gender shouldn't be a problem afair (there is a trophy for womans clothes on a male pawn...). vocation should be a problem though, berserkerin is mage/sorcerer only iirc.

I have to vent just a bit, level 13 and after two hours I found myself right back were i started after two defeats.

Round 1: Got an escort mission for the female Captain who helped me take the Hydra to Grand Soren, after a lot of wandering we got towards her destination and just got outlasted by bandits.

Round 2: Need to recover grimoire, there are two locations marked on my map, I take the northern one since I hadn't explored there yet. Kill the Chimera and cyclops, pretty epic fights. Make it to the bandit encampment and get destroyed by the female bandit leader and her many many friends.

I like the open ended ness here but am I just pushing into territories that require me to be a higher level too soon?

Edit: I'm a sorcerer and my main pawn is a fighter. Equipment is okay, some upgrades.

Vacation is fine, the gender is a problem, there are few items in the game that are gender specific and only woman can wear them, there is no way to put them on the male pawn ;)

The woman set however will work for either as it's the item necessary for a bandit quest if you are a male character ;)

ah, okay, i never tried it because i switched gender after the first playthrough and the whole party is female now (also because of ophis...)

@Dorrin:

try the escort quest as soon as possible in the morning. and don't go near the mountain cottage! (try to finish all cassardis quests first, before you do the hydra head escort).

the grimoire is in the southern castle, you got attacked at the northern castle, because they hate men. if you are dressed in women cloths or full femaly party, nothing happens. (you can also avoid the room of the leader and you should be good while passing the castle).

Avoid bandits at level 13. Wait until at least 20, or 25 to be safer.

Save save save ... and yes... you need to level just alittle more. The great part here is that you can indeed manage these fights but one slip up will definitely get you killed. Save often... be careful and play to your strengths. Don't sweat it... when you return at new game+ like some legend of the ancients and just destroy shit by looking at it wrong you'll feel much better.

Do we know anything about a PS3 version of that The Chosen Quest Pack DLC that hit XBL last week?

Also, for those of you following along on the From a Different Sky weekly DLCs, did last week's set cut out at #38 for you? I have badges 1-38, but quests 39 and 40 never showed up in the DLC notice board. I bought tonight's 41-50, but haven't had a chance to get to Gran Soren yet to see what my notice board looks like...

Edit - 41-46 are now on the notice board. Still no 39 or 40 though. WTF? Weird.
Does anyone know what file on the PS3 stores the DLC, and if its safe to zap?

Boy that was a mess, even though I missed the witchwood rescue mission I still had the quest in that area to retrieve ale so I set out completely blind without a quest marker to find Selene's hut. I have no idea how I made it haha. Weird too since when I got there
Selene was completely doubled over by the fire place, she looked dead except for the fact that I could speak with her
I feel like I missed something.

Also I managed to find a grimoire for a quest I was after but it showed up in the bandit camp next to the witchwood and NOT where it was supposed to be on the map. This game has some really odd quirks but damn this is fun.

Edit: Oh never mind apparently I just broke the quest progression and did this out of order haha awesome.

Okay for my warrior, my set up is this:

Vehemence
Bastion
Ferocity
Temerity
Clout
Sinew

Should I take any of these out for Bloodlust? Also, is there anything else I should use instead of one of the above?

This is how good this game is:

I got all the way to the final boss with my Mystic Knight/Mage Combo, found I was under leveled and had to start again.

So, now I'm playing with my Warrior/Fighter combo. My pawn got about 40,000 RC off the bat, so I hired two 40+ level sorcerers and have been fighting everything I can find since. Shadow Fort was hard but manageable at super low levels with my new friends.

This game is so good that I can play it back-to-back and still be riveted. The exploration factor isn't there as much this time, but I'm way more fun as a Warrior than a Mystic Knight.

GOTY. Just make the next one a bit harder (don't force me to play with only one pawn—that's not the game). Maybe next game should be two pawns only not three. Other than that, no complaints. Love the minimalist story. Can't wait to see this one on Xbox 720.

This game...so annoying. How can I get Rook back? I accidentally told him to buzz off and I'm left with garbage pawns and no points to buy decent ones. The save system is terrible.

Rook is garbage pretty quickly, honestly. Pawns your level should be free. If they cost points, they're higher level than you. The greater the level gap, the greater the cost.

Hired pawns don't level up. You're pretty much required to swap pawns often. Personally, I generally hired pawns 5 levels over my character, then kept them until I was equal or slightly higher level than they were and then hired new ones.

If you're seeing nothing buy pawns that cost you RC, try doing a search for pawns only your level. Go the the rift stone while in the rift and click on it, then select search. Pawns from people on your friends list are also free, regardless of level.

Yeah Rook is bad almost as soon as you get him. If you do want him back though I think you can go through the menus and look at what pawns you've hired. IIRC from that menu you can add them to your favorites and they should show back up and be accessible in the rift.

Thanks guys. The pawn system is.. I don't know. Kinda a pain. I'm a Strider and I picked a big brute as my main pawn. I'm thinking I should have gone with a Mage sidekick...anyway to change main pawns?

My first ever pawn I hired was this cute little mage named Anna and she was super helpful so I added her to my faves. Then she recently shows up again in the rift as a level 46 warrior with a bigass sword, wearing a bikini and direwolf cape. I was so shocked.

Thanks - hey, where is Mercedes? I got to Gran Soren, she's gone, and there is a single quest involving her to go to Shadow Fort. Will I have a chance to give her some wine after that?

Also, her armor is DLC right? Is there any way to get it in-game?

You can save edit, it has been confirmed that all the DLC armor & weapons are on the disc & can be had with some save editing tools.
Some might already have saves with them unlocked floating around, I assume.

You want:

Eminence --Jumping attacks are more powerful―1.3 times the power.

from Strider. Jump attacks are great for warriors.

I'd switch out Temerity and Basition (you just stop needing the static defense bonus after a while) for Eminence and Bloodlust.

So I just slayed the dragon, so I guess I beat the main quest
. This had to be one of the most intense games I ever played. Some of the greatest video game battles I've ever been in. I'll go back and do some side quests now. I really want a sequel.

If anyone has a high level mage on PS3 please add me so I can leech of your greatness. After putting in 114hrs into the 360ver starting all over again with nothing is super sad times.

Oh and while I'm begging I'll just ask; If you have a spare berserkin on 360 I would love you forever if you'd give me one :)

This game despite it's flaws and graphics is soooooo good. I hope on the sequel they do something to make it difficult but not scaling enemies (that's always dumb), expand on the pawn system to any NPC. More class customization, oh god I'm giddy with what they can do with a sequel now that they have the formula. Oh and can't forget even bigger enemies to fight!

So uhh.....

I just like kind of really started this game and I read somewhere that you can actually form romantic relationships with any and all NPC in this game? That's cool, I guess, but then I read that the game basically chooses your romantic partner and not you? That's... totally uncool.

I read a story about a player who gets assigned a big old blacksmith as his romantic partner... It's hilarious in the hindsight but I don't want it to happen to my character. Any way to avoid this or to ensure the game picks out the one you want the most?

It's an affinity system, basically if you gift npc gifts and do sidequests for them, their affinity will raise, the romance is really just a bit of a bonus thing and a pretty funny one, it's not so much an option like the bioware games, if you want to make sure an npc likes you, gift them often, talk to them, do their sidequests and they will eventually have pink cloud around their heads, in the status screen it also tells you how many npc (female and male) has maxed out affinity with your Arisen.

Also keep in mind that the "love interest" the game chooses for you is the one who's affinity you last maxed prior to getting to that point.

I got screwed over again in trying to get Quina as mine. Her affinity was maxed (since 1st playthrough), did all her quests, gave her the Arisen's Bond... but it gave me Mercedes this time, as you have to do a quest involving her 2-3 quests before the game chooses.

Off to youtube.

Yes I am aware of the affinity system. But I wonder if there is a way for me to force the game to pick the one I want the most... say, Quina.

At least you don't get a blacksmith, hahaha.

I am just afraid that after all the epic quest and battles and such my character will be paired by the game with that blacksmith, hahaha. That player that got that happened to him... his post was seriously funny but I doubt I will be laughing if it happens to me though :\

I'm thinking the only way to lower the affinity of the major characters (Mercedes, Selene, etc.) is to attack them and then go to jail. You can attack them, right?

Now, every time I talk to Asalam, I draw my weapon when I'm done. :p

You'll probably need to draw your sword at the characters you don't like, but mostly if you do all the sidequests for certain npcs, their affinity will go up really quick, Quina might be harder than Aelinore because of how easy it is to miss her quest(s).

Couldn't you just find Quina right before the ending (I found her at the Abbey) and give her the ring? I did that with Madeline and she was in my ending.

No idea, but the ring was probably harder to find than Quina's quests, I didn't know it existed on my first playthrough

Dark Lorica.
I am a dangerous looking mother fucker. How anyone could want to be anything other than assassin i'll just never know. Will post pics later but ... oh yes. Oh yes.

So ... nebula cape now. Uhg... another 40 trips up and down. Is there a piece of clothing that looks especially good with this outfit? or even an actual god tier assassin specific shirt? ...

edit: O.O my pawn returns with 100k rift crystals.... easily the largest amount on a single trip ever. Wow. SOU-SOU- and show-0308 are the shit.

Wandered around devilfire grove, minding my own business killing goblins and stuff before entering shadowfort, heard the drake flap its wings so I walked back towards the camp direction

Got a pop up telling me my cape just got dragonforged for no reason, it must've rewarded me for my bravery :'D

The magic counter shit is awesome on mystic knight, rather use that than swapping to a staff for magic

Wish casting is faster though and I don't want to level my Sorcerer :(

I think I'm off to fight the Dragon, but before then I have been farming these Flowers that Quina favors. If this game gives me some bullshit with Madeleine or Symone I am going to be pissed!

For my ranger pawn I use the Dark Lorica with the Dragon leather vest underneath which you get from
the dragonforged dude before fighting Grigori
. For the arms he has Twilight Manicae, cape is Dragon Knight (I think), legs are Carmine Breeches and the golden mask whose name I forget. He looks pretty sweet.

Does anyone know what's in the DLC going up on PSN today? Looks like more than the usual crappy mission pack.

EDIT: Just checked out the DLC and it's complete shite. Just unlocks some crap very early game armour and weapons you can buy anyway. Come on Capcom give us something decent.
