns basically develop their "personalities" based on how you play the game and what you tell them in the wisdom chair.

Hrm, well maybe one day my pawn will learn expressions.

Yeah, I've hired a Pawn and after every boss fight she'd kneel and honor the fallen.

I chose the "talk a lot" option at the wisdom chair and my pawn was reading out a page of lore when we were near the pawn guild

As far as personality, I don't notice anything unique, boring pawn #442

So the honeymoon is over with this game.

After about 10 hrs I've had enough, same areas over and over, same loot that I bought when I arrived in the city, same skills etc etc. I'm also having zero issues with difficulty at level 30ish, it's actually really easy now.

I need a freaking new longbow, I missed the golden idol quest but did the silver one, which didn't add a new bow to the merchant. I hear some canyon has loot, so I'll check it out tonight.

This game has the griffith mask!? I gotta buy it now unfortunately. Any other Berserk stuff to sweeten the deal?

Yeah, the armorer in the capital had it for sale, obviously for like 30-40K, but by that point, I had already found the body armor and cape, so I went for the whole set. Mask, Arms, Legs. I love that the mask has matching feathers on the back, as the cape. Makes it seemless looking.

This game really needs an easier way to fast travel. I won't even take on some quests or escort missions because I know I'll have to walk across half the world map, fight the same enemies at the same spots, and and then walk all the way back again, it's so tedious. That's my single biggest flaw in an amazing game and it sadly partly ruins the experience for me.

Just use a Ferrystone and you don't have to walk all the way back. Get far enough into the main quest (not far at all) to get the Port Crystal and place it somewhere in an area you feel you will travel to a lot to cut down on traversal time.

I know that this game stealth install on the PS3, but it's normal that the drive make all this noise?

Probably not. I didn't notice very much noise with my system.

LOL

I was on an Ogre managing to hit it enough for it to lose balance and fall off the cliff along with one of my pawns. I luckily escaped within the last second.

I love this set. I found all the pieces in my adventures, and have a few doubles of some pieces. Looks great on my pawn.

I think I'm doing something wrong. I'm really early into the game and everyone is raping me.

I checked my pawns and at some point I recruited someone who was Level 40 or something. Could this be scaling the enemies up or something?

I just keep getting obliterated.

Or is the Witchwood / Quina quest to be attempted later? I'm scared I'll SCRAP quests if I keep going on with the main storyline though, do I get warnings?

I just smoked through that section with only myself (fighter) and my pawn (strider) without a healer/magic... we were both at lvl 7. (I restarted my game after getting to lvl 40)

It's all about strategy, and pawn inclination. One of the hardest enemies in the game are the damn bandit archers. I have my pawn set up to go after them, and magic users... and I tank on the melee enemies.

So far... this playthrough is so fun. Actually having to use and manage curatives and consumables, instead of just automatically dumping it all into storage.

I wish the Pawns I hired would do something cool.

The mage is a keptomaniac, the other just yells "watch out" or "be careful" randomly.

I hired a midget Strider once. She specialized in running up to ogres and dying.

Mine waves at me if I don't move, but I honestly haven't noticed if he's done any other gestures after a fight. Especially at this point now that I'm doing the post-game stuff - shit is just way too crazy. I did this fight last night where I was trapped in this little room with one of those wraith dudes that casts magic and he kept summoning hellhounds, giant undead zombies, and skeleton knights and I got my ass whooped the first time. Then the second battle was just as crazy - barely won.

And the epic chest held... a healing item. I felt so ripped off lol.

Mine is all supportive. He's a ranger now and he'll shoot off that arrow to weaken the defenses on a Chimera and then run up to it and jump on its tail and be all like "I'll hold the tail! Attack it now!" Guy is a champ.

My pawns mostly specialize in dying, though. One is a mage and the other a wizard. I've been considering changing my pawn back to a fighter so he can tank again.

Gonna start this game later this afternoon. Any suggestions on starting out? Is there a way to avoid failing quests? Is it advisable to do all currently active side quests before doing main quests?

One of the places has a vendor, so keep a lookout for him. He's behind a door that unlocks after you fight.

Anyone noticing MAJOR lip syncing issues? Like the lips move for 5 seconds before the speech comes in. Is this on both 360 & PS3?
Yea, its WAY WAY WAY off on PS3.

If you do all the side quests, you'll lvl quick, and the game can get a little too easy later on. I don't know how any of this relates to achievements (don't care myself) but I restarted and now I'm only doing quests with really high money rewards, or stuff related to the story. I don't do any quests that are just XP or give you something stupid... I actively avoid getting XP if possible.

There's no warning about failing quests. But so far, looking back, there wasn't a quest I "lost" that was really worth worrying about.

It really is a great looking set. But the items to get 3 stars...wonder how long till I gather those :lol

It is so costly to upgrade. I got most of them to three stars, and just have the armor left, and something else. Maybe the greaves. Need some Griffon Pinions. Time for a Griffon hunt!

Ah, good call. Thanks! I need some new shit - the weapons I have now are just not cutting it anymore lol.

Also, I can confirm the lip syncing sucks balls in this game.

I think the Chimera set looks far better, but even that didn't get me high ratings on appearance like it thought I would.

I'm thinking of taking the pants off my dude pawn and equipping him with the thong and seeing how he's rated lol.

You'll regret that come post-game. I went in at level 55 and it's hard as shit. The walk to the capital was a nightmare and I died once. At level 55. Post-game is no fucking joke man lol.

And just wait till you get to the capital and see what's waiting for you.

What the heck GAF.

I have not played this game for the last 4 days and yesterday I said to myself that I would but I could not even bring myself up to start my console. What the hell is wrong with me.

The game continues to surprise/amuse me. When I was playing on Sunday with some random hired pawns, I picked up an exploding barrel and threw it an enemy. One of the hired pawns made some comment about learning a new technique and for the rest of the time I had him, he would run to exploding barrels, pick them up, and throw them at enemies every chance he had. I wonder what his creator thought when the pawn brought this technique back with him.

So my toon is a level 13 Mage with a Ranking of 4.

I am tempted to change my vocation and go either Sorcerer, or Mystic Knight.

What does the ranking actually do? If I change vocation and lose the rank, is that affect anything?

I don't mind the Mage, but get wtf pwned if I manage to somehow become the focus of attention. I would rather do massive damage then decent damage as well as focus on healing.

EDIT: Am I the only one who wants to shoot himself every time they hear the opening theme song? :p

Ranking unlocks skills, core skills, and augments specific to that class. Changing class doesn't undo your progress with the class you changed from, and you're able to carry over your augments and compatible skills to the new class.

About as much as I want to shoot myself when someone uses the term "toon" for their created character?

I kid

Sort of...

Agreed. I've been listening to it over the last few days. I think the lyrics actually suit the game well.

Also, it is on youtube for those that were looking for it earlier.

Same, I never heard it until very recently, actually. When I got Kingdoms of Amalur and went to their forum. I believe the term comes from MMO players.

Yeah, its used a lot on MMOs. I want to say it started with WoW but I dont know for sure.

Edit: And google says Im wrong. Weird. I never heard the term in FFXI but saw it a lot of WoW forums so I just assumed.
