Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Thanks.

Oh and man, I really, really like this game. It is everything I was hoping it to be. The night/day system is fucking brilliant as well, it gives so much more sense of adventure. You really get the feeling of 'going out into the open' when venturing out of the city, and really want to get back before it gets dark as well.

Compared to Amalur this is so much more alive. I'm not following the story at all, but it doesn't really matter. It's weird, because the complaints were about this game feeling hollow, but I guess those complaints are about the story or something.

I'm maxing out Warrior and after that I'll think I'll try Assasin. Being a Warrior took some getting used to, but right now I feel like a badass one/two shotter of all things that have limbs, and it feelsgoodman.

The story does suck (I loved the endings though) but it's not the focus of the game and everything else is great to even care about the story.

Warrior is my 2nd favorite class as well (behind Mystic Knight). Wait till you start landing Arc of Deliverance, soooo good.

Is it so much better than arc of might? right now I'm already using arc of might that much because of the wait, and finding it sufficiently strong. From what I've seen, the wait in arc of deliverance is like three times longer, yo!

I'm really starting to feel like Warrior is one of the worst classes in the game...

Is there any other job that doesn't outshine it? I don't understand its worth when its only decent attack takes an hour to charge when in that time you could have done the same or more damage with any other class, and that's only if you manage to hit with your hourlong charge attack...

I didn't like it myself, due to its 3 abilities limit, but I didn't get to test out the skills since I played it on new game+ and didn't really bother with it.

My favorite class so far is Mystic knight and assassin

fuck i hate unpausible cutscenes, I need to peeeeee

As Warrior I take down most of the smaller enemies in either one or two hits, which is quite statisfying. THe bigger problem are the bigger ones, since climbing isn't really strong (attacking with hilt DOES take long) and there are only one or two skills that are good against the bigger ones. I have no idea to kill the Drake for example, and I was almost level 30. BUt other than that, the smaller enemies are all fucking dead as soon as I'm in front of them.

Then again, I can't compare vocations yet, and I still haven't even fought the Griffin ;)

I didn't really use Arc of Might that much tbqh (by the time I wanted to Deliverance was already available), but most of the time I never had much problems charging up Arc of Deliverance and the damage is insane (maybe Audacity and Clout really help too?).

Warrior's jumping attack is amazing and has the best range (you should get the Strider augment, Eminence, to make it even more powerful) and also has probably the best stagger rate, so abuse it.

Against the Drake all I used was Arc of Deliverance :) (my pawns were a Mage, Sorcerer and Ranger).

I planned to do a pure Warrior playthrough the 1st time I played the game, around level 50 I decided to switch because I realized I was missing out on so much stuff (and I have yet to try 3 vocations lol), so yeah, you should mess around with vocations to see what you like the most.

There's an augment for a Warrior where you get a 30% damage boost to your jumping attacks. I think it's pretty awesome since the range is good and you execute it quite quickly.

Its interesting to me that people think the story "sucks" or is lacking, having spent a long time playing the game its very apparent that there is a lot of story in the game, and its a pretty tightly put together tale.

For example, the whole business with Salomet's grimoire. It's nice that if you bump into Rowland being attacked by the bandits and save him, he spills on how he came to acquire it, why
-he's a salvation agent-
and exactly which bandits stole it. Similarly the hidden revelation that Mason
is working for the Faith
does a really nice job of tying all the strands of the plot together and actually giving the cast motivations for the actions.

The story in DD gets interesting in the last half, but everything else isn't fleshed out that well and the lore associated with some side-quests are lazily implemented.

Pretty much this. The last half is indeed pretty good (hence why I said I liked the endings), but the rest, not so much.

okay so im in the post game:

I just got enough wakestones. Now, if I hand over these wakestones the game just ends and I start new game plus? If I want to get good everfall equips and such, I should be farming this place instead of handing the items in? Also, if I beat the game, what happens to the inventory of my hired pawns?

Handing them over is the point of no return, and it will initiate the
final boss battle.

Yes, definitely stay in Everfall if you want the good stuff. Keep loot loot looting them chests.

If you beat the game and start NG+, the items/equipment from your Pawns will go straight to your storage.

Thanks, I decided I just want to beat the game...

speaking of which
what the hell do I do? I just stabbed Savan, and then I sat down on the throne and now I am invisible and walking through Cassardis. How the hell do I beat this game?

Use the Godsbane (you must have it in your inventory). Stab yourself.

God's had his chance.
So i finally bit the bullet and finished the game.
(had to grab the syneschal myself)
... went in and actually DID the cassardis missions this time. Dropped into this well that i had heard such evil about on peoples first time through. Felt like such a badass. Now working my way through the early game on a completely solo run.
I did change my pawn tho... made Vimes into a cute lil mage. Stocked her up with my best collected mage gear and then tossed her to the brine :D

I am so in <3 with this game.

Did you ever kill the Ur-Dragon?

In case someone's curious about the progress of my double sorc only playthrough, I just made it into post game last night. Grigori wasn't a problem (double high gicel LOL). Fighting hellhounds and succubi was very challenging, had to tweak the spell slots. Frazil finally comes into play, and comestion and maelstrom become useless. Evil eye was terrifyingly hard at lvl 60, melee and every spell does no damage. Had to rely solely on holy affinity and shooting the laser beams.

Metal golems still cannot be beaten. The only spell that works at this level is bolide, but casting that in that tiny river is next to impossible, and even then I need to rely solely on luck to get a hit.

Remember there's that RE6 demo this Tuesday for 360 owners of DD.

Wait, how do you activate the demo at all? I bought it on Amazon but didn't get any code for it for PS3. Did you guys get a code?

Got a question, what happens to my pawn when I start a new game? Do I have to make a new one?

I like warrior but the class is bad against Ur-Dragon. Really hate having to jump and swing at his wings because you can't climb it. They need to fix this class in the next DD game or an expansion. The next class I want to see is a dual wielding sword class. I hate daggers, lol.

I think the RE6 demo was a 360 bonus. You don't have to make your pawn again.

You can climb the dragon just as easily if you take the appropriate strider augments.

I mean, how do you even get RE6 demo onto the 360? The ps3 version had a sticker that says RE6 demo but I'm not even sure how i'll get it when the time comes.

And i'm 100% sure you can't latch onto his wings. Tried so many times and even tried climbing, it wouldn't let me go out far.

The 360 gave us a code which lets us download a token. It's supposed to remind us the demo is available when it comes.

Oh yeah as for the wings there really isn't much you can do. Fighter has the same problem I guess.

360 demo of RE6 is coming out this Tuesday, PS3 version around September (MS exclusivity deal, I think).

The download code should be in the back of your manual. You also need the game disc in order to activate the demo.

For an open world game with customizable characters, I think I'm quite happy with the modelling and how they look, the animated hair and capes are so awesome, too bad for all the god damn clipping!

They sometimes just look awkward in cutscenes though.

I'm a bit confused by this game. I like it a lot but there are things I just don't understand, like the quest
to search Quina, the girl who wants to save the main character (I quess it's a boy if your main char is a girl?). She's supposed to be in Witchwood and you take the quest in Cassardis the first time you come back in the village. The problem is if I try to reach Witchwood to go search for her it seems like I have to go for a road with an unbeatable enemy (I managed to kill all his scoundrels but he can 1HKO every member of my party at lv 10). So I thought it was too early to go for that quest, I continued with the quest to escort a carriage with the hydra head to the main city. Once I got there I took a quest in the pawn guild where I had to go in some kind of dungeon under the city. Managed to escape from the dungeon (and I ended up discovering that was actually what I was supposed to do, just escaping from the tentacular boss), and I got a message from a guard telling me the duke accepted me as a wyrm hunter and suddenly the quest to search for Quina authomatically got cancelled. What did I do wrong? :/

Certain npc quests open and close after certain main story mission, if you take that into consideration, the quest structure is actually kind of straight forward and linear, so for the Quina quest, you were suppose to do it before the pawn guild quest.

Board quests don't get cancelled so you could just pick them all up, keep checking as they usually add new ones often so you could do them while you're in the area along with the important quests.

The best thing about Dragon's Dogma is you can have relations with anyone regardless of their role, class, or social standing and/or gender.

I mean in what other game does the Duchess fall in love with a female assassin?!

Ok I understand this, I just don't get how I could do the quest at that level with an unbeatable foe barring the way (I managed to take like 1/20 of his life before my party was wiped)

Lvl 10 is a bit low imo. Yeah that fucker was hard, killed me a few times too. The game is hard at the beginning but gets way too easy later on.

You can outrun most enemies in this game, they eventualy run back to their spawn point. That could have been a solution I guess. Not a fun one, though. I know which guy you are talking about, I had to kite it for a while haha.

Probably your gears and levels, you get a few levels just traveling to gran soren, I know some having trouble doing it right away before that, and you could buy better gears at the shop.

OK, so I'm starting to become mildly interested in this game. Is it an open-world Monster Hunter-esque game or something? I can't really figure out what style it is...

It's an open world RPG with lots of exploration. Haven't played MH so can't comment on the similarities.

Pretty much an open world action rpg, it took a lot of ideas from other wrpgs and capcom's own action games, while doing a few unique things of its own. So you will probably find similarities on the moveset from games like dmc and some elements on spells from other wrpgs

Alright, cool...I'm at work, so I can't check - is there a demo on PSN by chance?

Yeah but it doesn't really show you what the game has to offer in terms of the open world. It does however give you a taste of the combat mechanics in the game, which are pretty excellent and the reason why I think this is the best open world RPG out there.

You can also customize your character and pawn in the demo and it'll carry over to the main game.
