Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Yea I'm like earvcunanan at this point I'm about creating that perfect look for my Arisen, I really want Dragon's Pain, but can't afford it. At the moment I'm rocking the daggers that use the same model as Dragon's Pain. I'm still trying to find better armor that goes with my Arisen's Dragon's Hide chestpiece I got from the Dragonforged.

I need something for the Summer drought and this is seeming to be mighty tempting as of late.

- Do I need a guide?
- How fluid, easy to learn and fun is the combat?
- Any known bugs or glitches?
- New game +?

- No
- Fluid and easy - if you're familiar with DMC and MH combat mechanics you'll be fine here
- Not really, just saves getting corrupted if you switch off your console during an auto-save (don't do that for any game, really)
- Yep

Cool, finally got my hands on the game. Got to level 14, was trying to slay the
tentacled beast for half an hour, in the pawn guide cellar, when I decided to take a hike. It actually got me the quest. Don't know if you can still kill it, but eh, this is good enough.

I can't keep things apart in Gran Soren though. But yeah, like what I've played, already more so than Amalur. I'm trying to go Warrior/Gatts/Berserk style, any tips on getting there asap? With armor and so on?

And what are the best ways to get good gear? Haven't really found anything so far, so I just bought and upgraded a bastard sword.

Best way to get gear early on is doing Alon's quest near the Ancient Quarry or giving the Golden Idol to Caxton.

Just switch to warrior and swing two-handers around.

As for gear, head to the quarry by Gran Soren. You'll eventually be able to acquire the Guts armor set/sword.

Thought the demo on the PS3 was terrible, but I rented it last night and plan on buying the game at some point. The tipping point for me was when I was able to not only pick up a rabbit, but throw it off a cliff to it's death AND get 10 exp, and then being able to loot a broken tusk because I shot it off the Cyclopse. Did the ranger character last night and that was seeming to do much more damage than my mage character I created today is doing, but I do enjoy the ability to heal me and my pawns on my terms instead of running around at 1/3 health because they don't feel like healing. If I could just get them to constantly heal people to full health on my ranger character I think I'd stick with that.

Pretty fun game, even if the controls aren't as tight as I'd like them to be on the mage character.

Nothing too interesting for today, only killed some golems and translated some tablet, also shot some skeletons in their bald head.

Yeah, mage characters are a bit clunky but with more damaging spells, striders are probably the quickest character and even has an ability to cancel out of every move, the demo was a bit terrible but it gives you an idea what the combat is like.

The retail game has a lot of vocations and depth to it, it's one of those games where you find a lot of things you could do the more you play :D

- No guide is more fun in my opinion. There's always the Internet if you get stuck.
- Fun and easy to learn is the combat. Very fun (and fluid).
- No idea about bugs/glitches.
- Yes new game+

To add:
- I have my guide for convenience and to look up item combo's and drops, so ultimately no
- What they said above, this isn't the kind of game where you mash and hack n slash all day. - I have PS3, no real bugs or glitches, but I found some lag and music skip when there's many activity going on
- Yes. Post-game stuff and new game +

Hrmm. I think I might be giving DD a break for a while. 2 playthroughs in, 100+ hours spent, Ur-Dragon slain, I'm not sure there's anything else for me to do.

I encourage everyone to use my pawn Elric (PSN Deified_Data), lv.75 Warrior. It'll be neat to see all the RC I get when I pick the game up again. Substantial, challenging DLC for this game cannot come soon enough!

Start over solo on another account (if you haven't already)!

What can I do with rift crystals other than hiring high level pawns? I usually hire the same level and only change once I get 3 or 4 levels above my pawns. I don't want to get a super strong pawn that makes the game even easier.

You can buy elixirs that will change your Pawn's inclinations. Check out the Rift Shop at the Encampment - the guy sells some cosmetic stuff too.

Yup...I've done just about everything, really, including starting over from scratch (why I'm in my 70's right now and not max level). It's been a hell of a trip. DD is my GOTY for sure.

i decided to stop playing yesterday until some real DLC comes out. 150 hours are just enough.

i was tempted to start over nevertheless...

like I stated earlier

Loved the combat and mechanics

hated the world and quests

Yeah some quests aren't layed out well, like the Fournival quest I am doing now but I decided to not let that bother me in this game,I fail it,no big deal,I got use to that after failing one of the first quest in the game, the flower quest...

I think one thing they could at least do is to make starting a new game easier with multiple save slots, but I do wish they make an expansion, I would probably buy it even if I'm not into paying for DLCs.
got this game for 40bucks

I would definitely recommend this if you haven't done it yet. Nothing in post game will ever compare to the frantic fear of scrambling around in the well trying (and failing) to beat those saurians. I daresay it's worth losing your progress and gear. After all, at this point, what are you using it for?

Or you can try soloing the entire game naked too. That should be fun. I always tried to do naked runs in MH if I got bored.

Oh man, this game.

I got up to the point in the story where Salvation has taken the Greatwall and I saunter on up there,
fucking roads looking like shit by the way, Duke,
and then the fucking Dragon shows up and goes all "yea that guy was a fuckwit".
What the fuck is going on!!?? This game is nutso. I've dropped about 40 hours into it so far, 30 of which were spent inspecting the condition of all the roads and the last 10 carving my name into whatever goblin decides he wants to die today.

CliffyB's Cock Holster
191 hours and I'm pretty much done for now myself; done every mb quest and every dlc treasure-hunt available to date. Just need to hire a couple more pawns for the trophy* and get the silly "ending"
that requires you to die fighting the Seneschal
and that's my plat done.

Still slightly annoyed that my main pawn hasn't got a 3 star rating for every zone in the game -dripstone cave hidden area?- but I'm damned if I can find anything else.

*70 is a fucking stupid number.

i'm only after DLC with real substance. if this game wasn't as good as it is, i wouldn't even consider getting a full-fledged expansion.

i don't need anything but my char/pawn, and maybe level. no one knows which level the DLC will start at. i think i know everything there is to know about this game now. i don't want to get bored with it.

Okay, on the way to bluemoon tower there is a small side area where you can go downstairs to a bunch of little jail cells. I didn't have any skeleton keys on me so I couldn't get in the cells. Before I waste ferrystones going back and forth, is there anything worthwhile down there?

Also, on a side note, i really hate the fact that I bought the whole griffon armor set only to find that you can obtain at least half of it in bluemoon. So now I have a bunch of doubles...

If it's your first time there, then there is some worthwhile loot. From what I remember, I picked up the Dark Matter hammer there and it was beastly at the time.

Thanks, I ended up going back there just out of OCD. Nothing I really needed, as I have whatever Great Hammer that is one or two better than the Dark Matter (one of those 3 spike ones)

New question: how often does the
dragon by the shadowfort
respawn?

I just spent all day playing this--must be well past 40 hours now--and it just gets better and better. I am totally engrossed in this thing. It's utterly HUGE, and yet I don't find myself wanting to miss out on a single side mission.

I am loving this game, and I can safely say already that it's my game of the generation.

I'd give that title to Dark Souls, but its definitely my GOTY.

shield is fun to use, but i can't justify relying on pawns for ranged attacks somehow, i rather do it myself.

Seems a lot of people feel that way. My pawn has been getting much more action as a Mage/Sorcerer than as a Strider/Ranger. Unless in ranged you included magic.

You have to rest 7 times (7 days) for it to respawn.

Also, 1st post! Love the thread, love the game.

Is the tearing on 360 any better in the retail/patched builds? I tried the demo and god damn that was ghastly.

If not I'll just buy it on PS3.

An even better way, for experienced players is to farm soul flayer canyon. The very first quest I took upon reaching gran soren was to escort Reynard to the greatwall. The equipment you can get at soulflayer canyon is just under post game level. Sorcs can get a plucked heart archstaff, which is stronger than almost everything caxton will sell with a gold idol. At lvl 15, that's really something.

Start over solo on another account (if you haven't already)!
I'm playing alternate characters using alternate accounts.....this way you can technically hire your own pawns and transfer equipment across accounts!

I have so many materials that I dont know what to do with. Can someone tell me good stuff to make or link me to something that spells out combinations so i dont waste items?

Just throw them in your storage, you have infinite space and when you don't need the materials on you when you craft, the crafters will just take it from storage.

Does anyone know if this game is region free? I want to know if I can buy an NTSC copy now for my brother's PAL 360.

It's pretty bad. I don't normally notice tearing but it stands out pretty bad at times. It wasn't enough for me to return it but for people with even moderate sensitivity they may want to go with the ps3 version

Dear capcom, the screenshot quality is pure shit. Sincerely.....everyone.

Oh Hy Archhydra....I'm killing you again bruh, sorry. Let me rephrase that, I'm just here to bother you while those two mirror each other's spells and fuck you up.

What do I get after 9 attempts? Oh hai Dark Lorica

Just fought the final boss
Well, the dragon, in the Final Battle quest, I know there's more
for about 50 minutes before dying. It was reaaaaaaaaal low on health at the time. Feels bad, man.

Bright side: After first 40 minutes of that I figured out some actual effective tactics, and when I retry tomorrow it will go much better.

Nice. Got one yesterday, that armor looks badass.

You do know you can just save in front of the box, open it, and reload
or kill yourself with the Godsbane and retry
until you get what you want, right? It's somewhat annoying time-wise, but pretty much guarantees success if you're patient enough to sit there and do it. I got the whole Twilight set in one go that way. I'm a bit saddened by the Twilight Greaves though, the chainmail skirt thing isn't very cool with the rest of the gear. Ended up rolling with my Dragon Forged Assassin's Breeches instead.

About Masterful Kill for the person asking about it earlier, it's pretty damn godly and does a lot of damage. It's definitely stronger than Snakebite (which I also use, my setup is Hundred Kisses/Snakebite/Masterful Kill) and actually more useful as it can be used on large enemies as well. In mobs or against large enemies, it's damn close to OP in my opinion.
