Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Man, we've been asking for Hard Mode, not this. :/

I get a feeling this is just a taste of what to expect in whatever sequel we get.

That pretty much proves capcom is completely oblivious, I mean one of their highest reviews even mentioned the game being too easy outside of postgame and hoping they'd patch in a hard mode. Everyone even said the demo was a cakewalk :(

seeing how poorly the game did outside of Japan, I can see why they did it. They'd rather bring in more players than cater to people who have already bought it. Business decision. Maybe they can still do Hard mode down the line.

So I've put about 2 hours into it so far. Is there a fast travel system? The game feels like a weird mash of dragon age and dark souls, I'm having fun but feel I've missed some key element or game mechanic.

Like why do pawns pick up shit and I don't know how to give it myself so I can use those items for an enhancement, feel like I've missed a pawn related tool tip somewhere. Also I really wish there was damage numbers popping up over enemy heads, just because it's the type of feedback I like :)

Do like it though and It feels quite challenging as everything is doung plenty of damage and I've yet to find a good way to evade attacks but I'm sure I'll figure it out soon enough.

There's a fast travel but you need port crystals which you really only get 1 of them in the first playthrough, though you could ask someone to gift them to you on the web, they could gift through the pawn system (they could be bought at an expensive price in new game+), otherwise you could buy warp stones that warp you back to gran soren.

The merchant will automatically pull materials out of your inventory and storage for weapons/armors enchantment so just toss them all into the storage at the inn, pawns picking up stuff is based on their personality (inclination), which you could adjust at the chair at the inn and camps.

Finally completed the game last night. Wooowww. One-hundred and forty-three hours of gaming nirvana right there. This game hit all the right notes with me. Despite the low-key story, I actually found it more engaging than other games that purport to be story-driven. I grew attached to my main character, to my main pawn, and even to some of the friendly pawns I hired along the way.

Great, great ending credits, too. Really liked the style with which they were done.

Again, my game of the forever.

So, do quests in this game have any indication of how difficult they are before you set out on them? I've been getting my ass kicked a lot, and just now I was escorting Mercedes to the Shadow Tower, an area I had yet to travel to, and everything was going fine, right up until a chimera jumped on her, lol. So yeah, she died, mission failed. I'll make a note to only accept escort missions for areas I've already been to in the future. Also, is there any way to heal characters you're escorting? I couldn't find a way to give herbs to her, and my pawn mage seems reluctant to ever use healing spells, guess I got the wrong sort of mage?

Still, minor frustrations aside, I'm really enjoying this game so far. The initial demo failed to sell me, but I'm glad I picked up the game in the end, as it's a lot of fun. I love the tone, the atmosphere, the presentation, the art style and the music, and while the combat could be tighter (see Kingdoms of Amalur), I'm really enjoying the pawn mechanic for combat.

No ..the difficulty is in the area you're meant to go while doing those quests ...
In a way that's a problem because you don't know untill you try ..
Fortunatly there are only a few downsides to death while exploring so most people are fine.

My biggest problem with the game is that you don't know how the quests are affecting each other..
You can have some cancelled quest out of the blue if you go to the everfall to fast and this Will block many other things in the rest of the game ...

How does fighting the Ur-Dragon work when offline? I managed to shave off half his health bar before he ran off; the next time I meet him (offline), do I continue on his depleted health bar, or will I have to fight him from scratch?

Thanks. Killed him right now and got the Heaven's Key, suh-weeeet.

What level are you? I have been waiting to take on the Offline Ur-Dragon until I "complete" all the levels in Everfall. I am currently around level 62 right now and I am not sure what level I should be at before I even try the Ur-Dragon.

Uhm, I'm a bit unsure, I think level 82. But my pawns are über, one's lvl. 92 and the other one's lvl. Infinity (thanks Dave1988 <3).

Played a few hours, got to Gran Soren but now I'm a bit lost.

I picked up a couple of quests in town but, to finish one, I need way more money than I currently have, and the other- in the Everfall- I'm getting stuck on one group of undead I can't seem to get past.

I guess I should just go outside and get into some trouble until I can level up a bit and raise the dough but I'm finding even some of the baddies right outside the castle can be too hard for me to handle.

Some big lizards by the west gate ate me for lunch and some bandits hanging out by the other gate give me fits. I can avoid both pretty easily but I'm just not sure where i can go to pick on some creatures I'm more prepared for. Or si it just luck of the draw mostly for what shows up somewhere?

I have noticed that there are some definite spawn points- I have slaughtered some harpies that appear to respawn near the bandits.

The night scares the crap out of me. I really wish you could encamp if you're out in the wild.

God's had his chance.

Depleted. Not exactly sure if there is a time limit to when he will heal himself up or if you would need to connect online to get it done but you do not have to start from square one just because you couldn't get him deaded in one round. No worries.

Just make sure you don't connect to the game servers after loading your game as i'm fairly positive that this will make the Ur-Dragon load his online health stats and then if you were to pull the cord and try offline again he would likely be back to full.

Happy hunting!

And easy mode? I'm running solo trains on every beast in the game at this point except when I form super groups for fun (Current group: Assassin Leader with all Strider/Ranger female pawns... like a sexy robin hood/snoop dogg) If this shit wasn't so fantastic I would have stopped playing at 230 hours... as it stands i must have to have infinity levels.

I'm here to admit my stupidity. I've been playing games so long that I haven't read a manual in probably 15 years. Started playing this game, using an Archer-Mage, and wanted to use a bow. Got one, started using it, and after playing for 24 hours, finally realized that I don't always have to use the specialty shots assigned to the buttons, but that I can actually fire arrows nonstop with the right trigger. I'm a moron, the game suddenly just got a whole lot easier, and I felt an obligation to own up to my gaffe to my favorite community. Whew, I feel a whole lot better, and smarter...

That's like me not knowing you could do the "Hundred Kisses" dagger move while climbing enemies until I was on my 3rd playthrough.

Finally saw the end credits today. It could use some polish but it's such an awesome game at it's core. Big shame that it was largely ignored in the west and while I'm glad to hear that there is a strong desire to continue the series I fear what changes will be made to attract a wider audience. This has been my GOTY by far.

That's like me not knowing your heavy attack has a second attack by pressing and holding the heavy attack button until post game (1st playthrough though). Ok fine, your's is probably worst.

Did you guys not know mashing the buttons extend hundred kisses too? :p
and skyward lash

I really wished more moves could be used in the air and while climbing, it's such wasted potentials

I knew mashing hundred kisses extended the combo, but not skyward lash. I didn't/haven't used fighter as much

Just started the game and seemed to be hunting some kind of Dragon.....Getting further in and meeting other NPC's and they mentioned how the Wyrm is ''this way'' and they would be honored to show me the way.

Next thing I know I'm fighting a Chimera - Watching a cut scene involving a dragon coming through some kind of portal and now I'm creating my character.

Have I missed something here? Why did the opening sequence cut out like that?

I restarted my guy and have got a better grip this time. Actually managed to finish a couple of missions and beat down some bandits that were driving me nuts.

Do the enemies scale to your level?

No that's for badly designed games.. dragon dogma is actually good

So... I just beat the dragon...

And... Well... Let's just say that I didn't expect what followed.
Post-apocalyptic world, Gran Soren in ruins, the friggin' inn disappeared, the Duke who's still alive but who's trying to kill me, and now I'm in the abyss doing... I don't know what exactly, since I stopped there. Wow. What the heck.

You're in for an even bigger surprise once you're done with that.

So I just fought the online Ur-Dragon for the first time on my first playthrough as a lvl 50 assassin, I attacked him consistently (purple blood) and his health bar didn't move. =\

WHAAAAT. I didn't know this :-/.

Thanks!

I just did the
wyrmking
ring quest. Question:
The Duke couldn't open the chest, can I get whatever is in there later?
Also, regarding the Duke's wife:
does her questline affect the ending? I had heard there are multiple endings, but that first quest where she had me thrown in the dungeon left a bad impression, I'd rather leave her to her fate (I'm at the part where she wants me to save her from the northern mansion), but if there is no negative effect on the story, I'll do it

Just started this yesterday and man is it kicking my butt. Love the combat though. I think I just need better melee pawns. I made a mage as my main character but I feel like the game would be easier playing as a warrior first.

The mission structure in the game is a mess. You start a quest and it gives you no information to go on. Sometimes waypoints are on the map and sometimes they aren't. Just a confusing mess. I don't have time to figure out that I'm supossed to wait until night to do a quest when nobody tells me otherwise.
Why is the location of the first set of ambush bandits on the map but the rest aren't?
Maybe I'm spoiled by Skyrim. Maybe I'm being impatient, but I'm considering putting this game down for good. I'm loving everything else about the game.
