Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Just approach the house by the Black Cat, it should trigger a cutscene.
Yeah, it was bugged. The cutscene wouldn't trigger no matter what I did. I even reloaded the checkpoint and the same thing happened. So I reloaded it again, did another quest first, then tried again and bam... cutscene.
Thanks!

So I managed to fetch the gold idol. Now I'm still unclear to whom I should give it to ? Madeleine or Caxton ? My arisen is male and will be an assassin in the end, my pawn is a female ranger.

Also, should I make a forgery and for what use ?

IIRC giving the Golden Idol to Caxton fills his inventory up with equipment for melee characters. Giving it to Madeleine provides you with mage equipement. Giving either of them fake Golden Idol results in them having a partial selection of new goods.

I think the forgery still gives a discount when purchasing from stores, so give the idol to Caxton and keep the forgery for yourself.

I beat the game without ever seeing a gargoyle. I killed one golem during the entire game (outside of Seline's house). The closest I came to another one (2) was looking for Seline in her forest I saw two lying dormant in the river.

You would have had to have come across more golems than that. There's always a golem along the path to Bluemoon Tower. Pretty sure there's no way to avoid it, since you have to walk that path at least once.

You can get to Bluemoon without coming across it--I know I did.

You can avoid it; you have to get really close to it to trigger the battle.

Might've needed to be at a certain time of day?

Actually, I try to only carry one warp stone at a time and keep the rest in storage.

Is there a reason for that? I keep a stack of about 20 on my main pawn and then just pull one off as I need it. They dont weight that much.

I went down that valley to Bluemoon Tower twice and never once spotted a golem.

Hit me both times too. Its an ambush at the border Smuggler's Pass and Cutlass Canyon, Golems seem only to activate when its dark/going dark though. There's another ambush near Tomb Of The Unknown traveller in the far SW.

Now if only I could figure out how to move the one blocking my way in Witchwood...

I'll have to go back and get them. I went through there at night and got ambushed by a bunch of bandits, but never saw a golem. I ended up killing a ton of ogres, cyclops, and Chimera's in my playthru. Chimeras are always fun. Also killed the dragon about 4 times, but never because I had to. It was just fun. The first time he was a bitch, the other times I did it to show him who the real boss was.

So NG+ is starting to get a bit bland.

I love the game to death, but walking the earth as a godlike killing machine is starting to wear thin. I love fighting giant beasties, but when they can be brought down in under 10 seconds they start to become more of a nuisance than a real opponent. I wish they added more powerful enemies in NG+ to make you want to reach the level-cap, you know what I mean? Here's hoping they add some high-level (100+) DLC in the future.

But in the meantime, I feel like I might want to start over. I've currently lv.71, and it'd be a shame to see all that work go to waste, but I miss the fear of death that my first playthrough inspired. Is anyone else feeling this way?

Being godlike makes it easier to rush through NG+ and get back to the post-game. Just port-stone all of the major locations and you'll zip through everything in a short time.

Game does need some high-level DLC though I'm actually not sure what else could be done. I've wrecked about everything there is to wreck in new-post-game+. Guess I could do the same with different classes, less pawns, and no healing items.

Still...hmm...

Wait what? The reason I was looking forward to NG+ was for the difficulty that pretty much disappeared a few hours into the main campaign. Isn't that the point of having NG+ in a game? If that's true, I won't be messing with it. I'll just roll a new character class.

Aside from the Souls games, I'm having a hard time thinking of a game wherein NG+ is markedly more difficult.

The Souls games SHOULD, however, be the standard that developers look to for NG+ modes from here on out. DD would be much better if it handled NG+ like they do.

Normally games come with different difficulties you can select and you would be given the option to choose a higher difficulty for NG+. DD doesn't have that or the automatic difficulty increase the Souls games had.

i think your pawn will keep its "knowledge" if you just start over. i had to limit myself in NG+ 3rd playthrough i'll do solo speedrun.

That's pretty much exactly how I feel atm. I'm planning on just making another character and dicking around until they drop some lvl 100-200 dlc(hopefully soonish)

They do. Basically everything carries over. It's the VERY definition of a steamroll :). Nice for earning achievements/trophies though

I don't really understand why the cap is 199 :p

Because the main story will only become even more easier as the player keeps leveling

In my case, I felt like I was steamrolling through enemies during the post-game of my first playthrough (played as a ranger with 3 pawns) - I can only imagine that things will be easier the next time around. I entered NG+ in hopes that new powerful monsters would populate the world (or at least certain portions of it), but so far I've noticed nothing different aside from everything being made easier. It's fun for a while - I tried experimenting with new classes and abilities, but when you're so powerful there's really not much difference between a strider's dagger and a warrior's greatsword when everything dies in one or two hits.

I also feel as though my pawn will get less and less use as it gets stronger and stronger, as such high level players really don't need pawns anymore.

Aside from the Souls games, I'm having a hard time thinking of a game wherein NG+ is markedly more difficult.

I agree, that would be nice. It'd be cool to have a new, high difficulty level that unlocks after completion of the game. Or maybe if they scaled back on the NG+ features, like returning your level back to 1 but letting you keep your skills and gear.

So, my pawn needs two more vocations to max out (strider/ranger) and myself some more (fighter, warrior, mystic, knight, ranger and sorcerer)...

But i think i will end my second playthrough this weekend. Sure it's very easy now and not really a challenge, but i enjoy it more than any other game. 140h so far...

Here in germany, DD made it on top of the sales charts (ps3) :)

Quick question, does your progress in "Kill X number of Y" quests carry over to New Game+? I am putting off finishing the game because I still have an assload more rabbits and various other things to kill.

The cap being 199 is what led me to believe NG+ would be harder and harder. Why the hell would I play to 199 if the game is just becoming more and more of a cakewalk. Props to them for not making it an achievement/trophy though. That would have been painful.

So post game eh? Crazy stuff.

I was told it's not post-game. It's part of the main game. I'm in it now, and the world is definitely a different looking place.

Nope, you have to accept those quests over again and your progress counter resets.

i think you're wrong, i accidentally accepted a quest to kill boars in my first playthrough, i never felt like going ham until NG+ where i slaughtered MANY, and it completed the quest. i decided to accept all the kill X many quest i saw after that. they don't expire.

I had the quest open for killing snakes. I had to accept it again with 0/15 snakes killed.

I keep reading in game about giving gifts to non-pawn NPCs, how? I don't see any option and what is the point?

You have the option to gift or talk. If you dont choose gift before moving the conversation along, you lose the option.

I finished the game and gifting didnt appear to alter anything other than giving me an achievement. Throwing people off cliffs never seemed to affect the game or how people treated me either. The only change I noticed was the twinkly sound it made whenever you talked to someone that had received at least 10 gifts from you (or that you had escorted safely). Someone mentioned that there was a sex scene at some point, and I got that but it wasn't with a person I had gifted anything to. Or spent much time with to be honest. Was nice to get a little girl-girl going on though. I'm a pig.

I fully plan on being a Warrior as my main class, is it beneficial to level up my other classes? I have Fighter and Strider maxed and Mage at level 4.

now i'm not 100% one of us has to be wrong, and it could be me..or you.

There's a 100% chance that one of us is wrong. ;)

I'll have to experiment more to find out who.

It's beneficial to level up every class you have the time to level up. It's always nice to be able to pick and choose your augments.

And yeah, if you're going to level up one alternate class, make it assassin.

The kill X number of beasts quests don't carry over. If you killed X number of beasts on a previous play through then enter NG+ you will have to do it again. If you only got halfway through the quest, you'll still have to start it over again.

I'm thinking of making my new pawn in the likeness of Elric of Melniboné. Fighter or Warrior.

Fuck it, I'm going to say it. I've played long enough. This is one of my favorite games of all time, full stop. I've been picking at it, trying to like find a reason to dissuade myself. There are some niggling little problems. It's annoying I can't make my main pawn an assassin or magic archer or whatever. And it gets a little hacky slashy at times.

But god, has any other game replicated this feeling as well? THIS is what the Elder Scrolls games should be aiming for.

Consider the difference in atmospheric pull. The atmosphere is not merely for window dressing, its gameplay oriented. The enjoyment one gets from trekking deep into some woods, running out of lamp oil and then being virtually CONSUMED by the darkness - horrifying direwolf howls and haunting harpy sirens lulling you into the abyss, creepy fires in the great distance hinting at some new undiscovered area - is seriously second to none. It's one of the rarest feelings I've ever got from any game. It's like if Monster Hunter had a love child with Skyrim and Dark Souls, but it only took the best aspects of each game!

God, if the world was only a little bigger and there was a little greater variety of enemies, I don't think I would need to play anything else ever again. What a fucking experience so far

Convince me I should be a magic archer. seems a boring class!

This was actually the next class I was going to try, so I share your curiosity. I'm just coming off being a ranger - a class with a lot of raw power but not much move variety. Tenfold arrow is basically your solution to every problem.

I love archery in this game and would just enjoy seeing it mixed up a bit.

Best thing about magic archers is honestly the dagger skills.
Shadowpin / shadowshackle = best skill in the game IMO, lay down a giant aoe trap thing that lasts for a looong time, and completely disables enemies who enter it.

magic archer = zzz
But yeah, the rest of the skills are pretty boring after the initial "wow" moment.

wait each generation of Ur-Dragon gets even more powerful!?

I haven't even got to one yet!

if it dies fast, it's getting stronger in the next generation. but if someone dies (no matter if using wakestone or not) or leaving before it flies away, it gains health again. at the gamesfaq board someone wrote, that it was several times below two or three health bars, but recovered over and over again.
