Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Do you set markers and then they disappear or is it game set markers that just disappear?

It sets them. Sometimes I select a quest and it doesn't set them though. Or they are there but you can barely see them because they are dimmed.

Also, Rivyn mentioned no way of being able to tell how difficult a quest is. That's a big one!

It takes some getting used to, really. It was not there in Skyrim but that was because of the sheer fact that every enemy levels with you. Most of the old RPG's were like Dragon's Dogma. There is only oné way to find out if you are strong enough and that is by actually doing the quest.

I don't know where witchwood is and I'm not going there at lvl10, i hope
quina is gonna be ok
I've been trying at level 9 but
bandits
keep wrecking my party specifically
the ones with shields
who keep wrecking me in maybe 3 hits. It's funny though because I cleared the well quest without too much problem at maybe level 6.

This game just screams sequel, sequel, sequel! It is not that this game is bad but there are so many things that can be improved and so I really hope this game sells enough copies for Capcom to warrant Dragon's Dogma 2.

What a thoroughly enjoyable game. It definitely does NOT hold your hand and the more things you try and the more you push yourself to explore...this game really rewards you for doing so.

I managed to clear the Witchwood quests at level 8 but I was level 10 by the time I actually got out of the Witchwood.

...holy fuck...that was stressful. There's more than just wolves, spiders...and a witch in the Witchwood so be warned. Also...pretty sure I'll be going back to the Witchwood at some point considering what I found there.

Oh...actually, guess who has a pawn that is a grizzled Witchwood veteran?

<--- this guy

Look me up on XBL (you can search by gamertag) and you can use my guy. He's a mage. Name's Iolus.

MAN...I can't wait to play more of this game. SO good. Every fight matters...or atleast it seems to for me due to my scrub-like skills.

I mowed them down.

I have a shield spec'd fighter.
Fire spec'd mage - pawn

And two other pawns. A sword and board fighter and a skirmisher.

I found grabbing them really facilitated with beating their asses. Crazy you beat the well at level 6!

: O

I am just about go down now at level 10. The little fellas at the bottom of the well are NO joke.

WOW I am loving the game so far not perfect but man do I love the Skyrim / God of war aspect to it! (yes I think its like that combo) however one thing I dislike aqlot is the inability to tell my helpers to STOP and wait.

So many time I wanted to sneak forward and look to only have them run ahead of me and start attacking everything! Is there a way to have the follow me not lead me?? I tried the learning chair but that just seems to control their talking so much.

Boycotting this game until the workplace harassment suit has been sorted.

If you think Capcom is the only corporation that has dodgy shit going on at their company, you're wrong...

...and if you bother to boycott every company that has employees mistreating other employees; well you won't be buying much of anything.

So the point of monikers is so kids won't see naughty names? But isn't this rated M?

It isn't necessarily just for kids though. Some people probably want only more "realistic" names, so they just go ahead and set the parental filter, and then they only see the monikers. Trust me, after seeing countless "Slutbag", "Meatytits", "CumDumpster", "CuntPunt" you'll consider it too.

My striders bow is so weak, I hope the ranger can actually dish out some pain with a bow.

I really like the pawn chat, which I figured was going to annoy me.

Perhaps the companies who commit atrocities in the workplace would be more willing to crack down on this kind of abuse if the consumers would take 5 seconds and think about these kinds of choices?

The apathy you show in your justification of the alleged events disgusts me. Can you imagine if such a suit was filed at Silicon Knights or Epic, for example? Just because it's a japanese game doesn't mean that gamers shouldn't responsibly take a stand against it.

Having a shield would definitely help since as a strider I do little damage to those guys. I usually try to ensnare them or get cheap shots in while they're fighting my pawns (or just fall back as much as possible) but it seems like my pawns keep getting overwhelmed. The funny thing is it's not frustrating at all. I'm actually enjoying going back and trying a new strategy.

I think the only reason I cleared the well was because my pawns kept them distracted the WHOLE time while I wailed on them in relative safety. I did have to revive a couple of them though. Good times.

Is there any sort of fast travel in this? I'm fine with it either way, but currently need to go back to the starting town for a minute and don't really want to run all the way back. :)

Also, right at the beginning of the game when you walk out onto the steps after you
wake up from the dragon attack
, (next part is not a spoiler at all, but marked for those who like to explore and be surprised) if you jump down
onto the cliff below the stairs, there is a cave with three chests that hold a Seeker's Token and below that cliff is another cave with a gravestone with some sort of wine.

I finished the "Courier" mission with 83 hps. Felt completely epic and I was drained at the end. Even with its myriad warts this game's core is very compelling

Personally, I think one of the D-Pad options for the NPC's should be "Kill yourselves". This way, when they piss me off I can get some gratification as they seppuku themselves.

What made you fail it?

Probably the same thing that made me fail a quest - going to the capital. Apparently, once you do the escort quest that takes you to the capital any quests you had from the first town are automatically failed. You never get told that, though until you fail it and are like "WTF?"

"disgusts" you, yeah? You're cute.

Keep fighting the good fight.

You're making a difference.

I think...I'm not sure...but I think that when guys are taking a defensive stance behind their shields, I can bat their shields aside with my own shield. It's so bloody chaotic at times, I'm not completely certain. I know making a "tank" as my main probably won't be the most dynamic way of playing the game BUT...I'm a gunlance player in Monster Hunter. I love huddling behind a shield and taking massive hits. xD

I realize it isn't considered to cool to take a stand for human rights on a video game message board but I'm proud of my decision.

Also, it just so happens that I am particularly cute.

Please keep this stuff in that harassment thread, don't wanna shit this one up with that story.

Anyway, the game is amazing. Played for probably 7 or so hours yesterday.. I spent like 2 hours in the first town alone just running in houses and tossing shit around lol. Had way too much fun with that.

Getting to Gran Soren and running on the rooftops like I'm Ezio was pretty damn fun, too. Can't wait to hop in tonight.

Amazon emailed me my code for the weapon pack last night and I used it this morning, downloaded it and the game told me about it as I logged in, something about newly acquired DLC. The problem is I see nothing in game. It's not in my inventory or anything. Is there some place I need to go to access the DLC?

EDIT: Nevermind. They put it in storage.

It isn't about being cool. It's about efficacy. You are so passionate about human rights that your "big idea" is to avoid making a $60 purchase?

You're why society is as great as it currently is.

Maybe you can update your facebook status while you're at it with something inspiring?

...anyway...you're missing out on an enjoyable game.

FYI: if you buy the Metamorphosis item from the Rift Shop, you have to exit to the main menu to use it. I was thinking I got swindled out of 5000rc by the guy lol

Is there a better version of the Fighter Class later on?

I love the sword and shield gameplay so would Mystic Knight be the logical upgrade for me? I want to be pretty defensive so Assassin looks to be out and Warrior looks to be too offensive.

I think I saw an advanced class called "Warrior".

Man, now I need to go back there and grab that stuff. Such a long journey.

It wasn't anything spectacular but it clued me in immediately at the start of the game that the developers are hiding shit everywhere.

My brain ties into knots over how much I probably walked past in the Witchwood.

I half really want to get this game but worried i'm going to be way to frustrated with it :/

This is no Demon/Dark Souls frustration we are talking about here. Not by a long shot. The thing people seem to forget is that this game does not show you which quest is for which level, so they enter a region where enemies are a lot of levels higher then you and your party. The end result is that you will get destroyed in only oné or two hits. This is different with Demon/Dark Souls where each enemy, no matter which region, is deadly if you are not careful.

On PS3 the default act of taking a pic saves it to your Photos folder. Check on your 360, it's probably the same. But be warned: they are of HORRENDOUS quality.

So on ps3, if you export to a USB, the quality is the same as exporting it to facebook?

I kindof disagree.

Demon's/Dark Souls and Dragon's Dogma really take off the training wheels and force you to pay attention and accept that sometimes you're going to get in over your head.

I'm paying just as much attention while playing this game as I was when I played Dark Souls. It's stressful and I enjoy that a great deal.

I'd say that people who found Demon's/Dark Souls frustrating will most likely find Dragon's Dogma frustrating as well.

I've been trying at level 9 but
bandits
keep wrecking my party specifically
the ones with shields
who keep wrecking me in maybe 3 hits. It's funny though because I cleared the well quest without too much problem at maybe level 6.
I tried it a couple times this morning, thinking I could throw one of them off the cliff, but I couldn't seem to grab anyone. Just run past them - the enemies in the Wildwood are much easier. It seems like you're supposed to run past the
bandits
.

Has anyone with the PS3 version gotten "post to twitter" working? It just makes me sign in over and over.

I'm thinking about starting over as a fighter (maybe moving on to mystic knight). I like to be in the think of it and I did enjoy the prologue as a fighter. Plus my guy needs some facial adjustments and a name change lol. REALLY wish you could have multiple character slots.

Man - I am loving this game. The battle is so much more satisfying than 90% of RPG games out there.

Anybody have tips for making money fast? - Usually the answer in W(style)RPGs is to do side quests but I am so aprehensive at this point about taking on quests that I am not strong enough to complete, that I am low on G.

I don't know if you want to run past them. If you do, and they follow...you'll eventually run into wolves on the way to the Witchwood. Then you're fighting the wolves and them...not fun.

Speaking of
bandits
. Anyone see the
stronghold
off to the right on the way to the Witchwood? My main pawn pointed it out. I was tempted to go explore but...well...yeah. I was afraid.

REALLY wish you could have multiple character slots.

Same. Not sure why Capcom did it the way they did but...well...Capcom.

I only got in a couple of hours last night, but I can already tell this is going to be a game I will love.

I did expect a bit more polish, though. The menus in particular are a bit unwieldy, and the texture resolution/detail is quite low in many areas, resulting in some really ugly looking stuff.

The one thing that is near unforgivable is how they handle death. Maybe it's just me, but I had figured the game autosaved constantly or worked like an MMORPG and I was sure in for a rude awakening when I died and lost a bunch of progress. I thought I would simply resurrect in town or at a checkpoint, but instead I actually have to load my last save. Very weak. It's even worse since manually saving on the PS3 seems to take something like 30 seconds each time.

Anyway, I think it's a cool game, but damn I sure wish there was a PC version. Graphical quality and performance issues aside, simple things like being able to hit "M" for the map, "J" for quests, "I" for the inventory, and "F5" for a quick save would make this so much more playable.

The biggest frustration for most people is that every single enemy can kill you with a hit or two. This is not present in Dragon's Dogma because the enemies are leveled the same as you or even lower, unless you visit a region that you are not supposed to be at as of yet. It was oné of the things I really hated about Demon Souls and quickly became oné of the first of many reason to completely abandon the game because I just could not handle such hardcore frustration. Not to mention that each kill has you wander around in Ghost form which has around half your health, and the experience you gained will be lost forever. That is also oné of the things that is not present in Dragon's Dogma.

I got my ass handed to me in the early dungeon
below the pawn joint.
Turns out the mage pawn I spent good crystals on had zero active skills. No heals for me.

I love the difficulty though. I feel like I have a lot to learn. But I am wondering if I can even get out of there alive. may have to restart....

That mage is useless, should check out details on pawns before enlisting them, leave it for dead and run out of that dungeon.

Still in the first town. Am I able to sleep at my house?? Stupid question I know.

Nope, only at Inns

Pretty sure you have to stun them before you can grab them so that might be your problem. Interesting theory though.

Bandits could sometimes be a little brutal, I feel that they have a more balanced party than me most of the time... their striders are assholes

Seriously! Every time I snuck up on one of their fighters, one of their striders would gank me from behind mid combo. Karma I guess lol.

Their stiders are such jerks. xD

One just kept kiting me...until my main pawn took matters into his own hands and blasted him with a fire spell.

The game has some flaws but this is definitely one of my brighter points this gen.

I didnt get to play too much last nite...still in the first town. Im a little confused about the quests. I took on that early one, where you
have to find the flowers for that lady.

When i went to the menu and made it my active quest, you can hit a button to "show on map", and i did that....but it didnt seem to visibly highlight anything. Then when i went back to the game, the little map in the lower corner didn't show anything either. Did i do something wrong, or am i just not getting how that works?
