Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Also has an incredibly boring story until the last 20% of the game.

I honestly can't see the difference between Dragon's Dogma and the Souls' games in regards to story. Their both very combat-orientated ARPG's so the story is kind of left on the fringes until the climax. Its there, but really very little is actually required to get through to the end.

I mean if you break it down:
The game guides you to Gran Soren with only a single mandatory quest (escorting Ser Mercedes following the tutorials at the encampment, then you get the set-piece at the pawn guild which unlocks the Wyrm hunt quests, of which you need to do only 2 to get to have an audience with the Duke. After that you have a set of (technically 7) event quests to introduce some 3 major "dungeon" set-pieces, then you're off to face the dragon.
. Its very speed-runnable because so much of the content is optional.

About to pull the trigger on this one. Help me decide! PS3 or 360? I hate screen tearing and the frame drops didn't bother me too much in the PS3 demo, but the 360 does look a tinsy-bit nicer (or maybe it doesn't?)

Made the journey to Blood Water Beach and placed my Port Crystal behind the tents there. I equated it, that coming from Gran Soren the distance to Blue Moon Tower or Female Bandit Fort is not an unbearable distance. However no matter the distance from Cassardis to Blood Water, or worse Gran Soren to Blood Water, its just an annoying part of the map to get to.

After dropping off the Port Crystal headed back up for my first confrontation with the Drake. What in all of the world?! Was he trying to
possess
my Pawns? He also did a move that instantly killed all of them. I'm LvL 57 and he was pretty tough. I lost a considerable amount of life, but my main Pawn stood up to him fairly well. It also didn't help that a Goblin horde decided to aid the Drake, but they were also being destroyed by his breath.

After a grueling fight I ferry stoned it out of there. Now to find Salomet.

Random images incoming.

This.

Sharing pawns is quite fun, so go with whatever system you have the most bros on.

Finally decided on a look to hold me over until some(hopefully) land/enemy dlc drops:

I'm settling in on that range too. It's a fantastic first entry in what I hope becomes a series, but it needs some work in some areas. The major one is having a story that makes you want to explore and having some difficulty spikes along the way. Pawns aren't terrible, but I still would rather have either co-op or fleshed out side characters. The combat is great, the atmosphere and world are really top notch.

I'd rate this game about 8.5/10. Performance issues and variety in encounters, environments and towns bring the score down for me. Overall, I logged in so many hours in this game and kept me engaged. Oh yeah, it's definitely my GotY so far.

If there is a sequel ( unlikely ) I hope there is a choice, because I actually like the Pawn system. My RPG time is a very solitary, time absorbing, enjoyable experience. I don't want to wait on someone to do a quest, or have someone waiting on me while I buy all the pants max them out and compare the stats just because I can. Or some asshole runs off and triggers part of the quest kills something and I miss it, an item or such.

I don't think I would have even bought this game if it had co-op. Co-op is one of the new industry buzzwords that just makes me shit myself at how stink the trend has become.

Also for me a 7.5 or 8.5 game IS GOTY ( so far ) for me. I rate games extremely harder than the usual. So I would give DD and 8.0 and its the clear GOTY for me so far.

I think it's also a rare 2% drop from the Sulfur or Neo Saurians. Also, try completing the Duchess in Distress quest.

It's not, it's in a very specific spot in the river close to the north bank, halfway between the prayer falls and gran soren. It shows up as ripples in the river, you have to search that spot to pick it up. Pawns will automatically pick it up for you.

I've had many random friend requests from people all over the world so they could use my lvl 140 pawn!

I'm settling in on the 6.0-6.5 scale as I don't think this game has anything new to offer in terms of excitement or frustration. I'm starting to feel like I've experienced everything good and bad so I'm just on the path to finishing it now.

So, after a month since it's release, how and where does GAF place Dragon's Dogma, this generation?

I don't know what GAF Hive thinks, but I'd give it a disappointing 7. It does a lot right, but also does a lot terribly wrong. If there's a sequel, I would hope they'd learn from their mistakes and the game would be a huge improvement. As for the generation it's not in my top 10.

I have high hopes for the sequel (please be a sequel).

8.5 for me.

Loads of fun to explore the world, love the epic fights and the beautiful monster animations and dynamic reactions. Amazing post-game, fun quests, great and varied combat. Lots I'm still discovering in NG+, and enjoying every moment.

Could use more towns, dungeons and world variety.

I don't know how some of you played this for 3 times, NG+ is very boring z_z . only need the 350 pieces of armor and weapon thing and then I'm done with this game forever

maxed out strider, fighter, assassin and ranger and rank-6 magic archer. I think I've seen enough. really enjoyed that first playthrough, nothing like it elsewhere. if only they could put more variety in the world, with different weathers etc, and more difficult monsters on the map it could have lasted a lot longer.

I couldnt make it through NG+ once. It was so damn boring. They really dropped the ball with the difficulty.

I just went through Soulflayer Canyon for the first time and found the Snakeskin Purse in there. It must have been a drop from a Sulfur Saurian. It was a nice unexpected surprise.

If there is no sequel to this game, it'll be a travesty.

Dragon's Dogma may have an underwhelming name, but damn if it isn't the most engrossing thing I've played in... years? Yes, maybe years.

My hands are painful claws as I type, so much have I been playing this game. I've got to be two or three dozen hours in, and I'm still discovering new techniques and seeing new things. The sense of exploration is pretty incredible, the pawn system is a revelation, and I'm having oh-so-much fun taking amazing photos!

Crazy thing is, I have a feeling there's so much more of the game yet to go. For which I am glad, because I'm enjoying nearly every minute of this.

Simply wonderful.

How do you check how many hours you have spent playing? I know you can check how long someone else has been playing by looking at their pawn in owner info...but how do I check myself?

agreed 100%.

There really is no install for the PS3 version?

I read a comment on the DF analysis that said the game slowly installs iteself over the first few hours. Is this true? What does it say under game data for you ps3 players?

This being capcom... whatever sequel we get (assuming we get one despite abysmal oversea sales) will probably be far different from what we got here. :/

Weird how they still havent updated to account for that.

Did you notice an improvement in performance? Has anyone who is far into the game done a test where they deleted it and observed it until it hits that amount?

I've played the game on a few different PS3s and I always notice a drop in performance when moving from the PS3 I normally play on to one that has yet to fully install the game. (Such as lots of pop-in and lower framerate)

I think my PS3 having a 7200rpm HDD also reduces pop-in quite a bit

Getting a weapon that has an enchantment was pretty crucial, but most of the time, I run like hell. And I also carry that curative that gets rid of possession.

A little? I'm not far in the game though. I thought it didn't have an install either but then I was really impressed to see that the game data had grown to 4+ gigs of data. I tried deleting it and sure enough on the next boot up it checks the available disk space to see how much it can install. It caps out at 4627 megs, I think. There's a little extra chug I guess, but really I'm not sure if you'd really notice it. Then again I bought a 7200RPM drive with a 32MB cache so I'm no totally sure how much of that is making of a difference.

I'm pretty sure it is. As I said above, I've noticed a difference when moving to other PS3s with slower drives.

Just replayed both demos on ps360 again twice. I settled on the 360 version. Now all that's left is for me to beat my dam gamefly rental before my purchase. Too many times I have bought a game on a whim while the game I have out sits unloved, unplayed, costing me money as I refuse to return it because I still want to beat it. If I am lucky, maybe I will get DD through game fly and buy it that way. I was burned my last 3 game purchases as they went on sale the following week somewhere. I'm surprised I held out this long because I have been following this thread closely for a while despite not owning it. Loved the impressions and screenshots.

The performance on ps3 is fucking weeeeird, there are times where absolutely nothing is happening and it would feel laggy, as if there's a virus scan running in the background.

it took me a while to figure it out as I launched the damn thing five days ago but infamous 2 background turtle downloading is worse than doing a virus scan and a defrag at the same time.

Autosave is the dumbest shit in this game. Stupid game wants to save every damn time I sleep at an inn. It takes forever when I spam sleep to get to the 7th day.

Set connectivity to offline in the options menu if you need to spam sleep. It's not autosaving, it's syncing or whatever with the servers.
