Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

I'm lvl 14 and started on a long random escort mission, one of the first from the big town place. Things did not go well....it got dark and i got destroyed fairly quickly, got 3/4ths of the way to the goal on a long journey and ended up fully retreating.

Just stick to the roads when you are escorting and try to run away from unnecessary combat.

At which level the dragon near the Rest Camp is doable?Seems impossible at my current level (35) even though i managed to get him down to 4 health bars before i quited. And the damn goblins nearby are very annoying.

I've read that it's entirely possible to take him down at your level. I attempted it a few times when I was around level 40, but I always forgot to bring enough curatives with me for the fight. At this level, it's kinda like a war of attrition. You either have enough curatives to see you through this fight, or you run out of them mid-fight and it wipes you out.The Drake stops being a threat around level 50 so you might just wait and level up a bit.

Ah thanks.I've so many other things to do in the game so i think i'll return to him much later.

I beat him around level 25 or so.

The key is going to have good archery skills.

My character is a fighter, haven't even touched any other vocation. And my rented ranger pawn kinda sucked at that fight. :/
In my experience, having pawns as archers never works. The AI just isn't built to understand what to hit. In fact, there's one optional boss fight where if you don't have arrows yourself, you're never going to win. The pawn will just keep attacking the wrong thing.

If you're insistent on staying as a fighter, the best bet is to cling underneath his heart and stab away.

My suggestion, though, is to go Assassin and rock a sword/bow combo, which will give you access to both sword skills (such as Gouge, which is really useful if you can grab the right parts of monsters) and arrow skills that fire a bunch of arrows in a burst.

Post pics. Show don't tell. I'm an assassin too and have an idea how I want him to look but I have never encountered high level or mid-high-level gear atleast not yet, I'll see what Claxton spawns after this idol.

All I know is I want my Pawn to look a knight but without the ugly emblems on the collar, like either Jaqen H'ghar or Loras Tyrell.

How's this? Not the best quality shot of the equipment though.

Assassin & Mage, the only end game loot my assassin is wearing is the dark lorica and the dark over knee boots.

Just started this, rolling around the beach town at the moment. Looooooving the feel of the combat.

But, hold on, no lock-on?

Also, I pretty much started with my guy looking like Guts, from Berserk. Can I get the armor too?

God's had his chance.
So I just practiced for an hour + with clairvoyance in the everfall and i've noticed a few things:
- So first things first... countering big ass monsters is fucking rock solid. Managed to counter the chimera (easy) ogre (easy as pie) and a drake (not so easy... the head side to side snapping bite is the one i managed to counter). It feels fucking great to time it just right and shrug some serious hits off and then proceed with the attack. 100% offensive just like I like it ....
-BUT- the counter attack itself doesn't seem to be doing huuuge damage. I couldn't really tell if the damage was good and i just wasn't thinking properly about the amount of life the monsters might have but... i dunno. Maybe gouge is just spoiling me. I'm considering just keeping a good shield on me if i want to play counters hard. I know you can perfect block and stagger monsters with the shield... correct?

What kind of damage do you all get on say... a chimera ... with the counter? I catch the lion in the face everytime... but perhaps I needed to kill off the goat and snake first? Counters on the daggers - full out attack on the sword - hard defense on the shield - ranged with the bow (obviously) ... i'm going to tailor all this together and keep my weight down enough to take all the equipment with me I'd ever need. Should be tits...

if anyone wants to record a video of rocking counters all over Gransys ... that'd be shweet as well.

It's fairly expensive but you can get it pretty early in the grand scheme of things. Save your pennies and keep an eye out for Quarry ... it'll be a mission to clear out an underground path. Once you finish this the man who gives you the mission will take up residence inside and open a shop. Bam. Guts armor...

and no lock on. Trust me... it's a good thing.

Sorry if it has been asked already but how are the dlc quest ?

- are they for high levels players ?
- how are the rewards ?
- are they fetch quest ( kill x Ennemy ) or are they like the quest given by town people ?

They are pretty pointless, both in the actual quest and with regards to the rewards.

The latest DLC gives you oil based weapons from noticeboard quests that are VERY weak and some armor that heals in the sun(basically a re-skin of existing armor).

So yea, pretty much a pass so far. I might pick it up if they offer a pack with everything once it's all been released, but otherwise I personally don't think it's worth it.

I bought a helm for my Pawn with a visor on it. When I'm in town she puts the visor up so you can see her face.

When in combat or out an about, she puts the visor down.

This is such a cool touch of detail that I'm sort of in awe by it. In most games that same helm with the visor would be in a static up or down position.

I should add - I absolutely love these little details in DD - in almost every fight so far there's been little things that you just do not see many other RPG's do. There's just so much more interactivity in combat instead of just hit X to swing a sword.

i clearned the game. this is like the best game ever. i don't think we'll get anything better this year.

now on to gather the remaining trophies. i can't believe i've been playing this game so long already.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
There's a pawn on XBL named Invincible that is ranked number one and is level infinity(literally shows the symbol). Uh...what the hell.

That simply means the Pawn has reached the level cap i.e 200.

It's garbage. Avoid.

It's hacked. There's a lot of people hacking their characters. You can tell when they're wearing stuff that cannot be obtained in-game, like the abyssinal outfit, duke's outfit and dragonforged jewellery.

I saw them on the PS3 too, but that's unfortunate if true.

I believe if you gift the merchant at The Greatwall a bunch of Harspud Sauces to the point where he blushes at the very sight of you he will start selling the Divine Surcoat along with some other extras. I think it's the Divine Surcoat anyway.

How do I gift to merchants. I actually ran up to one & pressed X & that just hit him & he ran away.
Did I just miss my queue for the prompt?

Also stuff like charms & stuff that in the description mentions getting more gold, experience or loot, are they consumables that last temporarily or do they permanently increase you getting those?

On THE VERY FIRST dialogue box when you talk to someone, hit X (360) or Square (PS3) to give them items. Keep in mind, you must have a giftable item, so Greenwarish won't work, but Harspud Juice or Sauce (whatever the two more expensive ones) will.

You can also just buy things from Reynard and immediately sell them back. You'll take a loss, but over time, it works.

Hitting them or picking them up lowers their affinity for you. Giving them an Arisen's Bond (gotten from a notice board quest, I believe) gives you really high affinity, but I wouldn't give that to anyone you don't want to be your love interest.

Ok..how do I finish the last boss? He
keeps just sitting there with no health and doing wind bursts every now and then. Then comes after me. I dunno how to finish him.
=/

EDIT: Nvm... >_<

The charms are temporary.

Well I finally made it to the end-game, so that's where they were hiding all the monsters. I ended up missing out on a few quests mainly because I felt way too overlevelled around midgame and wanted stronger enemies to fight. But flicking through the last page or so I see I managed to pick up a few that others missed so i'm not to upset, saves me something to do in ng+.

Although I do have some nitpicks and it wouldn't quite make it to best game ever for me, I agree with the above bolded.

If they just had better quest design and established some more intriguing lore early on, I think this game would have gotten a lot more praise in the media.

It really does feel like they wrote the main scenario/story, and the boss fights, and handed them to another team and tell them to spread them across the game in a really weird fashion, and then another team and telling them to mass produce a bunch of quests, there are a lot of inconsistencies throughout.

I'm hoping I'll enjoy RE6 and Assassin's Creed more. It was a good game but the severe lack of story and things to push me forward kinda killed things for me. After post game started and I got to Gran Soren, I felt tired of it all and no longer wanted to go on after finishing an Ur Dragon.

I'm just gonna consider this game a base for the sequel for them to improve in all areas. Though combat is great, the enemy types left a lot to be desired. I don't really see me playing this again, so I'm probably gonna sell it while it's still worth something.

I'm currently using Assassin and I'm really missing the skill Dragon's Maw from the Fighter Class.

Personally I don't think any skill can compare in terms of damage output, usage and efficiency. If assassin had it, it would probably be the best class in the game.

Nah, it's simply level 200. You'll notice it goes to 199 and then it switches to the infinity symbol.

Wait until you get Masterful Kill.

Got to to the final boss with a character I LOVED (and a meh Main Pawn) and realized I was under leveled.

Created my new two dudes (well, my girlfriend created them, brother/sister fighters), and ready to start the whole adventure again.

This time going to do more quests and be patient. And see the endgame and ending! 20 wakestones here I come (whatever that means)!

This thread is awesome too. Great place to see what else others are up to in this sandbox.

Good times.

I'm at the end of NG+ and I still need 96 more unique weapons/armor for the well equipped trophy. How am I supposed to get that many more? It sounds like a lot, I don't think all the vendors have 96 things I haven't bought... could they?

Ur-Dragon Gen 69 is down for the count! Go get your loot!

Oh good, maybe I can get in on this this time. I worked that dragon pretty good, but I gave up when people kept healing it :(

Also, it's incredibly hard to damage some of its weakpoints when there aren't many left, like the ones on its chin and wings

Tomat

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
Is there any consequence for rushing through the story quests?

I'm almost 20 hours in and I haven't done a lot of the notice board quests. I'm to the point though where I want to start getting in on the Ur-Dragon action and stuff, so I've started to do chain story quests.

Getting pretty fed up with dying on this escort quest I got from the inn in the big city. My first few tries was my fault as I kept traveling up the roads even on night and a goddamn Chimera came out of nowhere. So I waited close by for day and now I'm being wiped out by bandits. The thing is I can take the first group of 5 or so with a few white wolves no problem, but a mere 50 feet ahead is their camp that I have to go close to for the escort and they're apparently unkillable for my level. Why does the difficulty swing so much in such tiny areas?

As for combat I'm still not sure how I feel about it. Maybe it's because I only have a few abilities but it feels almost like a button masher sometimes. Like I'm hitting square and triangle almost as much as I do in dynasty warriors. So far on the more basic enemies at least there's no real way to be strategic unless your pawns finally decide to be useful.

Also the pop in is goddamned atrocious and inexcusable. I was strafing as far around that bandit camp as I could and all of a sudden a group of 4 literally just appeared right in front of my group, alerting the whole damn camp.

When you're fighting enemies that severely outnumber or overlevel you it becomes just as much about having the resources to heal yourself and keeping your pawns alive as it is about straight up fighting. The only classes that can really go all out in combat are the Assassin, Magic Knight and Fighter IMO, they've got enough blocks and counters that fighting with them allows some level of strategy. I'm just now figuring out in the
post-game
that this game is incredibly unbalanced and the only way to even the odds is to level past the encounters.

The combat in this game isn't nearly as well thought out and refined as something like Dark Souls, where skill and attention can get you through pretty much any encounter unhurt. Which I think is really disappointing seeing as this is the same team that brought us DMC. Personally, I think the game could have benefited heavily from having a lock-on system.

I still love the game, but if you're having too much trouble, just either buy a bunch of healing items to spam during the fight, or go level up a bit and come back later.
