so i bought the item that lets you change your pawns looks and all stuff from the guy at the encampment ... but I don't have it in my inventory ... what happened?

Save and quit the game and you'll have a new option on the title screen to edit your appearance. Intuitive eh? lol

LoL . wow. I suppose I would have figured that out tonight after work when I booted it up but seriously .. i spent like 40 minutes last night trying everything i could think of except just leaving the game :D

Beginner's luck. Walked in and his health was pretty much gone. About a minute of slashing and he went down.

I said it earlier, but it bears repeating. If you enter the ur-dragon's arena within 30 minutes from his death, he spawns with 0% health. So quite a few people get the "killing blow" on him per spawn.

Capcom didn't handle the Ur-Dragon very well online. They should've made it so that it spawns every 24 hours, and giving players rewards based on the contribution of damage. Then adjust the Ur-Dragon's strength on how fast it died the previous day. People can just log on and fight it with no effort then get rewarded über gear and such.

His loot table is surprisingly small, though, so it's not a big deal, I think. You get the entire armor set in one kill, then you just have to go back one or two more times for the rest of the weapons. Any kills after that would be just for gold or send a low level pawn back with a ur dragon weapon. Haha, I should do that and break someone's game if they decide to use it.

Couple questions again:
1) Whenever I talk to Quinna there's this weird noise. Like a chime, does that mean anything?
2) Is there a board quest or something later to slay that drake in devil grove? I think I'm at a high enough level to do it but I don't want to miss out on a quest or something.

Pretty sure the chime means you have maxed affinity with that character.

The character creation adjustment thing - Art Of Metamorphosis or whatever - is a strictly once-per-game thing.

I believe there's an unlimited use thing for modifying your/pawn's appearance but it's either post-game or new game+.

Post game, it's not too expensive either so It's good.

So what's your standard moveset?

I'm Mystic Knight

Burst Strike/Ruinous Sigil/Great Cannon
Fire Enchanter/Holy Enchanter/Fire Riposte

Not sure if anyone else has praised this or not, but if so it bears repeating - being able to slide down steep inclines from heights that would normally harm you if you jump is very cool.

Burst Strike/Ruinous Sigil/Great Cannon
Fire Enchanter/Holy Enchanter/Fire Riposte

Ranger

Tenfold Arrow/Comet Shot/Varies
Thousand Kisses/Instant Reset/Varies

Tenfold arrow is enough to kill just about anything. I've been trying to practice with the Gambit ability but it's really tough to get it just right. Feels good when an arrow lands, though - sends the enemy flying.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
Level 45, four notches into assassin now. Swords are fun, not focusing on daggers much for now. I maxed out strider and magic archer already.

My pawn took a much weirder path of knight -> ranger -> sorcerer. I'm too attached to the bow to do something like that.

So I'm currently a level 27 magick archer, I played a strider until level 10 before I made the switch but I have to say I'm still finding the amount of damage the magick archer dishes out to be very low. I'm rank 7 as a magick archer so I think I will max it before switching but I'm not sure what would be best to switch to stats wise since I have played as a magick archer for 17 levels now already.

If a weapon has both physical and magick power stats, do they get added together to determine melee damage? Or does the magick power only contribute to spell damage?

ARGH! I hate this stupid save system!

So I start playing, and go about doing some exploring. I go from near shadowfort all the way to the bandit ruins, going south then east. I leveled a couple times, got a lot of materials, and even fought the
magic golem by the hero tomb or whatever. kicked it's ass
. At the bandit camp, I thought I would just try to kill them all, so I saved before hand. Shortly seeing that nothing was really gonna come from it, and that the leader
offered me a quest to join them
, I thought I would just reload to avoid having aggro'd people.

Well, turns out "reload from last checkpoint" doesn't count when you save. Because I reloaded all the way back near shadowfort. An hour of play gone.

I stared at my tv, said "there is no fucking way", and turned my xbox off.

I love this game, but sweet jesus did that piss me off.

Yeah, checkpoints are made only at inns and rifts . . . should've had multiple save slots. Hopefully they implement it in DD2.

Does it autosave as soon as you reload from the last checkpoint? Couldn't you just quit and reload your main save?

If you die/suicide you can reload from your manual saves. It's a bit odd that they didn't include that option in the menu.

So you rest at an inn and set out.

You make a manual save before facing a monster. You die.

If you select retry, you'll retry from your last manual save. If you select retry from last checkpoint, you'll go all the way back to the inn. If you accidentally select the latter, your progress is not lost. Just quit to the title screen and reload from there and it'll take you to your last manual save.

Yeah, either that or just go back to the title screen and load the game. The data isn't gone, but you only have the option of going back to the last auto-saved checkpoint at an inn or whatever if you choose that option while alive.

So, basically, that hour of play isn't gone, you just have to go and kill yourself to be able to reload from the manual save. Makes perfect sense :p

As for me, I've been working on getting Mystic Knight leveled up but I'm getting bored of the game at this point now that I've beaten everything, so I think I'm just going to hit up NG+ tonight. I'll probably call it at that and then move on... maybe to Max Payne 3 to mix it up.

lol, i didn't know, that there is an escort quest for madeleine from cassardis to the encampment xD and also ... dark sidious was at the encampment.... inside, not just on the hill. i don't remember taht from the first playthrough... but i didn't do all things in the same way, so i will encounter more surprises i guess.

this game is so fucking awesome! i love it! 100h in one week. wow, really nerdy... don't want to go to work next week =)

It wipes out all data made after the checkpoint iirc.

No it doesn't. I made the same mistake. So I turned off the game and turned it back on and loaded my last save. I wasn't at the inn anymore and had my stuff back and was at the point I saved before picking the option to "go back to checkpoint".

This description is entirely accurate, and should be handed out to all developers as a guide on HOW NOT TO MAKE A SAVE SYSTEM. Seriously, Capcom, terrible. Just terrible.

One thing I did by accident was load the last checkpoint, and off the game went back 5 hours. I assumed I was fucked, so I turned off the game. Turned it back on and it resumed at my last manual save. So it could be worse than it actually is. If you can believe that.

How many times am I going to lose a pawn just by walking through Bluemoon Tower? Is it really that hard to walk without falling somewhere? Holy shit.

I'm about to start carrying these idiots.

For some reason, I didn't lose a single pawn my first time there, including
scouring all of the hidden precarious ledges for phat lewt.
Next time I went there, two of my pawns spared no time diving off.

With all the dumping I've done on the cutscenes and story, I have to say that the translation/localization is fantastic. Thinking about how much effort must have gone into it is simply staggering.

The writing itself is great, no problems there.

I especially liked all of Julien's insults towards Mercedes.

So scathing.

Post game is absolutely destroying me. ;_;

The hellhounds still frustrate the hell out of me. Something random hits me and knocks me down and then one of them swoops over and drags my body off to some corner and starts gnawing one me while I'm mashing on the help button and my pawns are like "On my way!" but never actually do anything lol

I guess that offsets not being survive falls with last-minute double jumps or floating. I'm still mad about that. :|

The issues I have with the story is that the beginning is pretty weak, aside from the intro of the dragon everything else is kind of plotless and pointless and has some very bad pacing in terms of "Where the hell is this going?"

The issue is unlike dark souls this game is trying to go for a cinematic central storyline, and that falls apart due the sparse amount of cutscenes and the shoddy animation of the characters during in-game cutscenes that drop you from the immersion. I feel that there is alot of personality of some of the characters like Julien, Mercedes, The Dragonforged, and most of all the dragons, It just seems that alot of the depth of the characters is lost due to a lot of odd design choices.

The story is self contained within the quest and what you do.

Like the Wyrm Hunt quest. They give you more insight as to what you are and what you are doing.
