Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

The Duke was a failed Arisen, IIRC. I thought that made him more interesting. I think that's also why your Pawns aren't allowed in the castle - must be bad memories for the Duke. :p
I thought they said he had killed it once but was too weak now. Or did he ask the Dragon for immortality?

There's a little backstory for him here.

The Duke thing was pretty interesting for a while, especially when you go into the Duchess' chamber at night. The whole thing was a bit underdeveloped. Even if they expanded on that a little more, like giving you more personal quests, the story would have been good considering the crazy ending.

I thought it was developed as much as was neccessary, in hindsight his actions (past and present) make sense. Talking with Feste when he's sat on the throne is a nice bit of foreshadowing too.

All the necessary information is there, you just need to reassemble the mosaic.

The spoilered bit in that recap linked above is wrong I'm pretty sure.
You see Selene's Arisen at the end of her story, and she is definitely not Edmun. I got the impression that Ser Maximillian is Edmun's pawn, which is why you also never see him inside the castle

how the hell do I make a pawn drink elixir. I bought some and they are in his items but when I click use it says "you may not use the pawn's item". How is he meant to drink it?

So can any generic NPC be your love interest in the game? Suppose I gave the old lady in Cassardis that sells cloth tons of flowers that the Cassardi females liked, what would happen?

hey,

i'm currently working through my backlog, but i want to get to this game eventually

how long will the pawn system be active and worthwhile
(i'm gauging how quickly i need to get to this game)

I was dragging ass from the Shadow Fort (just finished the goblin fight quest there) at night when a fucking Dragon comes out of nowhere, literally his mouth jumps out the darkness, then this "Ambush" quest starts up. I fight for a little, then hightale it out of there. What the fuck was all that about? Can't find that failed quest in my log either.

embrace it...

Today I woke and looked outside again
But the sky looked the same to me
Something told me that this world had changed
Couldn't figure out what did it mean

Some say to get out fast, looks like it's gonna last
Get all your things and fly (DON'T LEAVE NOTHING BEHIND)
Some said it'll be OK, just go ahead and stay
Be sure to drink your iodine

The wind is pushing me, into the clouds again
I feel the blood in my veins
Time is running free, I feel like letting go
Just like the Dangan

Staring out to the hourglass inside
My mind is racing and wild
Blinded by eyes that cover up the facts
Uncertainty with all the cracks in a smile

I'm breathing life or death, are we making progress?
Not really sure this time (THE CHOICE IS YOURS AND MINE)
Not sure what to do next, no real test reflex
Can't touch or see with my own eyes

The wave is pushing me, into the current again
I feel the blood in my veins
Time is running free, I feel like letting go
Nothing to slow me down
Dragon inside of me, I feel it letting go
I can't hear not a sound
Flying into free, I hit the mother lode
I am the Dangan

The wave is pushing me, into the current again
I feel the blood in my veins
Diving into free, can feel it letting go
Not gonna hit the ground
The sky is painted free, why can't we understand
We kill ourselves in the end
It's simple as one, two, three, it's written in the sand
We are the Dangan

Flying
Flying
Flying
Flying into free
Flying into free

you know it feels good

thanks for the lyrics ... it's been days and i'm still not tired of this music/theme yet ..

Well, it sold 92k in the US and at 400k in Japan now. The online Pawn sharing should be active in terms of players for awhile. Besides, all Pawn info is stored on Capcom's servers anyway so there will always be Pawns to choose from to tailor to your needs.

Ambush quests are basically "Fuck, giant monster" quests. You gain money and experience if you complete them and lose nothing if you just run away. They don't count toward the Hero achievement (except for one giant monster quest and that has a different name) and don't count as failed quests.

The monster you ran in to is the Drake and he hangs out around the Shadowfort.

Son of a, forgot to bring the gransys herb to Selene, and Maul didn't give me the badge quest, was thinking of doing them all at once with Quina's quest :(

Pictures of my progress so far! Killed some stupid Saurians when I arrived at Gran Soren, went back and did the Quina quest at Cassardis and the Grimoire quest, now hanging out at encampment

I think the hate part of the love/hate relationship finally won out. Most likely going to trade this tomorrow towards Steam stuff I guess since the sale is right around the corner.

I'm not even having dying problems anymore it's mostly just boredom now. I was never crazy high on the combat system and this game literally has nothing else to it. It out-generics most AA euro WRPGs in every other area. It was a bold attempt by Capcom but they failed horribly so better luck next time. I'm actually pretty bummed out that I don't like this because out of the first half of this year this was probably my most wanted game.

I just picked up the game. Wassup with the japanese style rock music in the intro? lol So doesnt fit the setting. Anyways, so far its fu, the combat is fantastic and the graphics.... well they are ok for what it is doing. Large open areas, something has to give. This only makes me want this gen to end already. These consoles are just too dated, more than any other gen before it. Hopefully, this is just as good as Dark Souls.

I'd say the plotting is where DD fails. There's very little and what's there can come off/feel obtuse. The ending and the actual framework of the story are well conceived.

is there additonal story for his escort quest? i don't want to max. his affinity if i don't have to. he wants to go to the greatwall after i revived him.

ah, that's a nice theory.

Start a fresh game. Play without any pawns. It changes the entire game completely. You'll actually need to use curatives, and to play carefully and tactically. Every food item you find, you will learn to cherish. And you will also learn that moldy vegetables are always better than fresh ones. Each large monster fight becomes a challenge to figure out what tools you have will best suit the task. No pawns constantly jabbering in your ear means you can actually hear the enemies at night way before you can see them. Every careless sprint will cost you dearly, even sprinting right into a wolf ambush just outside of Cassardis is certain death.

Damn you just secured my second playthrough.

Oh well, although i vehemently disagree with your opinion about it being generic, it clearly isn't for you. thanks for contributing though.

Once you do all the side-quests you receive a lot more information, but I wish it was all tied to the main quest line. For example, a lot of people can miss the 'Duchess in Distress' quest on their first playthrough and keeping something good as that optional makes no sense to me. If someone rushes through the game, they should at least get a proper idea of what exactly is happening, and in Dragon's Dogma it just feels like they threw in a bunch of random quests which involves a lot of killing.

And yeah, I also kinda thought it was Maximillian.

I wonder if giving the Arisen's Bond to the Duke, or Feste (lol), can make them your love interest?

The Duke was
the Arisen before you. When the Dragon gave him the choices, Dukie decided to sacrifice the one he loved most.

Shit, so I did one quest before another and now I can't go back and save Quina. Whatever, I like Mercedes more.

Poor Quina probably got eaten by the wolves that hunts in packs :(

Oh one thing I learned last night was that the Sith Lord guy speak to you if you return to Cassardis before fighting the hydra

... I think, or maybe right after I can't remember

:( now I'm scared that I'll have to deal with weight and inventory a lot, I try to drop things off and pick up things I need

but man being small is nice, I dashes around a lot in battles, and sometimes it's good to see enemies misses me when I failed to block quickly

I think I might go mystic knight, never played it before, having some magic would be nice, it seems that the 3 hybrid classes all have really useful abilities and augments

Mystic knight and assassin are the best vocations in the game imo, get that augment that lets you perfect block easier from the fighter vocation and let your block spells rip!

Yeah I'll definitely give that a try, make blocking useful!

And I must admit I notice the awesome background music and ambient sound a lot more without the pawns telling me the goblins ill like fire

I fell into this a few weeks back as well and promptly traded it off to Amazon

Amazing combat, boring as balls world/story/quest structure

I wanted to love DD soooo much too T___T

"oh it's an adventure game!" is a meaningless statement to me. It was fun adventuring out THE FIRST TIME to destinations, not over and over again. Instead of an "adventure", it's just a joyless time sink to kill the same bandits/wolves/harpies to get to the same locations you already went to several times.

Fuckin' A

I don't think there's a way to make your pawns use an item. The only thing you can do is use an elixir that affects the whole party.

I disagree with you of course. I do use ferrystones when i need to return to gran soren and i do try to align my travel destinations to make things a little easier, but the problems persist that a few extra port crystals at map intersections would solve.

They should've made it there's a portal that takes you a an arena before your destination that introduces stronger and stronger enemies (or some puzzles) the more you use the portal. That way you can take the portal or just walk.

Noooooooooooooooo my worst nightmare just happened :(

I'm in post game, level 42 ... 47 hours in and I get a corrupt save on my 360, after not working the game just asks you so nonchalantly, do you want to delete the corrupt save and start a new game ............ a new fuc^%$ game after 47 hours, no I do not want a new fuck@!@ game ...... :(

I have 1 thing that could help me, my wife is also playing the game, she has just defeated the Griffin and is about level 34 and her save game is working ok .... but we are playing on the same 360. I have tried to copy and move to my profile but it won't let me ..... Is there any way I can copy her save, take it off my 360 then, put it back on my 360 on my profile !??

Please someone help :(

Anyone know what the total number of locations is in the game? (check history) I'm at 188, which seems a bit of an odd number to finish at.

That said I keep finding new areas I've managed to miss before! The DLC quests are quite helpful for finding stuff as they do send you into obscure corners of the world. Only done a few, anyone been keeping up?

Its a bit silly that there are locations in which enemies don't spawn, but you still can't skip the wait till morning. I've just escorted
Quina to Prayer Falls
and am waiting in
The Abbey
for morning to come so I can make my way back to my priority quest objective
