Ok great, I made the right call with mercedes it seems! :)

Where does one upgrade stuff?

The main city of Gran Soren has a vendor who sells weapons and armor. He'll upgrade your gear if you've got the money and items to do it. You'll get there after you accept Mercedes' escort mission.

Level 31 now. On the quest to hunt down the Griffon. Got through the first part, but now the next part takes place at some tower that is way the fuck into uncharted places on my map. Worse yet, I've gone north hoping to wind around to it, but I just seem to be getting into tougher areas with no signs that the road will eventually bend south toward the tower. Am I going in the right direction? I'm currently in the windy valley area (I think I got that right).

If you've gone through the windy valley you're heading to Bluemoon Tower as that route only leads to one destination. When you reach the top of the tower and have completed your quest you'll find a portcrystal which I would recommend placing right outside Bluemoon Tower so you can teleport back easily.

Thanks dude. One other question: One of my support pawns must have fallen off the cliffs because I've lost them and it gave me no chance to rez them. Is there a rift stone on the way where I can get them back, or should I turn back to Gran Soren? And will I get a ferry stone in the tower? Thanks!

At the entrance of bluemoon tower is a rift stone and east of the wideorn valley at a rest camp.

This was by far the hardest thing I faced in DD because of the respawning hellhounds. Mainly because it was so easy to get knocked down and those damn hellhounds would drag me off every single time. Got so frustrated I was determined to beat it and I probably spent 40+ wakestones before I did. Several times I got in death loops where I'd use a stone and as I was reviving I would get hit by a fireball and a hellhound would drag me off to my death. This was around level 52ish. Was hoping to run into it again at 80 last night when I was wrapping up but never did.

I didn't have an issue with that room as a magic archer. The hellhounds die from one shot of...I don't know the name of the shot, but it's the one where the aiming reticule is blue. It hits them, knocks them down, and then hits them again numerous times. Standard shots completely destroy the liches, but if you dont have ranged with you I don't know how you'd beat them.

I had fun with whoever's pawn was Chie. Sort of looked like Chie too, good shit.

Also Lil'Miss and, er, someone else. But I know at least one of these belongs to a GAFer, so good pawns dudes!

So, umm, is there a way to quick travel? Not complaining, but sometimes it would be nice to skip a lot of LONG WALKS and having to restart because I forget to save.

I'm so pressed for time these days ;_;

Ferrystones teleport you to Gran Soren, the large town. That is the only means of fast travel.

So I get to Gran Soren for the first time, look around a little, see the notice board at the inn, "oh, there's a request from that merchant guy to take him somewhere, sure, I'll do this real quick." Look on the map, "wow that looks a lot farther then I expected...oh well, I'll just run there as fast as I can."

Two and a half hours later, after three restarts (I jumped off a tower by accident and reynard died twice), leaving a trail of corpses including 2 cyclops, 2 chimeras, and an entire army of bandit women, I find a badass flamberge in a chest and finally make it to this place.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS GAME

Do you have the wyrm, wyvern and drakes tears? I got naff all from Everfall before I picked those up, since then I've got a bunch of awesome new gear.

Ooh, wondered what those are about. I think I have 2 tears of different color. Can I get the last one doing Fate chamber all over or do I need to go random wandering?

That's cool.

That's one thing that I feel this game does REALLY, really well. The feeling of travel - the feeling of "getting ready" to go out on an epic journey and even the feeling of desperation when night falls and/or you run into a group of enemies towards the end of a VERY long travel where you've been wittled down.

It's really great the way this feeling is captured, and I suppose the lack of a quick travel option, while annoying, kind of helps develop the world as this giant connected place.

LOVE THIS GAME

You can port back to Gran Soren whenever you like. Eventually you'll be asked to help a group of "elite" soldiers take down a monster. This quest-chain will take you to a particular very far away location but once you've cleared it you'll get a portcrystal which allows you to teleport to it via use of the consumable item ferrystone. You can put the portcrystal anywhere but you only get one until NG+ when you can buy them from the Black Cat for 200K each.

Here is where you get them from:
One from one of the dragons in the Everfall, one from the dragon atop Bluemoon Tower and one from the dragon inside the Watergod's Altar.

I think I already found that item and used it once >_> thinking it was permanent.

Whoa! I have only been to the first place of those and I have 2 tears, but I didn't even know those places have dragons (in post game I guess?). Awesome info, thanks!

You mean the ferrystone? You can buy more from the Black Cat, Fournival has a limited amount for much cheaper too.

Do you have two of the same kind? You need a drake tear, wyvern tear and a wyrm tear. And yeah they only contain dragons in the post-game.

I'd have to go and check to be sure, but I think I have a red tear and a purple tear? I did kill some random dragon near Gran Soren but I'm not sure if it dropped a tear.

This game is making me want to get the official guide but haven't seen it in any shops.

actually, you can get them from any wyrm/wyvern/drake. its a rare drop (guide: 1% when wings destroyed, 5% overall) ... i got 5 wyrm tears, 4 drake tears. killed 23 drakes and 10 wyrms so far. wyvern only 3, so there will be one in the future i guess.

the guide says about the tears, that monster drop different things, when all 3 tears are with you. but all that is different: wakestone drops . nearly every boss monster drops wakestones with a 30-100% chance, depends on the boss (smaller foes drop potions)...

chests will not be affected by the tears (description says also change drops in the everfall). i think changing vocation affects more than that. i switched to ranger and the first chamber i went in gave me all rare equipment i haven't looted to this point...

Oh, hmm. You haven't got the wyvern tear then which is the one on Bluemoon Tower. Might be fun to beat the one in Watergod Altar though as they have unique dialogue.

I've changed between 3 vocations and I haven't gotten any rare equipment yet in the chambers. :(

i played 160 hours, be patient O,o

Oh. (´・ω・`)

a wyvern flies around windbluff tower too, no need to travel far away for killing one.

and i won't say you are wrong, because the guide is not 100% accurate. there are things missing in it and some minor things are not really wrong but also not right ... i think the game is very complex in much things (like the ur-dragon HP-calculation), so like in other games not everything is "known" als long as no dev will clarify it^^

Thanks, I'll try that. Ofc my portcrystal is in Greatwall so it's jog jog jog!

it will come in handy there... later.

i made the same "mistake" in not leaving the portcrystal at bluemoon tower.

first i got there without a quest. there was not much open and so i looted some chestes, turned back home. then i had to go there for griffin's bane. i took the portcrystal with me and soon i had to go again through this effin bandit valley... great times... nowadys i just run or teleport in every corner O,o when i am finished, i will backup my savegame and start over again for the feeling....

First thing I did when starting NG++ was to increase my character's weight. The only negative thing in my last playthrough was my inability to carry a lot of loot which resulted in me wasting a lot of time transferring them to my Pawns.

Btw, NG+ ending was nicely done. Kinda weird that the game still throws something at your way even after playing for 100 + hours.

What happens to the loot that your hired pawns are carrying when you send them back? Do they automatically get sent to your stash? Or are they lost forever?

The game says that they're sent back to storage but I have seen people report that they were missing, say, Wyrmking Rings that their hired pawns had on them.

What? The ending for NG+ is different from the first playthrough?

a particular wandering merchant can enhance your equipment as well, if you've saved him. look for the "enhance" command.
I'm pretty sure I saved him. Where would I find him now?

And what repercussions are there if the NPC Im escorting dies? The dude died at a cyclops on the first escort mission.

This game sure has mysteries. One of mine is this Madeline's shop I hear about. I saw her in first village, gave her the cash, saw her in Gran Soren once and that's it. No shop.

have you finished "chasing shadows"? this quest will lead you to her shop. it's around the black cat. You'll get this quest from mason at the fountain's square.

Ah yeah, might be one of those quests that vanished 'cause I advanced too fast on the main quest. It's kinda late now as (endgame)
the whole district's now a smoking crater.

reynard travels between cassardis, encampment, gran soren and greatwall afair.

if the person dies, he's dead. as long as you don't reload he/she is gone.

i had a wyrmking's ring given to a support pawn for faster spells, as i released her, the ring went into my storage. either i got lucky, or it works as designed for me.

@Carcetti:
okay, that's too late O,o

but madeleine is now beside the field ;)

I screwed up the beginning of the game too. I missed the board full of quest and moved on to Gran Soren (where I missed more quest boards for a while). I went back to the newbie town and saw that I had two escort and other monster quest waiting, but didn't do the escort ones. I guess I should if it leads to more NPCs to trade with?

I also made it to the witch in the woods and didn't not take the herb with me. I suck.

more griffins for me... i feel like in every corner of the map is a chimera ... even on unusual beach in postgame...

i discivered a nice way to heal pawns without resting in an inn... entering the rift heals them...

That's not true actually, Reynard died when I did his escort quest, but he showed up alive and well afterwards.

Just standing next to a riftstone causes your pawns to heal, but in order to get rid of their status effects you need to enter the riftstone. An easy trick to use if they get petrified, especially if you're in the post game dungeon, is to run. Everytime you transition into the next room, their petrification timer resets, so you can actually just run back to the riftstone and cure them that way.

Man, playing as warrior is such a downer. It can do huge damage but so slowly it feels weaker than any of the other classes. 3 more dots to go until it's maxed and I can switch out to something more fun, I'm only doing it for the clout augment. Definitely my least favourite class out of all of them.

Fucking Reynard!? The quest description even has the audacity to refer to him as my 'beloved'. I hate the guy! Seriously considering letting the Dragon have him.

EDIT:

Well.. okay, wow. I get the impression the game really didn't want me to do that.

Yea it doesn't quite have that "smash shit with a HUGE sword" feel :(. It really sucks against stuff like hellhounds that just dodge your swings and then stun you.

Yeah. I was playing a Mystic Knight at the time and couldn't even get any buffs or spells off. Was just constantly juggled. Knocked down by a fireball, dragged off by a wolf, knocked down by a fireball I was standing up, rinse/repeat. I pretty much only bring out MK for Ur-Dragon fights now since I fell in love with the Assassin vocation.

Actually I find the mystic knight the single most overpowered class. Ruinous sigil is very fast, and protects you while you do your slower casts. So normally after that I plonk down 2-3 casts of great cannon, and then simply full moon slash away. All the shots are homing, and can be enchanted for different effects.

Whenever I play warrior I spend most of my time jump attacking, and using corona slash. Corona slash topples most normal enemies in a single hit, and has incredible range. I love the meaty feeling of the hits, but gets frustrating on the fast enemies.
