Or the announcement of online co-op. Seriously, playing this game with three friends would be mindblowing. With the riftstone system for bringing in pawns you even have a pretty good interface for it in place as well...

Hopefully DD2 will have it.

There's more to it than that, though I wish it could be added. Think about how the game acts when you pause it to use items, curatives, etc... That alone is a giant obstacle in multiplayer. I doubt we'll get it for this game, but like you I really hope the sequel has it.

Multiplayer would be cool, though I think they would only make it 2 players max. Pawns are a main feature of this story and gameplay so it have an entire campaign without them would be odd. A two player campaign with two main pawns would be pretty cool.

Multiplayer should be 4 players, 12 pawns.

Could have some exclusive online monsters like in Monster Hunter (Jhen Moran/Alatreon,etc).

Imagine 16 people climbing some creature even larger than the Ur Dragon.

That would be so cool.

Is there any way I can ditch Selene for the time being? I took her escort quest from the board and now she's just following me around wherever I go, even if I don't have the quest activated. She's getting on my fucking nerves, and died not fifty feet away from the quest completion point thanks to some stupid fucking dire wolves.

Jesus I'm fucking pissed right now.

If you accept the escort quest, that person will follow you until either you complete the escort quest, or they die (at which point you fail that quest). Once you fail the quest you don't have to worry about them following you around any more.

I accepted an escort quest for Ser Berne and ended up with a beefy warrior following my party around for pretty much the entire first third of the game, it was very handy :)

Kind of a late follow-up, but I randomly examined the Quest Board in Gran Soren's Inn and it gave me the option to cancel the quest. It went back to being posted on the board. Good news I suppose.

Late to the party, but hopefully going to nab this sometime in the coming weeks. What's the verdict on format of choice? Only really interested in framerate.

EDIT: Apologies. Just noticed the performance analysis link, in the OP. Though if things have changed with patches, I'd appreciate the heads up.

Yea 360 is the definite version for framerate, don't think it has changed

Can't wait for hardmode, seeing that they're actually taking their time with it, it could be something worthwhile.

Don't remember there was a date, they said before the end of the year or something....

Is this getting a GOTY edition or something? The game has barely dropped in price. I want to get this, but I'm tight on money right now. :\

I've waited this long, I can wait a bit longer. Black Friday isn't that far away.

A GOTY is probably a long time away - the first major expansion isn't even going to drop until next year, and who knows what's coming after that. I feel like Capcom's going to be supporting this game for a while, meaning you're going to have to wait for a sale price to get this game cheap.

Been looking for a deal on this thanks for the heads up.

Just curious I've never ordered from them before. How long does shipping usually take? Ordering from United States. It says "up to 21 days" does usually take the full time?

Should depend on what kind of shipping you get. I made the mistake once of getting the super cheap shipping, Air Economy I think it was called.

Ended up having to wait a month before I got it. I know they warn you before hand but I was stupid.

If you're not planning on playing it any time soon then go for it. Otherwise, make sure the shipping you get is fast.

Is there any specific spot in Cursewood where i can find Skeleton Lords?i keep spamming ferrystones to go there at night but i'm only finding tons of wolves, bandits and the regular Chimaira.

Seriously i'm sick of killing wolves every 5 seconds. They really overdone it with this type of enemy.

Blame me for not going through the entire topic, but I figured you guys wouldn't mind helping anyway.

DD is definitely on my list of games to play and try out, but I was wondering a few things.

Whats the deal with that expansion? Seems like theres no info on it aside from it being announced.

Anyway the real question is how would guys explain this game to some one who enjoys he Souls games? Since from what I gathered a lot of the previews are always comparing it to skyrim but it seems like it has more in common with Dark Souls or am I just crazy?

DD comes off like a combination of an open world elder scrolls type game and a Dark Souls, due to the combat. The combat is very techy - deliberate, with complex strategy surrounding enemy combinations and movement. The world is open and dynamic to a degree, with changing weather, random events you may encounter in the field. There are quests to take, including a lot of side quests. Like Souls, it focuses heavily on combat and exploiting the environment over overt storytelling. It is not as unforgiving and difficult - but the difficulty curve of the game is somewhat unbalanced, becoming too easy towards the end. That is why there's a patch incoming with a rebalanced hard mode.

It has a level cap of 200 and you can new game+ - until the hard mode patch, the problem is that enemies don't level up, though a few tougher enemies are placed around the overworld.

Souls players should enjoy how chunky and dangerous the combat feels (even without the genuine difficulty of a Souls game). And the exploration angle is well done. For example, at night you really can't see hardly anything, and must carry a lantern with oil supply. There's a real danger of running out of oil between towns for instance, leaving you in the dark with enemies like packs of wolves.

The biggest claim to fame it has is the pawn system, which sort of echos inviting ghosts to assist you in Souls. Here though the pawns are AI that are automatically uploaded from everyone's game to a netherworld. You make one permanent personal pawn when starting a game. You can hire two more for a full party. Your pawn gets distributed over the network and you get rewards every time someone rents him/her out and uses them. Pawns learn where secrets are, learn how to fight kinds of enemies, and learn bosses. A rented pawn may come with experience that's useful.

In the end there's really nothing quite like it, it did carve out its own identity. Just needed a bit more polish and balance. There's hope that the difficulty patch and expansion will flesh the game out. It does suddenly have a lot of weird but interesting plot in the endgame btw, so there is a payoff for pushing forward to the end.

Edit: I should add that the game's other claim to fame/infamy is that it purposefully limits fast travel. You've got to hoof it everyone, but you can slowly build up a network of expensive teleportation stones. If played right, you can effectively build your own fast travel network. But the game wants you to work for it, and a lot of the fun is in not skipping the trip and seeing what you find along the way. The game world is big, but not quite as large as say, Skyrim's total map. There's a number of underground areas and connecting shortcuts to find, and a lot of secrets. For some people this is time wasting (not having "normal" fast travel). Others argue that it's part of the identity of the game.

The Fell Lord spawns right around the Chimera that's below the female bandit camp.

If you wait until post-game, 2 will spawn inside the shack along the mountain road, and 1 or 2 more (along with other skeletons) near the tree above the last gate out of the road.

Thanks fot all that.
Basically covered everything I was going to ask.
Definetly sounds like this is right up my alley then!

Why did they put the demo infront of the game? And why did the dragon speak Spanish or something in the opening??

Anyways liking it so far, I got to the part where you ship the hydra head off but I still don't really understand pawns.
My one is fine and I upgrade her gear but what's the deal with the hiring ones?
Also someone on my f list had a level 16 to hire for free (I was 8) is hiring someone above your level just going to make the game easier?

Also how does healing work?

Did run off the road and died maybe 12 times trying to kill some bandits (armour dude was stupid strong) did it in the end but yeah going off the road ain't no joke, sod doing it in the dark!! I sprinted like a little girl when the sun started going down haha

Other pawns are able to assist you as you play. They are pawns of other players that have certain knowledge of enemies, maps, quests. As they venture with you, they're able to gain more knowledge. The pawns each have their own characteristic based on how their main arisen plays: the pawn can either be agreesive, attack enemies at distance, loot anything they see, etc.

Pawns that are hired with the same level or lower than you (the arisen, not your pawn) are usually free. Anything higher than your level will have a fee; however, if someone on your friends list has a pawn, regardless of their level it will always be free. Depending how much higher of a level than you, the game could be a breeze. However, seeing that you're level 8 and your friend's pawn is level 16, it isn't that much easier, iirc.

The beginning of the game is usually difficult because of the learning curve. You might notice that mashing buttons will not be enough to kill off enemies. In the dark, enemies tend to be tougher. And that dude that is stupid strong, is definitely tough while starting out, you'll need a high enough stagger wpn to stagger him.

The way to heal, you can use healing items in your inventory: just open up the menu and heal. Or if you have a mage pawn with a healing skill, he/she can heal you on the field.

I tried answering the best I can so I hope this helps. If you got more specific questions, PM me. I've played through this game enough, although its been almost 3 months since I last played

upgrade hired pawns by trading them in for better ones whenever you want
their level can sometimes be misleading though
always check their stats (due to differences in gears), skill sets (mage without anodyne is a waste) and character traits (guardian is not very good)
the later is especially important (also applies to your own pawn)

healing is done by items (best option) or with a mage (don't run away if you see cure spell being cast on you, it's an aoe location based spell)

You should be wary of hiring overleveled pawns (especially free ones belonging to your friends); as you'll be receiving less exp per kill and could ultimately nerf your pawn and Arisen.

I put almost 300 hours into this game before getting the platinum. Can't wait for the expansion. Hope it adds a lot of content!
