Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Okay, so I took another stupid escort quest like an idiot. These have to be the worst things in the game. Is there any way to get to the Shadow Fort without
alerting the dragon?

Yes very easily. You don't have to engage it at all on your way to the Shadow Fort. If you're coming from Cassardis stick close to the Mountain side and follow the road. Do not go into the denseness you will be destroyed. If you're coming from Gran Soren you can use the Quarry.

Finally got my pawn to pretty much where I want him after maxing out all vocations. Decided I'd have him set as a ranger. He's currently using the "Noble Limbs" longbow, there's gotta be a better one than that right?

I was about to ask when this starts getting tough but then that cyclops near the military camp at the beginning of the game 2 shotted me. I really wish there was a block or at least a roll button for every class.

I took him down easily my second try though.

There's a lot of hidden things that seem to determine what escort side quests you get. There's an escort quest listed in the guide that supposedly appears after you meet the duke to escort 'someone' to a place and you will get the dragon band. I've played through the game twice and both times I have slightly different escort quests but this one still never popped up.

Ingle? I always figured it was best to spam higher-tier spells like Bolide. Are there any numbers floating around?

Sorry for the late reply, I just woke up. I mean best because it's a very fast, homing, long ranged, low level spell that knocks down and has splash damage. Also almost everything before tainted mountain is weak to fire. I can forsee myself almost relying solely on it for a solo mage/sorc.

So far the mage solo has been pretty tricky... I got absolutely freakin' owned in the well. And even the early gob-mobs are able to swarm you. It's very challenging so far. You have to be really careful not to draw too many toward yourself. Fortunately, as an unforeseen bonus, playing solo means you can actually buff your own weapon. So having the fire enchantment on the staff has been very helpful.

You can buff yourself even with pawns, when you're casting the buff, click the LS.

Oh really? Huh... pretty sure I tried this once and it didn't work. Must have messed it up. I use L3 for most of the magic too.

Anyway, good to know, thanks.

Do you know if you can charge your staff while levitating? I can imagine running away from most fights actually.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
I was fighting an armored cyclops on a cliff side path last night when I managed to get him to stumble off and fall to his death by breaking his armor.

Pretty sure that's been the best "Holy shit this game" moment so far.

Having some serious issues getting my pawn hired by players though (Maxed Strider and now Ranger with Scather/Gaurdian inclinations). All I usually get is the pity gifts and RC that Capcom hands out. Anyone with a Strider/Ranger out there have any tips for making my pawn better?

so about arrows with status effects, Is there any way to tell which one works on a monster or not beforehand? I was fighting that drake thingy that uses magic in everfall, silencer arrows actually worked on it though for a short time, now I imagine if I shoot the Goat's head on the GoreChimera it will stop healing for a while? or is it immune? gonna try this next time, I have lots of trouble fighting those still :\

and

any tips for the Hydra? I die so fast here :|

I was grabbing over an Ogre, he jumped off the cliff himself and killed us both :|

Well. Just finished my first playthrough, and, that ending...

Very, very, good. No question about it, one of the best RPG's this gen.

Actually if you have a bow, spamming lots of arrows when the chimera goat casts a spell knocks it out of the animation. Different enemies have different resistances against different status effects. Most of the time if the enemy has some lengthy charge up animation scoring rapid hits will knock them out of it.

Climb the necks of the hydra, cut them off, and burn the cut off parts.

I am a lvl 10 strider with buyers remorse. I haven't progressed very far in the story yet, am i close to being able to change jobs to a wizard? I've only been to two places so far, the starting town and fort.

Also, i wish there were fast travel :p

also like below, i'm going to accumulate a ton of stuff/junk in my trunk.

I'm already pretty stacked with items. My strider is teetering on heavy weight load and my other 3 pawns all have around 30-50% weight load. I've been exploring like crazy and I guess they're picking up everything they find, but it's usually useful stuff anyway. I just haven't had much of a chance to use anything yet because everything either kills me in 1-2 hits or I kill it before it touches me.

Game is ok so far but nothing amazing...but I'm still really early in. I just recently unlocked the other 2 pawn slots and haven't really progressed too far from that area. Too much exploring :D

Just beat it beat it.

GOTY.

I bitched out of most of the final dungeon because I have other games coming in so NG+ will have to wait but man...what a ride.

Capcom, you dun good.

Now more of this and less shenanigans.

There is fast travel, eventually. When you get to Gran Soren, you'll start learning about it. That's also where you can change vocations. You get to Gran Soren after escorting the
hydra head
from the fort.

Yeah, when you get to Gran Soren you'll be able to change vocations. Minimum is level 10; the quest to get to Gran Soren is started to talking to Mercedes.

Witchwood is such an amazing place. The atmosphere is fantastic. If the game had a lot more areas like that along with more enemies (small ones), I'd pretty much rate it above all the RPGs released this gen.

Oh and after 110 hours, I just got the Platinum trophy :D So satisfying.

So what happens to the items in a pawn's inventory when I dismiss them? Gone forever? This particular pawn I'm ditching isn't a player one I don't think, it's the one that joined me when I left the starting village.

Everything that you haven't "given" to the pawn goes to item storage when they're dismissed.

So if you equip something on the pawn, you're giving that to the other player... but otherwise... anything they pick up or you have them hold onto will go to storage.

Rook? I'd say that was the most intelligent Pawn I've met so far. But yeah, if you dismiss them, everything ends up in your storage. If you equip another player created pawn with a weapon or armor, the game tells you that you will lose it forever.

Ok so basically just un-equip any gear I may have them wear. That's good to know ahead of time. This guy was just carrying a ton of items for me though so I guess it's all safe.

edit: err ok so the gear's gone for good. That's also good to know before I plop down 6k on new gear lol.

Nope. If you equip something on a pawn (that isn't your pawn) you're giving that to the other player, and it's gone forever.

But yeah, they can carry anything you want.

Jesus christ I find a quest giver to rest for the night and I'm attacked by a goddamn

So I just made it to the post-game.

The path splits here, so I want to be doubly sure of which will take me to my destination of completing this game. Now, are the monsters in the fields weaklings still or will they hold the advantage? I tried The Everfall (underneath Gran Soren, the beating heart of all Gransys), and although there is strength in numbers, I am losing my head. I'm almost to the point of becoming mad with rage, but alas with all the masterworks in my inventory, I feel like I can't go wrong at least trying to push through the Everfall.

I'd imagine one would never grow tired of this game, but I just have no idea where to start.

That wasn't really a fight. Make sure you visit Cassardis again to get some quests. After each main story mission, a lot of side-quests are unlocked which can be easily missed.

Yesterday i wrote my pawn gets barely hired, since she is high level... Actually she brought 380k home over night.

But, she returned with a Guardian Inclination >_< as a Ranger. So i switched her back to Challenger/Scather... She is great, took out a Golem almost by herself!

Yeah I chased some guy back to the village and got into the well. Nasty fights in there but I managed to get through it ok. These fights happen way too quickly to do any kind of planning though.

Wow, this game opened up again like crazy. I finally went to see the Duke and I am stocked with quests again from NPCs, and stocked with notice board quests.

So amazing, I went to the Witchwood
because some villagers decided it was pitch fork time for Selene, got a crazy story moment there
.

Picked up the 5 flowers I needed from the Witchwood, stopped in at Cassardis and Valmiro has me on an errand and I don't have all the supplies with me, so I visited the notice board took an escort quest to the Shadow Fort and at the same time used the trip and went below and got the Silver Idol. I'm so excited now I can't wait to see what gear I get.

I love when this game comes together like this, despite all of its flaws it is hands down in the elite of RPGs.

Witchwood is such an amazing place.

Witchwood you say? I have you covered. Witchwood mixed with Ogre climb from another location.

Witchwood and Wilted forest are my favourite locations. Actually the game world is a lot bigger than it seems when you truly explore every nook and cranny.

I actually forgot how good the game looked in some places after spending 40 odd hours in post-game. Sunlight, you beautiful sunlight, never ever fade.
