DRIVECLUB: 30 minutes of new Beta footage

No I don't have a PS4.

I just mixed all the samples I could get from the different videos/streams. I also used Shazam.

Not having a PS4 will be a problem if they don't release the soundtrack since i won't be able to rip it...

WTF does content mean in a racing game anyway? lol

Do we need side missions now for our racers?

Give me lots of tracks, a good amount of fast cars, competent AI to race against, beautiful scenary to gawk at, great sense of speed that has you gripping your controller tighter going down straightaways into S turns and good music to jam to while cutting seconds off my best time and we are golden.

1) Variation in cars. Just having all sports cars that have very similar feel is not good. They need muscle cars, SUVs etc
2) Racing Modes: This is where GT, Forza etc excels.
3) Track Types: Elevation changes, Track surfaces and other variations and surprises

Drive club 5 locations and mostly flat tracks doesnt give the big budget AAA feel. It has the same issue as Destiny. Great engine, fantastic core mechanism..

The shadow thing is probably due some of the shadow buffer's geometry being affected by LOD which isn't configured properly based on the camera/car angle.

Oh ok. They are releasing the soundtrack for sure :)

Agree on all of this (though I've seen plenty of elevation differences in DC), and while I don't know all of DriveClub's modes I think they're pushing for variation in driving conditions (lighting, visibility and weather), in progression (style and precision), and hoping that player created challenges can keep things fresh. Considering how addictive rivals mode in the Forza games can be, even with static tracks and conditions, I think it's a pretty good bet.

And these environments, and these cars, and these conditions, and that sound... man oh man.

3/3 on that front.

I want to see the footage that you have been seeing, because the footage I've been seeing shows great track geometry. Full of dips and bumps, inclines and declines, negative and positive camber. All of this is evident in every GIF and every gameplay video that's been released. I'll give a few examples now:

So, yeah....

The flat comment is very weird because just watching a few DC videos will show you that the opposite is true. There seems to be quite a bit of elevation changes in nearly every track. Including many corners that will be blind if you're in the cockpit view.

Yup.

Some people just want to shit on a game. To the point where they'll say something that can immediately be called out as BS if you take the time to watch a single gameplay clip. Variety in track geometry is one of the things I immediately notice whenever I watch DC gameplay, so someone saying they are "flat" is just ridiculous to me.

Bullshit

And 55 tracks at launch with more being released for free is nothing to scoff at.

Edit: Apparently I'm a bit late to the "coldone doesn't know what the **** he's talking about party."

There are enough cars and track variations. Complaining just to complain for nothing.

Good lord this sounds wonderful.

That last gif is why gifs shouldn't be made from highly compressed YT footage. It looks awful. The car doesn't even look like it's on the road, it almost looks like it's floating along the track.

It will look like that no matter what the quality of the footage is. Shadow is in front of the car in that segment. Also, that GIF was not meant to demonstrate graphics, but a counter point to "flat tracks". Agree with the gamerscore comment being unfair, though.

All he was doing is pointing out that saying that the roads are flat is simply incorrect, and that gif does a good job of showing that.

You can still clearly see the changes in camber roughly 3/4 of the way through the GIF. Whether or not the car looks like it's on the track because of the quality of the GIF is another matter entirely.

So, if I understand this correctly, his opinion is being dismissed because he has a 100k gamerscore?
Let me try to translate his shit for you:
En fait comparé a mes premières impressions d'il y a un an ben ça n'a malheureusement pas trop changé : C'est juste chiantissime.
Actually, compared to my first impressions from last year, it sadly didn't change much: it's just boring as fuck.

Music is shitty, you're dropped directly into a race, then on a menu... nothing happens. In GT you pass driving tests, earn money, etc... Here, nothing, you're just making one race after another, winning points that unlock vehicles you don't even choose; Let's talk about the first championship: India. 2 tracks ... but it's actually the same you're just enduring reverse the 2nd time... there are only 5 locations, 3 race types (race, drift, time trial) and that's all! Indeed, I guess the PS+ version will be more than enough.

Cette putain de déception.
Graphiquement correct sans plus même si parfois en vue intérieure c'est vraiment pas mal ... parfois moins.

That fucking disappointment.
Graphically correct but not more, even if the cockpit view is sometimes pretty good... sometimes less.

Resultats des courses : le polo driveclub qui reste cool bien que mal taillé.
Le jeu sera vite oublié. vivement la note GK.

As a result: the DriveClub polo shirt is cool, although badly shaped.
The game will be quickly forgotten. Can't wait for the Gamekult mark.

There's a difference between having an opinion on a game and shitting on it.
Here, he's just shitting on the game and the fact he has a 100k gamerscore may explain why he seems to have an agenda.

Does anyone know when reviews go live? I may actually go get some popcorn and just hit refresh on GAF.

Pretty pathetic we actually know beforehand the DriveClub review thread is going to be horrible. No matter the actual review scores.

Just look at the madhouse that was the Destiny review thread. From the replies you would of thought the game scored in the 50's and was called one of the shittiest things in history.

That Destiny thread was incredibly bad. I mean, people were really offended by the game, and quite a few seemed to be upset by the mere fact that a lot of people were actually enjoying playing it.

I lost it when one poster wrote something about demanding that Bungie issue a public apology. The thread certainly delivered in entertainment value and I'm sure DC will be similar (hello, corridor racer).

So good. The schadenfreude will be strong that day.

Just to be clear, I've purchased DC on PSN, I just like witnessing self immolation. No idea why people take reviews so seriously, especially since it seems most journalists can't drive worth shit.

What makes you think this? Is there something special about DC that would make it a unique situation?

There's 55 tracks, what does it matter if they're only in 5 different countries?

So strange, it seems we're at the find a low number to complain about content stage.... "You can only drive 1 car at a time."

WTF does content mean in a racing game anyway? lol

Lack of content in a racer would probably tend to bore many standard consumers. Understand that people outside of Neogaf and many other gaming forums have different thoughts on this. Good tracks, AI, and music are all good things, but for the average gamer, when you unlock all of the cars, what will be there for you to do? I encountered this problem on many racing games. I would play the game a-lot, unlock the cars, do time trials, race online a bit, and shelf it. I think some extra content is necessary for racing games to be long lasting.

1) Variation in cars. Just having all sports cars that have very similar feel is not good. They need muscle cars, SUVs etc

Valid statement. Variety of cars in a racing game can draw groups of people to it. Usually, when someone sees that a game has the car that they own or want to buy in it, they tend to gravitate to it. SUVs would be interesting. People should understand that SUVs aren't all that slow ;)

2) Racing Modes: This is where GT, Forza etc excels.

These are the same thoughts I had. I want this game to simply have more modes.

3) Track Types: Elevation changes, Track surfaces and other variations and surprises
There are elevation changes in Driveclub, though the thing that I think makes them less evident is how the camera follows the car, the elevation changes are there. Some racing games tilt the camera down when you're driving down a mountain to give a larger sense of scale and the feeling that you're going far. Driveclub has a fairly static camera from what I've seen in the gameplay and gifs.

DriveClub--5-claves.gif

Notice how the camera kind of just bounces when the car goes over the hills.

Sure, the tracks in Driveclub can be questioned, but the tracks aren't exactly flat. I'm sure the things that you want are on par with many others like myself think and want.

Yup.

I don't exactly think people want to shit on the game... People just have thoughts about it, and want people to see them. Coldone didn't exactly shit on the game, he was just voicing what he wanted to see in it. There is thick line between shitting on a game and appraising it. Coldone is just saying that he got mixed feelings from the game. Posting links to gameplay, and GIFs over and over again isn't going to do much. If someone responds with thoughts like Coldones, at least break down his thoughts and explain to him/she why you think they're wrong. Posting a gameplay and saying 'HERE, watch this!' isn't going to change how people perceive a game. Driveclub doesn't look flat, but what Coldone said is what he thinks.

What? I think you misread Coldone's comment. Coldone said he/she thinks the tracks look flat, not the game...what better way to prove him/her wrong than by posting GIFs that clearly show otherwise? Coldone said something that simply isn't true, I posted GIFs to prove otherwise. That's really all that was needed.

I'm pretty sure the DriveClub review thread will be pretty heavily moderated. Just a hunch!

I'll send chocolates. Everything you guys do is appreciated.

I hear most cars only have one set of headlights. One! Absolutely scandalous.

Did you really say Drive club needs SUVs? Lol, this isn't Motorstorm or Horizon...Also, instead of just saying it needs more racing modes, give examples.....

It's like the narrative now is to try and find anything other games have, that Motorstorm doesn't, and then use that as an argument as to its quality....

Motorstorm cannot be every single racing game in one, the next argument I expect is that it doesn't have cops chasing you or that it doesn't have floating cars...

Here, he's just shitting on the game and the fact he has a 100k gamerscore may explain why he seems to have an agenda.
What fact? That picture was taken 5 years ago. In that time a lot could've happened. And so what if his GS is 100K+ ? Perhaps he has multiple platinums. Why does the amount of GS/Trophies matter?

You're grasping to make his post look worse than it is.

....it looks awful? Really?
I have browsed your post history. :o

Is everyone going to play this with the DS4? From what I can tell it seems that Sony has bungled racing wheel compatibility with PS4.. are there any wheels that are cross-compatible with PS4 and PC?

That Destiny thread was incredibly bad. I mean, people were really offended by the game, and quite a few seemed to be upset by the mere fact that a lot of people were actually enjoying playing it.

I lost it when one poster wrote something about demanding that Bungie issue a public apology. The thread certainly delivered in entertainment value and I'm sure DC will be similar (hello, corridor racer).

Wait, what? That seriously happened? Oof.

So strange, it seems we're at the find a low number to complain about content stage.... "You can only drive 1 car at a time."

I for one demand a Galaga-like system where I can deliberately wreck my first car to get two tandem-cars.

Not really.

It can have great graphics and look realistic, but those qualities do not always equate to good gameplay: the roads can be too narrow for good passing lanes, the contrast between gray sky and gray road can be hard to discern, the distracting sudden lighting changes, the cockpit view is constrained, the bumper car collisions take you out of the game, the 3 second off track limit with invisible walls, the fade to restart when venturing off road, repeating textures and buildings (100 observatories in an area??) etc. In short, realistic does not always equal good game.

Lmao. How can people type this stuff with a straight face? Talk about nitpicking.

You're grasping to make his post look worse than it is.
Yes, sure, a guy saying the only good thing in DriveClub is the polo shirt has no agenda. At all.

And I case it's not clear, I'm not attacking the man because he has a 100K GS (whatever GS means) or because of the games he plays.
If anything, I've translated his sayings so that you can make your opinion based on what he says and not this image leading to some fanboy accusation.
The fact is, 100K+ GS or not, he's full of shit.
