Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Eppy Thatcher

God's had his chance.
At work now but I must post pics when I get home... shortly after finding my Lorica I was on my way through another chamber and ended up fighting a golem and a cyclops at the same time and snapped multiple photos of the ass whooping i handed out. Mmmmmmhmm! feels good.

Anyways... changed my pawn over to strider so he can max that quickly before I make my final few preparations including selling all my extra shite and attempting to kill the Ur-Dragon at least f'cking once before i go to a new game and making sure I have full suits for Warrior, Assassin, Mystic Knight and Magic Archer. Need a better robe and at least one more decent cane... some crimson stuff (gauntlets i think) to round out my set and also Abyssal ... i don't even care if it's shit. I want the gear from that damn corpse of a dragon.

Madeleine is a money hungry whore.

In any case. After farming the Soul Flayer canyon , and giving Quina no less than 25 flowers that she favours, in addition to previously completing her quest line, and giving her the ring; the game decided you know what here is Alenoire. Should have let the tramp die and walked away, but I didn't come that far for no battle and what a battle it was. I feel sorry for anyone who will never play this game this is definitely going in the top 15 games of 2012.

Post game time! Woohoo.

Asalam is waiting

I got Asalam last night during my final playthrough for platinum. After getting, Aelinor, Mercedes and Madeline, I guess Arisen needed some unconventional tail. Has anyone finished the game with Feste the Jester affinity?

Eppy Thatcher

God's had his chance.
I got Mercedes on my first run through. I think mostly because I missed a LOT of sidequest stuff (never did the Manse) and definitely finished all of hers. Is kind of hilarious that her entire yarn is about her trying to be a decent Knight and then
Jules calls her out as a lil bitch and there she is ... looking like snow white in the scary forest looking around acting all ferklempt over a couple of goblins. Like jesus bitch.. how did you wonder into the cave of the God Dragon. Well done, you headless chicken.

It's all because you took her sword before she go

I did not even know you could romance Mercedes. In my play through I never even saw an escort quest for her.

EDIT: Did I also mention my Arisen is a pimp? Basically engaging in Polygamy. Since I have the Dutchess and Selene in my house.

Huh. This is literally one of the only ones i did in the whole game. I took the guy to the water springs and Mercedes to the fort and that's it. I think on my new game+ i wanna bang the witch. Any dating tips from other gaffers who brought the goth home?

Forge the Wyrmking's Ring and keep the real one, if you can.

That's almost the end of the game! but I'll do that though, stupid duke

This is what I did on my first run(still on my first run, actually, but no matter). I thought, "Faster casting? There's no way in HELL I'm giving that back.".

There was the matter of the treasure chest in the Duke's treasury though, that I didn't get to open. It needed the ring, but naturally, since the Duke had a fake, he couldn't open the chest for me. I didn't dare open it with the Duke there, so I snuck back in there at night later in the game. Sadly, I had stored the ring at Asalam's for whatever reason and couldn't open the chest at this time, and to top it off, when I left the room I was arrested immediately for trespassing. I loaded the game and decided to come back for it later, which I did, but to my horror the treasure chest was gone. The contents were supposed to be delivered to me at a later time though, so I don't know if it simply "warped" to my place in Cssardis. Haven't checked. Still have no idea what it contains. Ah well, there's always ng+ :(

The "Prepare for Adventure" DLC weapons and armor are disappointing as hell. Its basically beginner's gear that's been leveled up 2 stars each. And not even a full outfit at that.

Last weapon pack that came out was disappointing too. Are they ever going to put out some badass one-of-a-kind weapons that just rock or is the plan to keep putting out shit each time?

we can always hope for something a little more down the road that constitutes some actual badassery. now that we all know what most of the sets and better gear looks like/is named we can keep our ears out for DLC with omfgbbq death dealing gear of the forever.

Don't hold your breath tho.

Guys, I think that I fucked up - please help!

So, I was doing other quests and suddenly, 4 escort quests disappeared from the quest board - including Mercedes! Are they gone forever? I haven't been in the castle yet and actually, I can't even enter for some reason... will I get a chance to give Mercedes my 87 cloudwines?

Also, my main is Assassin and Pawn is Sorcerer/Mage, and I have this gold statue - who would make best use giving it to? Thanks guys.

Some quests are time sensitive and if you advance the story in certain parts then quests will disappear from quest boards. You can still speak with Mercedes once you get inside the castle - she should be walking around.

Give the Golden Idol to Caxton.

I just spent like the last 15minutes blowing up cows and bandits with the fire counter and laughing at them, I have issues, I took a lot of pictures too. Shit works for everything from range dudes to goblin tossing a bottle of softdrink at you, it's hilarious

You can't send a cow flying high up in the air, so that's kind of disappointing :(

My Adrien Brody lookalike Arisen hasn't even put a thought to smanging some ladies (or bros, he's not too sure yet), been too busy keeping those roads FRESH for when the Duke gets on commissioning some new ones.

Also launching arrows at that PIECE OF SHIT GRIFFIN that fucks with me every time I leave Gran Soren. COME ON DOWN MOTHERFUCKER, DADDY'S GOT SOME FRESH MURDER ARROWS FOR YA.

I also changed my main pawns vocation to a Mage, and now she just sits back and fires these little tiny fireballs at the goblins (or, as I like to call them, PRACTICE). It's pretty cute. She's a red head. She gets a thing or to arise out of ol`Adrien, eh eh eh?

This is a fail-story :

So, I restarted the game from the beginning. Unlike my previous game, I was kinda lucky with the chests (I got a very cool staff and daggers for my pawn and I). Feeling confident, I decided to try the escort quest for the merchant we save at the beginning, who wish to go to the Fort, north-west of Gran Solen.

Since my last try wasn't very successful, I took an other route. Instead of going west then north (and crossing the river with saurians), I tried the north then west route. Turns out this road if full of female rogues, like the other one. Meh. No problem so far, they're tough, but I managed to take them down with my 23ish party. I also encountered direwolves (puppies !), which went down quickly.

I reached the crossroad where a cyclop was waiting for fools like me to walk into him. Having a V.I.P with me, I decided to avoid him, and managed to sneak behind him without much difficulties. I was pretty wary, since I knew a chimera was also hunting nearby. Nevertheless, I took the path leading to the mountains. Seeing a Fort in the horizon, I was beginning to believe that this time I was going to make it.
That's when I took a look at the map and realized I was nowhere near arrived.
And that's also when I had a big "Oh crap" moment when I saw an another cyclop just ahead of the very narrow pathway.

After cursing the game a little, I decided to try to kill it. I mean, I beat cyclops multiples times before, I was sure he would went down in a jiffy. I was just hoping that the escortee wouldn't be hit by the huge bludgeon and fly into the woods to his certain death.
Turns out, one of my pawn did, but in the end I managed to kill it. Down to 3 members (and a load).

I reached the gate of the Fort blocking the road. Hopefully, the females rogues here were pretty friendly (well, no one tried to kill me, so this is "friendly" behaviour to me). I thought it was weird, since I believed they would attack me on sight, since my PC is male. I read here and there that a dress could help, but I wasn't expecting to be able to cross this place without a fight, as a male. I guess I got confused about what I read.

By the time I went behind the gate, night had fallen. On top on that, a mist shrouded the aera (weird : the game doesn't feature rain - as far as I know - but it does feature mist ? M'kay). I only had to walk a little, and I would reach the Fort. At this point, I honestly believed I was going to make it.

Then the skeletons came.

Huge HP pool, devastating spells, and down to 3 members... The situation was rather dire.
Hopefully, I somehow managed to kill them. The escortee did take a few hits, but my main pawn healed him. Only a few steps, and I would have succeded in my goal...

And then, "it"* appeared from behind a corner, and ran into me like a bat out of hell.

My escortee died instantly.

Sometimes, this game reminds me of Dwarf Fortress. Losing is fun.

*Just in case : I'm talking about a Chimera.

Bananas! LoL, what is going in this post game? All manner of hellish beasts are about. Drakes are popping up all over the place where they usually aren't and I saw a Dragon with purple breath near Gran Soren what is going on here!

Spoiler question
After the Duke gets his guard to chase you to the pit, does your Arisen look down in the hole, looking down on himself?

Did we just enter Drakengard territory of WTF?

I love how this game somehow makes every stage of your progression from early beginning level fighter/mage/strider class stuff to the first levels of an advanced class all the way to your end game big pimp status stuff always look bloody amazing. I think it's the fairly "realistic" type of gear you have on but these pictures of the MK without 3 feet of armor on look just as pimp as say someone like Julien's fully armored pimp suit.

Great shots, btw. I'm really starting to think that after I max the warrior vocation i'm going to switch to Mystic Knight... round that out then quickly shoot through ranger. Saving magic for last. My normal way to play these type of games is to go all out magic from square one. But Skyrim completely burnt me out on that shit. Worst magic in a game in a looooong time imo. completely deflated me on the magical death. I want to build up to tossing meteors around in this awesome world.

I really wish this game had an option to turn on numerical counters of how much damage you're doing at any given time. I really want to know the base damage of a move like Sacrificial Bolt or Arc of Deliverance, but I can only calculate it as how many life bars it takes away from an unarmored boss creature.

Speaking of Sacrificial Bolt, would it be worthwhile to use on the Ur-Dragon? Or would the combined damage of my pawns be greater in the long-run?

Offline or online? Offline, it might do ok damage to him. Online? Forget about it.

Yeah, never mind, I remembered Ur's huge dark resistance.

I don't measure my progress against Ur by his health bar (obviously), so much as my total contribution to the "cause". I think I could do a decent amount of damage if I stacked a few augments and used a few magic-boosting items, but I doubt it'd be enough to warrant losing a pawn.

Sorry man but skyrim's magic is the worst shit ever. It literally made me stop playing the game at level 45/46 as a pure mage. put it down .. and i won't ever pick it up again. Just completely broken.

DDs spells at least LOOK powerful and intimidating. Already it's leagues above skyrim.

Fought online Ur the other day and managed to take him from about 1/15th of a life bar into his next bar a fair amount before he flew away. First time I've ever really noticed myself do real damage to him. Level 70 i think.

final edit: Can someone let me know where the Online ur is at right now? I would love to get a killing blow tonight, get my abyssinal armor and move on to new game+. But not until then.

Anyone that has the official guide. Is there close up, hi-res is pics of all the armor in the game? I think I finally found a good look for my pawn that I am going to settle with, unless I find a really good looking plate-mail, but my adventures to farming the Ever Fall are now beginning, so that may change, unless there is high-tier stuff that is just hideous.

The best high tier Assassin stuff I have seen so far is the Abysmal Bracers I think and the Nebula Cloak, the Abysmal Skirt thing looks like ass though...

So I'm about to buy this game.

How awesome is Mystic Knight?

You will love it.

The Twilight set + Dark Lorica is simply the shit. You'll love the way you look in blood soaked solid black. I wear the black chest piece for my clothes underneath the twilight manicae and it looks very nice as an extremely assassin-y setup. Just completed this set last night and I couldn't be more pumped with the way my main looks while i murder.
Assassin is sooooooo gud.

The issue with Skyrim's magic, as a huge Skyrim fan myself, is that it lacks in the offense department in the late game. Instead of the damage scaling to a magic stat as you level up (you have no "stats"), Destruction spells have a base amount of damage that never actually changes. The other schools, like Conjuration and Illusion, were quite useful for the entire game, however.

Lol, so pumped. I think this is the only RPG I have ever played just for styles and not giving a damn about stats.

Its really funny the way some of the more, err, colourful dialogue is so well buried in the game.
Sir Raster ( Him of "Oh its you... Bugger off!") is hilarious, especially the one-time only bit where he mentions that he's more likely "to grow a pair of teats" than you slay the dragon.

Merin has a similarly off-colour comment at one point too. There's so much detail in this game its nuts.

I can't swear to it, but I also think I just got a version of LENOORE! with slightly different dialogue than on my first couple of playthroughs... it definitely seemed different.

I commented on that a few pages ago. Tons of dialogue buried in this game and I'm pretty sure Ser Raster was sleeping with that girl in Castle. God I forget her name, but she might be Fedels wife.

As for Fedel, he's insulting as hell. Saying that he knew he smelled a pungent odor nearby, only to find it was me.

Also, the Everfall, this is the only part I'll out right spoil myself on, not on the creatures, but the chests. I'll be writing down all the items in the chests in certain rooms, and striking a line through them as I collect them. Thanks Gamefaqs.

I was over 70 hours when I beat the game & found I missed about 14 quests/missions & I practically did no escort quests as well.

Even with all that, I still felt the game seemed short.

DDs spells look freaking great, but you will spend 90% of the fight just trying to cast one of them while your pawns mop up. And if you're fighting fast enemies like Hellhounds or Chimeras? Just give up or spam Ingle because you will never ever cast anything.

Without painstakingly following a faq or guide you have practically zero chance of seeing every main story mission on a single playthrough. Doing all the message-board sidequests is a huge time-sink even disregarding escorts missions which seem to be auto-generated based on which NPC's you interact with.

And that is just scratching the surface, because there's a truly insane amount of stuff hidden about the world which you'll only find if you're scouring areas looking for it.

I'm pretty thorough and careful, so my first playthrough was 90 plus hours, yet I missed a lot of stuff.

Big thing for me is that I find the combat and traversal mechanics to be really engaging so even when I'm doing stuff I've done before (albeit with different job/skill/party combinations) it hasn't gotten stale.

Do we know anything about a PS3 version of that The Chosen Quest Pack DLC that hit XBL last week?

Also, for those of you following along on the From a Different Sky weekly DLCs, did last week's set cut out at #38 for you? I have badges 1-38, but quests 39 and 40 never showed up in the DLC notice board. I bought tonight's 41-50, but haven't had a chance to get to Gran Soren yet to see what my notice board looks like...

Edit - 41-46 are now on the notice board. Still no 39 or 40 though. WTF? Weird.
Does anyone know what file on the PS3 stores the DLC, and if its safe to zap?

No one has any ideas, or has experienced anything like this?

To me the end game master spells in skyrim are quite simply broken. The fact you can't move plus the amount of magic it takes to cast and the amount of damage you end up doing is just fucking paultry. Just dumb.

They all look terrible as well.

Since DD makes you take time for each cast it seems like the spells themselves are much more balanced for power through out the game. That and the range of spell types immediately put it above skyrim to me.

Either way... mage last for me... but i can't wait to cast my first tornado at a basalisk.

2 questions:

1.) I stumbled upon a place called the blue moon tower. I got some cool treasure and such but as I ascend I come to two doors, both locked. I'm assuming it's for story reasons? If not any advice would be great.

2.) does any of the DLC add additional areas or is it mostly just additional escort/fetch quests?
