So, what's a safe level to be at before starting to explore a bit more? I've been staying near the two opening cities worried I'll be destroyed if I wander too far off. I think I'm at level 19 now.

That's no fun if you know when to venture out =p

Just explore and get your ass kicked, then come back when you're powerful enough to rip their asses

At 20, you should be good enough to handle most things.

Chimeras and bandits will be common but you can take them out. Cyclopes will all be pretty easy. I'd still stay away from exploring at night as ghosts and Fell Lords can be handfuls. Dealing with a Phantom made even a trivial battle against a cyclops and some goblins basically impossible to beat.

A lot of it will come down to your skill set. Some skills are way better for taking down, say, bandits and Saurians than they are climbable monsters. So you may need to retreat back to town every so often and reconsider what skills you have equipped.

This has already happened quite a bit.

Edit: I see you said half of 59 hours. Still I got bored in post-game after about 8, what extra stuff are you talking about?

Well there what, 15 chambers in the Everfall, several of which have randomly switching patterns of enemies many of which are going to stretch you severely if you aren't pretty high level. Obviously its there to be farmed, but it took me quite awhile til I got comfortable enough to be able to reliably locate and pick out specific chambers.

Then of course there is finishing up any message-board quests outstanding - particularly tough one-off battles like the Archhydra + Goblins in the frontier caverns. You can make a buttload of cash doing these which should give you a nice bunch of bank to set-up port-crystals in NG+, which will facilitate easier escorts and generally completing anything you missed first time-around. As I've said before, you'd need to be carefully following a guide to get "The Hero" achievement in a single playthrough - its really easy to miss stuff.

Exploring the world during post-game gives you a chance to square off against all 3 different Wyrm type monsters, try to farm their tears for better loot, and hopefully dragonforge more gear.

Personally I was still discovering new stuff 150+ hours in, there are loads of small hidden areas (my history shows 178 locations discovered), and treasure chests scattered about.

Its a fun place to explore and fight in. Hell, if you want to challenge yourself all you need do is change your party configuration - try soloing stuff on Assassin.

So I beat the main boss
and the Duke
. How do I go about getting NG+, there's been no notification.

Dont know if this is spoilerish but...
You need to now collect 20 wakestones in the everfall. As soon as you do that you will fight the final final boss and you'll be able to start new game+

It's actually pretty easy to gauge which part of the map you could explore, it's not a really big map and you level really fast, it's just the escort quests that's often misleading, in a nutshell the main story quests are probably the most difficult quest you could receive and the sidequests should be a bit easier since they open in relation to the main quest, say if the main quest tells you to go to super duper dungeon and the sidequests tells you to do shit around that area, it means those area are probably safe to go while super duper dungeon might be a bit harder, if you do the sidequests, they probably give you enough exp that outlevel them assuming you didn't miss any.

I never really ran into any trouble on my first playthrough because I just go to whatever the game tells me to.

Of course there might be an enemy or two around that might be difficult but to be honest, they're quite rare :D

And pictures of the day, my character got a haircut!

The Everfall chambers bored me after finishing off
The Ur Dragon and Archhydra. The Hydra in the frontier caverns was a piece of cake

There were a few quests that were still open, but I didn't feel like killing
XXX rabbits or XXX crows
So I left them open.

And I don't really want to max out my gear. Why should I? I already beat the toughest bosses with my current gear. Didn't feel like collecting or upgrading everything. No ocd issues here,

But I'd play a NG+ if the dificulty would scale. But it didn't. :(

Try a different job or a different party setup, it makes a huge difference to the overall level of challenge.

Try soloing Chamber Of Fate room#1
combo of Chimera/Gorechimera+Wight summoning Hellhounds
solo if you want to test yourself.

Point is, if you want a challenge you set things up in such a way that it tests your skills, just beating everything with all the assists turned on is basically a minimum requirement not the apex of achievement!

Obviously if you aren't enjoying it, there's no point, but I like the whole loot/exploration aspect a lot and there's a lot of latitude in the game to tailor the overall difficulty of combat to keep things interesting.

Its also worth bearing in mind that thanks to the way the difficulty of the UR Dragon keeps increasing, restarting is actually going to make the game more difficult in the long term. Sure after you've jumped in on a couple of easy kills your gear is pimped, but looking ahead those kills are going to be fewer and further apart.

PS. Regarding messageboard kill-quests. The final one to come available is the one to do 10 vile eyes, once you've seen/done that, you've hit the endpoint.

Alon inside the Quarry should sell the cape.

Forge the letter and give it to both for 2x the gold and XP :)

I think its too late, im already talking to gabrian :(

If you see the game saying its saving, but you didn't initiate the save, its safe for you to just turn the game off and it'll put you back at that spot, correct? Because it autosaved before I went into the Duke's area, so I can go back and forge it...

I wouldn't do that - some people got corrupted saves because of it.

Yeah I wouldn't either. From what I can tell checkpoint saves are a separate thing. I think Autosaves will overwrite your last save but a checkpoint is stored differently... so turning off during a checkpoint save might be okay? Either way it's best to not risk it though.

Reached level 147... I should make a new char, it's no challenge at all, also alone the archydra went down pretty fast ... But i like my char, don't want to grow up again^^

I've done it twice already! Finished a solo run earlier last week, doing a double sorcerer only run now. Spell synchrony is AMAZING.

Fucking hell, so much god damn walking. Just got my first port crystal though. Lots of walking to Bluemoon Tower and back.

Where to put it is the question....

Also need to get more ferrystones.

you only have 1 the first play through. I'd put it near the top left hand side of the map. You won't get anymore til NG+ when you can buy more Portcrystals

NG+ is bull, it's probably better to start over on another account :p

there's something really satisfyin about running around killing things with much impunity. Very satisfying. I'm on NG+ and outside of wanting new gear - so I can't wait to get the everfall; I'm enjoying myself.

add. you will need to
kill yourself with that dagger
to start NG+

can the end game pics but put in the spoiler threads? Its very spoilerific.

I just spent all day playing this--must be well past 40 hours now--and it just gets better and better. I am totally engrossed in this thing. It's utterly HUGE, and yet I don't find myself wanting to miss out on a single side mission.

I am loving this game, and I can safely say already that it's my game of the generation.

Hot damn.

Can't say that yet, but it's definitely up there for me as well.

Does this game feature killmoves/stealthkills like skyrim?
You know I think if they ever make a sequel, they should add some stealth mechanics too. There was a single mission in the game where you infiltrate a fort, and it would have been so useful there. Lots of potential.

Aw yeah, looks like Capcom will be turning this into a major franchise after having shipped one million copies.

Yeah. That was a pretty positive press release.

Very happy we'll get to see more ..the direction you have to take from now on is obvious ..

-keep the battle system
-increase content ( map size, ennemy types )
-allow another arisen to join with his pawn ( still a 4 character party , 2 human , 2 pawns )

-Keep the pawn system

This is about what Demon's Souls did in it's first year, but much faster... is it not? I can see making a franchise out of it for sure. Like Demon Souls it has great word of mouth.

And like Demon's Souls it's really effin awesome.

Yeah, but this game had a huge budget and was on multiple platforms. Reaching 1 mil is pretty great news, though. More people need to pick this up, and hopefully the sequel will sell like this game should have.

Finally beat the Drake today. Kept attacking his dead body til he decomposed. I haven't been this pumped after beating a boss since beating the third Bowser in SM64.

I'm still floored by some of the things I'm seeing in combat. Goblins have some very goblin like unique behaviors in this game - they behave and act like goblins instead of just generic fodder with a generic attack animation in so many other RPG's.

I just had a sequence where one goblin saw me casting a long cast time spell, he then throws a shoulder tackle at me knocking me to the floor. As soon as I stopped rolling and falling backwards two of his friends rush me and start stomping in me while I'm down. All the while I'm just laughing at the whole thing.

The whole sequence reminded me of a WWE tag team match back in the day, when the bad guys would have the one good guy still in the ring and proceed to beat him down.

And then there's the various "OH SHIT" moments that the monsters have - where the monsters react to something you did to them. Playing a pyro heavy caster have never been more rewarding when you see a goblin running around wildly flailing his arms around with his head on fire screaming and yelling.

In other RPG's this same scenario would be a simple fire effect played over the goblin, while the goblin would just do a generic stagger animation or something.

That sounds pretty cool. I like little touches like that. Makes the game more memorable.

Just wondering... Do monsters ever attack each other? Like say your traveling along and you could say see some goblins attacking a griffin etc etc.

The amount of stuff like this they have in the game is quite amazing. Wolves especially, upon spotting you they howl. If you can kill the howler before he finishes, backup doesn't arrive. If you set them on fire, they immediately roll onto the ground to put it out. Also they will gang up on you especially if you've fallen, and will run away if there's only 1 wolf left.

Cyclopes are interesting too, it's weak spot is it's eye, and if you're an archer aiming specifically there, sometimes it will enrage and close it's eye. But because the eye is closed he can't see you, and will swing wildly in all directions as long as you're not attacking him.

Sadly although they can hit each other I don't think they fight on purpose. I've seen bandits and wolves side by side making a beeline for me.

So far this is easily my GOTY 2012, bought this shit on straight impulse from reading the impressions in this thread. Prior to that I hadn't even heard of Dragon's Dogma let alone seen vids/screenshots.

Put it outside of bluemoon tower if you've only been there once, they want you to return later, then you could pick it up and put it wherever you want.

Always buy ferrystones, there's no reason to walk all the way back from bluemoon tower.

Ok more noob question from me:

I'm only level 8 so far and havnt touched the main quest yet.

I just did that one where you needed to find that lost girl and goto that Witchwood place (I finally got past all the damn bandits and wolves). What was the point of that quest? You get there and there is no help so you go back to the home town?

Also on that note is there any fast travel option in this game? Getting to and from Witchwood from your home town I had to walk all the way around there was no shortcut.

And lastly how can you rest / fast forward time?
I went back to my house in the home town but there no was option when i got near the bed.

No help? If you met her - she'll guide you out back home.

No direct fast travel options, but you may get one later in the game.

Cassardis has an inn. 50 gold.

Oh I just meant that the witch wasnt there so that whole treck was pointless for that quest since she is like oh ill just see you back at home then.

And you need to goto the Inn? Seriously? You cant sleep in your bed in your own house?
