Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

so first question, WTF was that all about? second, am I locked into that romance? third, was there another way to handle that situation? and finally, WTF?

1. Its an Edgar Allan Poe in-joke. But mainly it serves as big hint that
the duke is a douchebag
; exactly why, and the context of/reason for his behaviour is explained later. It actually makes perfect sense in retrospect.

2. Yes you can handle it differently.
For example on the floor where you're hiding is a maid's outfit which is a big hint that you can simply walk out of there, although when I tried this I made the mistake of going up behind the Duke at which point he saw me, and freaked out in a fit of remorse. I also didn't wait for the duchess to rescue me as I simply popped a skeleton key (nice shackle synth) and walked out the door!

3. No you aren't locked-into it, even if you complete the duchess entire quest chain including the easily missable Blighted Manse (DO NOT TALK TO THE DRAGONFORGED once the final mission is triggered) mission there's no guarantee she'll be the one. I got Madeleine for example.

I changed my sorcerer Pawn's inclination to:

Primary: Scather
Secondary: Challenger

It's cool. She casts spells non-stop.

Doesn't work that way, your pawn will change their inclination by themselves as best fitting your play style and their vocation. I set my pawn to mage and me as sorc about 40 levels ago. I used the potions and changed her primary inclination to scather. Because as a sorc I had to hang back and cast the big spells, she ended up changing her primary inclination to guardian and secondary to medicant.

This Ophis's Badge quest is broken or something, I can't do anything to progress.

Nobody at the den has a quest marker. Nobody says anything about the quest, not even Ophis. I turned myself and my pawn into chicks to make it easier but that isn't doing anything. What the fuck!

I don't suppose anyone has a forgery they could send me?

So I discovered today when recreating my arisen for my third play-through, that if you make them a tiny skinny kid, you run like twice as fast as a normal sized adult. Nice touch, that. I'm tempted to make a kid assassin just to make clambering over things quicker.

EDIT: Derp, I only just saw the OT actually mentions that size/weight matters. Go figure.

I might as well take images with my phone again. Good Lord the compression is laughable. In any case, don't laugh, I know I have shit tier armor...also where in the hell is Valmiro. I've searched all Cassardis and I refuse to look at the guide again incase my eye wanders and I depress myself....

Quoted so they don't take up the whole page.

Those look like they're straight out of Final Fantasy XI. In a good way, if that's possible.

I think it's a reinforcement thing with the AI that can cause them to change, even things like the d-pad commands. That's what people have been saying anyway. All I know is I used the potions, and also use the chair regularly and the pawn keeps the inclinations I set.

I have quite a few more but a lot of them are more or less just frozen moments in grand stories that i keep for prosperity. Half of them are almost totally dark save for a few points of light... but in that darkness i'm killing my first dragon solo ... or standing among the bodies of an entire dead nu-goblin horde.

pro-tip: Astute eyed gaffers will probably see their pawns in there now and then... i've had a few dependable ones for daaaaaaaays now.

What was y'alls level taking down the U-dragon? Also what chamber held that kick ass sales guy? Need to go back.

There's a vendor in the Chamber of Estrangement and the Chamber of Remorse. For the Ur-Dragon it depends much more on your gears and the generation of the Dragon. I think it gets stronger everytime someones beat it.

Man, not playing for a couple weeks and then coming back and going to the post game...this game just got so much better. So good.

check the noticeboard in cassardis and do the frontier cavern quest to open the door there with the chest. make some exploration to the wyvern/wyrms/drakes at conquerers sanctuary, bluemoon tower ... else... go into ng+ and try different choices to get all the endings^^

The worst example of pawn AI I usually run in to is recognizing what an enemy is weak against and casting the wrong buff on me.

"FIRE HURTS THEM"

*casts ice enchantment*

Some degree of pawn orders like "HEY CAST FIRE ENCHANTMENT FUCK" would be welcome.

If they're making a sequel (THEY SHOULD BE), I would like to have them change the right arrow for healing help and the left one to buffs/offensive help.

Why wait for a sequel? That could be patched in easily. Even though Bethesda is a basement level studio, where I do have to give jack their jacket is that they constantly patch, mod, add things to their games. Which is all fine and dandy, but considering the shoe string budget Itsuno got for this game, with virtually no advertising what so ever, patches of that nature are a pipe dream.

Just use the Help command and they'll use them right away.

This doesn't work well if you have a mix of pawns. I had a mage that buffs fire, and a sorcerer that buffs holy. They both were yammering on and on about how the enemy was weak to fire yet neither bothered to attack with fire or buff fire. So I hit help. What did I get? A heal, followed by a fire buff followed by that fire buff being overridden by a holy buff. Let me bloody choose my buffs, Capcom. Make Left Dpad control help for one pawn, and Right for the other. Do something, but dont make me run away from the pawn who's buffing me with useless enchants that actually hinder my ability to fight.

yea, i've been doing all that. just missing bluemoon tower and catacombs now.

So, basically, the only way to kill the Ur-Dragon is to wait until the community gets it down to 1% life and then hope you can load him that way and finish him off? I'm lvl.85, *** Noble Limb, and constant Holy Enchanted Tenfold Flurries do NO damage. At all.

yeah, some kind of new map behind the frontier caverns...

The entire left side of the map is covered in clouds, the way Gran Soren and everything was before you explored it; that makes me hopeful that we'll get a large expansion, with new environments (snow, desert, etc.) and monsters someday!

There's even an area on the far left that isn't cloudy, looks like some structures or something on the map...

When he gets killed there's a seemingly 20-30 minute gap where the dragon will come down with basically no life and get killed when you hit him once. So there's actually tons of people getting the killing blow loot for it.

I haven't followed this game much, but can someone please confirm me if it's worth playing it because of the story? I've hope that being a jRPG's take on western lore japanese devs could add the story elements lacking in titles like The Elder Scrolls. Perhaps you can tell me if this is the case or not.

Elder Scrolls is Tolstoy in comparison. Buy DD for the gameplay.

I actually disagree. I find the overblown plots from the ES series annoying and the minimalist style of DD (taken a lot from Dark Souls) really refreshing.

I got to the final boss and realized I was under leveled and rushed the quests so I'm starting all over again. That's how good this game is.

so, then there is not really much to do O,o

yeah, since Gen 59 or so, Ur-Dragon is sort of broken. you need Strength above 2k at least to do a noticable amount of damage. i guess only soloruns with a assassin or maker's finger does anything. maybe it will change again, when it's based on how fast it goes down ... maybe not... we will see.

what i noticed: there are probably a lot of people who enter chamber of lament, just to leave it instantly when they see too much health. even when it's down to 2 pips, it recovers so fast the next time i enter... so people are constantly dying or leaving...

concerning west gransys: i don't believe, that there will be add-ons adding new areas... i hope so, but i don't think so... (ore are they on disc already? *trollface*). Sure, frontier caverns is sort of a passage way, where the goblins
smuggled the hydra and other monsters to east gransys, but is there really only one way?
. I really hope Capcom has something planned, besides 100 Badge-of-Vow Quests...

one question:
Is anybody here who plays a female Sorcerer named Lily?

I'll just keep the wakestone....

you won't experience many story interruptions. maybe if you follow the main quests strictly and stick to special sidequests.

Sidequests are developed like Mass Effect games, filled with stories interesting to experience, or more like World of Warcraft where killing the next wolf is the objective?

Sidequests are nothing like Mass Effect. It's mostly escort missions and kill X amount of monsters. They're not mini-stories.

So it's basically an mmorpg stripped out of players. Maybe not my type of game...

Ah, so I just have to watch the thread for someone to post that it's dead/nearly dead, then enter the chamber and hope to get him with low life?

I'm guessing that doesn't kill it in one hit, huh?

Doesn't feel like an MMO at all. Unless you think Dragon Age felt like an MMO.

I don't think Dragon Age has the same structure behind this game at all. Btw I was interested in finding out how central to the game is the story, apparently is not the selling point. I'm searching for something more story-focused currently, so this might not be for me. Thanks for the answers anyway :)

So I just realized you can change vocations and retain all of your Augments.. so what are the essential ones and their respective classes?

I've already got some nice ones from the Strider(hp boost) and Ranger(expanded lantern glow area and increased curative effect) and dunno which to try next. Any suggestions?

Get the night time augments from the Assassin. 70% strength boost at night is just awesome. Another strength boost augment if you solo with no Pawns (Autonomy).

I also like the extra weight capacity augment from the Fighter class.

notice-board-quests are more side-side-quests. Real sidequests have some sort of cutscenes, but are not obligatory for the main storyline. like farewell valmiro. so i think they are mini-stories!

If you want to mislead him and tell him those are like Mass Effects, go right ahead. =)

He's looking for a story-driven game, which this clearly is. I just didnt like the story. Doesnt mean its not story-driven, though. It most definitely is.

Definitely pass on it then; it's more a "create your own story" type of game.
