Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Man the merchants don't carry good looking gears for my assassin, feels bad man.

My status seem to say I've spent 70hrs in the game total, and spent 100hrs+ with female pawns, that's... weird.
Loot blows for the main game. Now that I;m in post suddenly all this shit is appearing in everfall, etc.

They should have spread it out more or something.

i think it looks great. i found molten, meloreian and steel stuff for warriors in EF, not sure if that's the best gear for them. no chestpiece though.

There's the Crimson set, grisly set, and special non-set items like the dragonscale arm and dragonbeards.

Finally bothered to go past post game, dat credit sequence!

edit: holy shit I spent 40 hrs in post game.

Depends on your vocation, warriors have much better stuff than abyssinal. Most of them are 2% chest drops in the everfall.

Also, the abyssinal set is ugly as sin, I stay far far away from it.

Yea I think it looks awful too. Way too many pawns using it as well :(, really lowers the amount of playerbase to select from.

I felt like a walking god with my magic archer last night. I started using the upgraded explosive bolt, much better! It track, shoots multiple bolts and the large creatures set it off without a melee hit! I took out a two cyclops at once and later a chimera by loading them with bolts and watching them blow up in flames when they jumped or stomped.

I also bought the pawn juice to change my sorcerer pawn to attack more, but it changed the secondary inclination, but it seemed to help.

Some of the sidequest are so bad though...trying to do the eviction quest now...I need to track Pip,found him
on the rooftop and all
and now I have to run after him I guess, but nothing happens when I get near him,it even glitched him at one point so I was right next to him,the B button never lighted up so I could do something with him and instead ended up in jail for some reason...same with the running after the Thief quest...

Is there a chest somewhere that I can leave stuff in it so the stupid weighted down inventory crap doesn't slow me down for these quest??

Otherwise I will just skip those quest...oh and that guy wants to sell me land or house or something for 80,000...yeah right(would I get a chest in there to store stuff?).

Everything else, awesome, killed 2 Chimera and a cyclops on the way to the waterfall quest yesterday, love playing as a Mystic Knight now.

Only level 7, but really loving the game so far!

Sorry, some more questions ^^...

a) Is there some good way to judge the difficulty of a quest? I just got a sidequest in the beginning to go down a well and i can't even scratch some of the monsters down there.

b) What is the "intended" way to upgrade the equipment in this game? Is it by getting gold and buying it from merchants or is it predominately by crafting? Quests don't really seem to give any equipment...

c) As I understand leveling up in a certain class raises stats differently. I am currently a strider but I also wanted to try out being a magic knight. Wouldn't I be very weak as a magic knight due to not having much intelligence/magic stats? Is there ever a point of no return where one should not branch out into other classes that rely on other stats?

d) Regarding c) is there a FAQ/chart/list of what classes and skills go well with each other? So far I am liking strider for the dagger moves when climbing on enemies and using bow attacks otherwise, but I walso wanted to check out a melee or caster sooner or later...

Thanks a lot!

a) Nope, you try and hope for the best.

b) Most of my equipment I bought from merchants. Only the post game has a lot of quality drops/chests.

c)/d) I didn't experiment a lot with vocations personally, so I can't give you any advice.

you have to grab them (RT). it's tricky, but you'll get it.

As far as your inventory concerned: at Pablos Inn in Cassardis, at the Encampment and at Gran Soren Inn you can manage your inventory (deposit/withdraw) at several rest camps you can send something to your storage, you don't have to carry all with you O,o

a) nope you will learn by doing them :) (or ask here)
b) you go to caxton in gran soren, pay G and materials for upgrades.
c) and d) someone posted the following spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...k8wUGNGRTVkeE0xWFE&f=true&noheader=true&gid=9

i just played a lot and max'd out strider, magic archer, assassin, mage, fighter, warrior. the other three classes are not maxed out. so i maybe i missed something, but it doesn't really bother me. i don't want to look at stats while playing, i just play... but maybe you can get more out of this.

bad gameplay lol
Man. I've got SO MUCH really good post-game Warrior equipment, but I'm not interested in the class at all. Anyone want to trade for some post-game strider/ranger/assassin or fighter/mage/mystic knight stuff? I've got a Dwells-in-Light, Barbarian Lord's Helm, and Bloody Thistle I don't need.

EDIT: Should probably mention, I'm on PS3.

I restarted last night - lost my lv.73 character but I'm having a lot of fun at the lower levels again. Remember when a single saurian could kill you? Yeah.

If anyone else has just started or restarted, my pawn Elric (of Melnibone) is a lv.15 fighter, ready for some nice low-level adventures. PSN is Deified_Data. I'll post some screens later.

so, finally a new avatar! i changed the cape to a dark one, but yes. this is my MC.

i just found a dragon's knight helmet in the chamber of hope. actually this chamber is also good for solo players. only
a gorechimera and some skeleton mages...
. First round chamber of Fate no problem, second round, big problem
first drake, dead in less than 5min, gorechimera, chimera and wight
i ran ... was too heavy for that fight xD

if you go solo, you appreciate how much junk your pawns can carry -.-

I'm going to have to do that. NG+ is a real bore. I can't believe they didn't up the difficulty dramatically yet still let you level to 199. What's the point? I look forward to fearing for my life again.

Did you visit her shop near the barber? The mistake I made was doing an escort mission for her and then tossing her off a cliff instead. Bye bye 15 achievement points. But it was worth it.

Unless I'm mistaken, each NG+ ups the difficulty exponentially, so eventually you'll hit a wall. It just doesn't seem to feel like much initially.

Lol, I gave her money early in the game ( at least I thought I did). I've been looking around the inn because that's where the guide says she'll be.

She has an escort quest? Maybe I need to check my quest log. It's conceivable I accepted her escort quest and she bailed off a cliff.

Yeah, I tried NG+ up until about halfway through the main quest and finally decided to restart when I was killing boss creatures in under 10 seconds. IMO, being powerful is really only noticeable when there are creatures around that can adequately test that power.

Playing the saurians in the well quest was every bit as intense as my first time - I even died, which didn't even happen on my first playthrough. I also found a couple quests I never accepted before that seem to disappear after you leave Cassardis for the first time. Every time I play this game I discover something new.

Regrettably, I think you're mistaken. Each NG+ is exponentially easier than the last. You get stronger and enemies stay the same. DD would have greatly benefitted from a difficulty increase in NG+, though.

Where did you hear this? As far as I knew NG+ was the same as NG-. If the difficulty is ramped up with each completion I'm gonna have to start grinding out some playthroughs!

Tired of curatives and crap.
I almost just want to NG this because I'm getting bored :(

As far as I know, here are the only differences between NG and NG+: The riftstone appears in Cassardis granting early access to the Ur-Dragon and the Black Cat in Gran Soren sells port crystals. If there's anything other than that, it's news to me.

There's also an item that allows for infinite character edits, but I can't remember if that was first available during post-game.

This so hard.

Extreme stamina setup along with all the night augments clout and sinew. I still leave everfall walking like i'm up to my waist in mud every time. But chimera of every flavor are a complete joke now even while solo. The Gorechimera are almost a challenge with the skeli-mages backing him up as sometimes he'll just hover over their spell target areas. The normal Chimera on the other hand I have down to less than a minute. Assassin is such a fucking boss.

So .. for clarification : When you level (not vocation - actually level your character up) the stat boost you get is determined by your current vocation, right? So a player who switches to assassin at level 10 and then stays that way till 200 before ranking up any other vocation would have, theoretically, the HIGHEST possible damage output. Correct?

Regrettably, I think you're mistaken. Each NG+ is exponentially easier than the last. You get stronger and enemies stay the same. DD would have greatly benefitted from a difficulty increase in NG+, though.

I'm sure I read somewhere it increases hp/dmg and level of enemies by like 15% each time. I didn't question it, because on my first NG+, I'm level 70, and it takes me almost as long to kill enemies around the midgame, as it did on my first playthrough. The enemies just outside Cassadris are naturally low level, so I could see why people would think enemies stay the same.

But now that I'm on NG+ x 3, I just can't believe enemies stay 100% the same each time, because they sure as hell don't feel that way.

Looking around the net, people seem conflicted. Some say it does scale, others say it doesn't, some say it only scales non-horde mobs like Griffons and Hydras... Can't find a 100% clear-cut answer.

Guess I'll have to keep playing to see. At least it's pretty much a fact that monsters give scaled up XP, otherwise you'd never level.

That's a possibility but your defense would be so laughable +2 at every level up you'd be almost instantly destroyed if something does hit you, even with Blood Lust on.

I really didn't want Sinew, but I was forced to get it because I try to keep 2 or 3 of every healing item. Life, blindness, petrification, freezing etc. etc. just incase a Mage is tied up or dead and my pawn has 2 of every healing item himself, in addition my pawns lug the junk around for weapons, and armor I don't like that I plan to sell.

Foolishly making my character only weigh 68 kg wasn't the smartest choice, but i was going for a specific look...so whatever, but I need it for my status effect arrows.

If they scale up at all, they can't begin to approach the player's level of strength at any given time. A chimera may have 15% more health and attack in NG+, but what took 5 minutes to kill in NG will take 10 seconds in NG+ - that's assuming they scale up at all.

Truth be told, I only played halfway through the main quest in NG+ before losing interest, so I don't know how (or if) things change the more you play. I just know that it's devoid of challenge, and that encouraged me to start over.

Not quite true... and even if it was i would be fine with it. I only have 13 levels that went to anything other than assassin and i'm 64 right now. You should see me gouge. The only situations I have trouble with are when i'm vastly outnumbered and in those cases 5fold cuts the crowd down pretty damn quick and lyncean lets me find that troublesome Lich in the group and put him down hard and fast. I think, as an assassin, I've only had to run away from a fight once (fresh in the everfall at 56 and dual cockitrices made me wet myself. Killed two of my pawns outright and i said fuck this and bounced. Came back later decked for a fight tho... little turkey necked bastards are weak as well when I get my hands on em.) - As far as being so weak .. it's not really that big of a worry to me. If you plan on getting hit .. you'll get hit. Me? I plan on wrecking shit.

I also wouldn't mind dropping sinew BUT for farming the everfall it's a must for me. FYI.. i forget the name of the "cures all bad things" potion but they aren't super heavy and stacking 5-10 of them pretty much ensures a safe 3 trips through the Everfall (if your carrying weight can support it). Honestly... so many milks/juices drop in the chambers down there it's ridiculous. I keep a healthy amount of curatives on me but never like multiple stacks of 10-15 of anything. Little excessive for me at this point.

The best part is that you don't have to PLAY as that class, just make sure when you level-up you are that class. You could play as a Warrior and then right when you are about to level-up use a Ferry-stone and return to Gran Soren, change Vocations to Assassin then level-up and return to change Vocations back to Warrior.

I did this with my Magick Archer who I level-up'ed as Sorcerer for the +5 Magic Attack.

I started a mage character to build up my magic attack, is that enough to switch to magick archer or I am I gonna be too weak without sorcerer levelling?

Prior to this I played a fighter and of course magic archer damage was terrible.

Did this as soon as I realized exactly how the stat growth worked :) Strider is finished and fighter is close to finished and besides those first 10 levels and then the 2 or 3 fighter levels for some more strength it's all been assassin .... and I've been switchin just like you said :D
Was worried actually that it would take whatever class you had done the majority of your level as ... was happy to find out I was wrong.

And as a complete assassin .. in the over world of post game.. there is nothing that can touch me. Large fuckall dragons and such I run towards for the fun of it. Chimera are a joke... as i said.
Really.. status effects are the only thing that ever slow me down anymore as it's rare for me to get caught slipping in a fight. sometimes an ogre will flip out or a cyclops will flail and i'm too far off to one side and get knocked through the air but tapping x to roll out of it when i land and then sprinting right but up his back before he even knows he punched me...but even those are pretty rare these days.

Like i said before as well... the real challenge in everfall is the pairing of monsters I never saw run together up top. Even just mass zombies to hold you still while a chimera lines up a jump attack is annoying.

you have to grab them (RT). it's tricky, but you'll get it.

As far as your inventory concerned: at Pablos Inn in Cassardis, at the Encampment and at Gran Soren Inn you can manage your inventory (deposit/withdraw) at several rest camps you can send something to your storage, you don't have to carry all with you O,o

Thanks for the chase tip,got it,as for the inventory thing,I'm an idiot lol...completly forgot about the manage item at the Inn thing last evening ;)

A good strategy for power-levelling, but I've never been challenged by something so much in DD that I felt I had to level a specific way - you could spend 50 levels as a warrior and still feel godlike when you switch to sorcerer.

/this.

i was so tired with speedtraveling in the first post game, because of asalam in my house at cassardis ... just head back to gran soren for 2pts strength or +5 magick ... nah... i just killed a drake in 1min solo ... lolz... one full stamina bar and fivefold flurry as assassin is enough. if the harpyies weren't there with him in the chamber, it would be even faster.

I'm about to put probably my first serious time into the game since I got it last night. I was operating under about 3 hours of sleep so when I would try to explore the starting village I would literally start falling asleep.

My first impressions are that this game has the absolute worst main menu music ever. Me and my friend nearby couldn't believe how bad it was :lol

PS3 version seems to run good enough. The pop in is pretty bad though. In the starting village I see boxes and crates appearing only 10 feet away or so and in the tutorial dungeon I had a chest appear right next to me after battling some enemies.

Also when do you get to create your main pawn? I only noticed a main character part before the game started.

the main menu music is so at odds with the soundtrack in the rest of the game, it's hilarious. The music in the game can actually be quite good, especially the unsettling haunting track that plays when you exit onto the map at night near Gran Soren and some other locations.

The pop in is awful. Especially when you're sitting there waiting for a merchant to spawn.

The main menu music, on the other hand, is fucking awesome. THE WIND IS PUSHING MEEEE
