Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

I just got to the first real town. I'm playing as a Strider. Is this game super hard or am I missing something? I upgraded to Stilettos two stars and everything kicks my ass still while my party members are basically two shotting stuff.

I'm probably not the best guy to answer, but I'd say just run around the countryside racking up kills and experience on bandits and wolves and harpies and such. Get up to a good level, maybe the late teens or early 20s, before you take on the escort missions posted on the boards. I went in on those around level 15 or 16 and totally failed them.

I'm having better luck grinding a bit, and hiring pawns a few levels above me. The game's still challenging, but I'm not getting smoked like I was before.

Good luck!

God's had his chance.
So last night and today have been a fucking harvest...

Twilight Mask
Fey whisper
Carnation
grizzly helm, boots and body armor
2 new rare warrior weapons
Dark greaves
... the list grows... finally the treks are paying off and i'vet g been solo assassin for days now. Just hit 70 and i'm just silly ass strong especially with the new gear. Does kind of bug me I haven't managed to find the rest of the twilight gear but it'll come to me.. i'm a believer now.

And still my favorite part is just landing Splat! on the next level down and standing up ready to go get my murder on! lol... finally digging the everfall ...

So what is there to look forward to later on level-wise? I'm only level 40 and I've maxed out close to 3 classes.

Besides building your perfect augment list you have character stat growth dependent on what vocation you are currently using plus gear and tooling on your skill list. Some serious post game and new game plus work if you want it.

Hopefully DLC... perfecting your playstyle at a godamned amazing game... lots of content there if you want it.

Change to Warrior or Fighter.
Every time you level up with those classes, you get a +5 or a +4 to your attack power.
In comparison, a Strider only get s a +3 when you level up your character.
Switch back after a few levels to a Strider & you should be doing more damage.

I am Homie
Is this game like 99% side quests or when I go to speak to the dude and give up my wyrm hunt license, do I just start a new chapter? Afraid to do it, but ready for more story.

Man I hate
how this game goes from wide-open adventure game into a series of kill rooms. Talk about boring the shit outa me. What a weird design decision. Put these tougher enemies out in the actual world where I could have more fun hunting them. This is just silly.

Not much unfortunately. Around level 30 I started feeling OP, and from what I hear NG+ doesn't up the ante, which is weird since the level cap is 199.

I changed my pawn from Fighter to Mage, but forgot to reset and readjust her inclination. Currently scather, and she's a healer/support, and rushes headlong into foes. haha.

After unlocking Gouge for the Assassin today, I wanted to see how it and the 70% damage augment would do against the Ur-Dragon...

He flies in, health 99.9% depleted; a couple of Fivefold Flurries and *ding* Trophy time! lol

Kind of disappointed but relieved as well, now I don't have to feel like I must fight it all the time. I then went on to complete the game and start NG+, I love it so much with just my Arisen and main Pawn.

Switching back to your old vocation retains everything you know up to that point. 100 kisses is goooooooood while clinging to weak points. Spam that shit.

Try resting for 3 days for big monsters.

Wait, wait, wait...

You're telling me that I can use those special moves while climbing an enemy?!

How could I have missed this?! O_O

Does anyone know if all the escort missions are required for the all preplanned quests trophy/achievement?

They aren't required. If you need a good checklist I used this to wrap up on my last playthrough http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=372407

Finally got all the chievos in this. Final stats were 133+ hours at level 82. Didn't realize your portal stones would carry over through playthroughs where you layed them. Anway, this game surprised the hell out of me. Can't wait to revisit it as a fresh level 1 sometime in the future. Not to sound like a broken record, but this is easily my GotY. Don't see anything remotely coming close to topping DD but I welcome it to try :).

Great. Thanks!

They do? I'm pretty sure I had to manually put them again in my second playthrough.

No sir, they remain where you put them. If you had to reset them you must have picked it up before you started NG+.

After restarting I'm lv.28 and no one wants to use my pawn because he's not a 3-foot-tall loli in a thong. No, I'm not bitter. Not bitter at all.

I really hate how all the good capes and cloaks clip through the Mystic Knight's shield. It keeps me from wanting to wear them despite the stats being better than my shawl thing I've got on him currently.

My 7 foot tall hulked out Warrior pawn got around. Is your pawn a Strider? They don't seem to get much love.

Big time. The Mystic Knight shield is a clipping nightmare.

It took me an hour to beat my first Drake at level 40 because I fought it as a rank 1 mystic knight and I forgot to equip my main pawn's greatsword so she fought the whole time with her fists and I didn't notice.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
Alright, after doing some quests for Maximillian I have finally decided this game is awesome. It's got its boring parts, but when it gets going its great.

Loved the quest where you invade that fort full of goblins, best one so far. Currently doing the cult investigation quest.

I got 20 wakestones but also 0 money, and i need a weapon badly. I can't do anything to ur dragon, what's the best thing to do right now? ng+ would be interesting and i know you can fight ur dragon there, but is there anything i'd actually want from the everfall? Playing Mystic Knight and Assassin pretty much.

NG+ isn't any harder, if that has any impact on your choice.

So last night save my game outside the chamber of hope and i'm feeling pretty slick, so far everfall has been pretty easy and i'm just about getting to grips with fighter class.

My roommate warns me this morning that there is a drake and some harpies, and at this point i'm thinking ha that will be easy :D ...

So I Load my file up confidently step through the door into the arena, first i see nothing, when from literally thin air a Chimera tackels me to the ground, i jump back up, thinking WFT! well chimera's kind of suck i'll just ...when i loose site of him only to get tackeled and pulled away by a hell hound, I struggle free only to get zapped by a linch, and then a freaking Gorechimera smashes me away all in the space of about 15 seconds.

Thats
1x Chimera
1x GoreChimera
1x Lich
4x hellHounds (that as far as i can tell just infinately respawn)

I got raped, with serval wake stones, i can take down the chimera no problem but the gorechimera keeps getting healed by lich, and the lich i cant even seem to hit as a fighter and the sheer chaose of the hell hounds this seems literally impossible at level 50, any tips or should i just bail out :p

it's the chamber of fate :p chamber of hope has skeleton magi and a gorechimera, no arena and that sucks.

i've managed all chambers without problems so far (ng+ obviously). only the archydra is hard... most of the time i'll go chamber of fate and chamber of distress for some drake/wyrm action and all the other chambers (besides ur-dragon) are really random because i can't remember the location O,o so it's some sort of lottery i am playing. found some new loot yesterday and will go on til i got the equipment trophy. 20 more pawns and one more playthrough with two missing quests and i got platinum which i rellay want now for my goty!

Thing is, you HAVE to kill the lich/wight first, those hounds will tear you up while the Chimeras help, and your pawns will die fast..if you reload your save you'll get the Drake from the woods instead..buy yah, that room is evil

but my ego wont let me give up just yet :(

grrr its like its physically impossible to get a hit on the lich as a fighter, and my pawns are too overwhelmed to be able to focus on anything grrrr.

couple of days ago i started hearing the bell sound at the innkeeper in soren. i didn't give him anything, it just happned. maybe i finished some collection quest for him or he is just happy to see a regular.

same for me, i unsheath my daggers all the time in front of him to decrease affinity. but after two ingame days, some storage management and resting, his bells ring again :/

i have 5 people with maximum affinity now. selene, reynard, madeleine, asalam and one more girl, but i don't know who O,o

I heard affinity raises a bit by just talking to them, I wonder who's idea was it to come up with this system, I think it's one of the most hilarious thing they've done in a game since every npc has an affinity counter

Currenty at level 20. Been playing for almost 10 hours.

My mc is a fighter, main pawn is a mage, and the others pawns are a sorcerer and a strider. I'm liking this set up.
Almost ranked out the fighter vocation. I think I'm going to be an assassin now. I want to try out a bow.
Keeping my main pawn as a mage for now.

Really digging the game. But the traveling is facking annoying. Especially after playing Xenoblade. I really don't understand how Capcom could accept this traveling mechanism. It's so tiring and WRONG.

I love to explore, and always using a ferrystone to go back to base camp is an expensive joke. MEH to that.

does anyone know what happens to portcrystals, when going into newgame++? do i have to gather and store them, or do they remain where i placed them?

Do we have to complete the 50 notice board quests in a single playthrough or does it carry over?

Nvm got the trophy.

They remain where you placed them. I had a portcrystal outside Bluemoon Tower, when I entered NG+ it was still there.

Do people get any loot farming the Everfall? I've been doing it for 3 days and have only gotten consumables, plus I missed the ur-dragon kill window and got only consumables from that too :(

Do you have the wyrm, wyvern and drakes tears? I got naff all from Everfall before I picked those up, since then I've got a bunch of awesome new gear.

This was by far the hardest thing I faced in DD because of the respawning hellhounds. Mainly because it was so easy to get knocked down and those damn hellhounds would drag me off every single time. Got so frustrated I was determined to beat it and I probably spent 40+ wakestones before I did. Several times I got in death loops where I'd use a stone and as I was reviving I would get hit by a fireball and a hellhound would drag me off to my death. This was around level 52ish. Was hoping to run into it again at 80 last night when I was wrapping up but never did.

That room is a bitch for sure, far and away the hardest chamber. The nasty part is that if you reload, do the Drake instead in the big arena room, then clear the next section when/if you backtrack through to return those bastards will be respawned and waiting for you! Which is even worse as they aggro on you even more quickly than if you've just entered from the Everfall!

Archhydra is a pushover in comparison; just snipe down the bones and make sure you fight where there's plenty of space to back off into in case he uses a tail-swipe.

-When do I take the quest from Mercedes? I heard one should not take the escort quest in the beginning of the game until doing all the side quests and I assume it's her.

-I'm always overburdened. I know that might sound weird but it's like no matter what I get rid of or sell, 5 minutes out of the gate I'm full again. Whats the secret? I keep crafting stuff but that doesnt really seem to help. I guess my real question is, what should I grab out in the field? Are berries and flowers worth it?

So far it's sorta fun, but i can totally see the potential.

Thanks!

You can take quests from Mercedes up until you defeat the hydra, then accept no more quests from her until you've finished up the job board stuff in The Encampment and Cassardis. Can someone else confirm this? Not 100%.

Distribute your items amongst your pawns if you're finding yourself constantly burdened. Regularly place gathered materials into storage as that's what's taking up most space I imagine. In terms of curatives like herbs and stuff, only take what you think you're going to need then stop collecting. You might want to see about upgrading your gear too as that will decrease their weight with each star added.

Level 31 now. On the quest to hunt down the Griffon. Got through the first part, but now the next part takes place at some tower that is way the fuck into uncharted places on my map. Worse yet, I've gone north hoping to wind around to it, but I just seem to be getting into tougher areas with no signs that the road will eventually bend south toward the tower. Am I going in the right direction? I'm currently in the windy valley area (I think I got that right).
