This is a fail-story :
So, I restarted the game from the beginning. Unlike my previous game, I was kinda lucky with the chests (I got a very cool staff and daggers for my pawn and I). Feeling confident, I decided to try the escort quest for the merchant we save at the beginning, who wish to go to the Fort, north-west of Gran Solen.
Since my last try wasn't very successful, I took an other route. Instead of going west then north (and crossing the river with saurians), I tried the north then west route. Turns out this road if full of female rogues, like the other one. Meh. No problem so far, they're tough, but I managed to take them down with my 23ish party. I also encountered direwolves (puppies !), which went down quickly.
I reached the crossroad where a cyclop was waiting for fools like me to walk into him. Having a V.I.P with me, I decided to avoid him, and managed to sneak behind him without much difficulties. I was pretty wary, since I knew a chimera was also hunting nearby. Nevertheless, I took the path leading to the mountains. Seeing a Fort in the horizon, I was beginning to believe that this time I was going to make it.
That's when I took a look at the map and realized I was nowhere near arrived.
And that's also when I had a big "Oh crap" moment when I saw an another cyclop just ahead of the very narrow pathway.
After cursing the game a little, I decided to try to kill it. I mean, I beat cyclops multiples times before, I was sure he would went down in a jiffy. I was just hoping that the escortee wouldn't be hit by the huge bludgeon and fly into the woods to his certain death.
Turns out, one of my pawn did, but in the end I managed to kill it. Down to 3 members (and a load).
I reached the gate of the Fort blocking the road. Hopefully, the females rogues here were pretty friendly (well, no one tried to kill me, so this is "friendly" behaviour to me). I thought it was weird, since I believed they would attack me on sight, since my PC is male. I read here and there that a dress could help, but I wasn't expecting to be able to cross this place without a fight, as a male. I guess I got confused about what I read.
By the time I went behind the gate, night had fallen. On top on that, a mist shrouded the aera (weird : the game doesn't feature rain - as far as I know - but it does feature mist ? M'kay). I only had to walk a little, and I would reach the Fort. At this point, I honestly believed I was going to make it.
Then the skeletons came.
Huge HP pool, devastating spells, and down to 3 members... The situation was rather dire.
Hopefully, I somehow managed to kill them. The escortee did take a few hits, but my main pawn healed him. Only a few steps, and I would have succeded in my goal...
And then,
"it"* appeared from behind a corner, and ran into me like a bat out of hell.
My escortee died instantly.
Sometimes, this game reminds me of Dwarf Fortress. Losing is fun.
*Just in case : I'm talking about a Chimera.
