Dreamcast Action RPGs

Record of Lodoss War?
Damn you, I was so excited to be the first to recommend this game. So take this as a second high recommendation, a VERY fun and satisfying game.

Sword of the Berserk is also very sweet. But it's not an ARPG, just a beat-em-up.

Elemental Gimmick Gear. Get it. It is different. The good kind of different.

Don't worry, it also comes in English flavour.

Record of Lodoss War ---> I own it. And I hate it, big time. It looks like it's a Saturn game and it plays like a bag of tissues in the bra of your girlfriend...

Lodoss War is a boring Diablo clone, unlike E.G.G., which is an actual ARPG with a strange story and strange graphics ... and it also happens to play pretty well!

Anyway, since you don't have much choice on DC, just get them both. :)

Yes to both questions.

It reminds me a lot of older PC games in its writing (witty lines, whatnot). A fun combat system, etc. Not a particularly long game, but given the price you could probably pick some DC games up in a bargain bin raid, it's more than worth the price per hours of gameplay ratio.

What, fun games aren't comforting? Don't mind that sudeki slight, that's the same man who's trying to trick you into playing EGG. Next he'll tell you to play Evolution.

I've played Record of Lodoss War. Got to the cave where I had to rescue some people. The game got rather difficult around that time (hordes of enemies) and the actual cave was a bit difficult to navigate. Enough so that it was frustrating. I'd say the game is worth getting, but only if you absolutely have to play an ARPG on the DC.

Whether or not you can call that "English" is debatable, but yes, it does come in a version with As and Bs and Cs instead of squiggly-lined gibberish. :)

I enjoyed both E.G.G. (overall decent, though it has rough spots) and Lodoss War (ugly as ass at first, but motherfucking addicting once it clicks).

I have Silver but have not tried it yet. Well, I did give it a half-hour once. Looked mediocre but worth trying longer.

If you don't mind the fact that it's not in english, Napple Tale comes highly recommended. Not an ARPG per se, but it's a platformer with RPG elements. Unlike EGG or Lodoss Wars, this game is far better than mediocre :D

I second this. Awesome game, great designs and a YOKO KANNO SOUNDTRACK. It's a game that any DC gamer would be proud to have in their library. :D

EGG was really cool...

Beautiful visuals, fun gameplay, great music, and a classic feel. Well worth your time...

The writing is pretty low grade, though, and there ARE a few rough spots. I don't know why so many are down on the game, though. What were the complaints? I thought it was a suprisingly solid ARPG...

Napple Tale rocks as well.

Draconus: Cult of the Wyrm, anyone? Anyone? It's really short, though. Then there's D2, which is not quite as good, but absolutely enormous. And, uh, Shenmue.

Those don't really fit the genre (D2 and Shenmue especially). I enjoyed Draconus myself, but even back then, it was kind of a technical mess (awful slowdown and whatnot). Doubt it holds up well today...
