DRIVECLUB: 30 minutes of new Beta footage

That's not even a nitpick, it's a straight up troll comment lol. Everyone already knows gray skies and gray roads can't coexist.

Lol. Seriously, though, who the fuck would have trouble discerning a road from the SKY, just because they're the same colour? What an idiotic, and incredibly telling, thing to post.

Pretty pathetic we actually know beforehand the DriveClub review thread is going to be horrible. No matter the actual review scores.

Just look at the madhouse that was the Destiny review thread. From the replies you would of thought the game scored in the 50's and was called one of the shittiest things in history.

This game is going to be shred to pieces by reviewers, most of whom don't and will not give two cents about the physics and handling of vehicules, or the layout of the tracks...
They will dock points for the lack of content -compared to its rivals- and the perceived limitation of not racing through a cornfield...
It does not sound logical, but I bet that that is what going to happen.
It's not like anybody should care, since we will have access to the PS+ version anyway...

It can have great graphics and look realistic, but those qualities do not always equate to good gameplay: the roads can be too narrow for good passing lanes, the contrast between gray sky and gray road can be hard to discern, the distracting sudden lighting changes, the cockpit view is constrained, the bumper car collisions take you out of the game, the 3 second off track limit with invisible walls, the fade to restart when venturing off road, repeating textures and buildings (100 observatories in an area??) etc. In short, realistic does not always equal good game.

Are you talking about the Chile track? With the repeating observatories?

That's based on the La Silla Observatory in Chile?

Are people being intentionally stupid or what when it comes to nitpicking this game? Holy crap!

So, I'm pretty pumped about club racing...Is the max race count 12? Does that mean we can race 6v6? I dont remember racing games doing that before. Should be fun, especially since you dont necessarily have to be 1st

I think this game will have a solid gameplay and will be fun that is enough for at least 80 metascore, I bet this game will be bettween 80 and 85 metascore.

I'd hate to do this, but check out this guy's post history. Nothing but XB1/FH2 content, and some snarky PS4 related drive by posts.
It's a shame too, plenty to love for everyone.. no need for this.

I'm betting it will be between 65 and 75. I'm personally really looking forward to it though, just do not expect it to sit well with reviewers.

Lmaooo detectiveGaf is truly best Gaf.

"100 observatories in an area" - Talk about hyperbole and how is that even realistic? Am pretty sure there is no where in the world that has so many in one area that's forgetting how inaccurate the comment is in the first place in relation to DC.

"repeating textures and buildings" - Yh please show us games that don't have this.

I am fucking DYING over here holy shit

Driveclub really genuinely brings out the most hilarious criticisms I've ever seen in my life. The game is a miracle for this reason alone

Driveclub has a fairly static camera from what I've seen in the gameplay and gifs.
Can't agree with that, feel the Driveclub camera is actually very dynamic in how it moves along the y-axis with elevation changes and along the x-axis when you take corners... static camera in chase view is what I would describe GT's chase cam as.

In fact I prefer a more static camera, especially when talking about it's movement along the x-axis. Too much movement in chase-cam when you turn into corners means it becomes more difficult to judge where exactly the nose of the car is pointing I feel as you are looking at it from a angle rather than from straight behind the car.

This is one area where hands on with PS+ version of Driveclub will help me make my mind up on whether or not to get the full thing...

the roads can be too narrow for good passing lanes
Feel this is actually intentional and part of what will set Driveclub somewhat apart from other arcade racers, the narrowness of the roads will definitely make getting a pass done a more challenging and tense prospect that will require some patience and planning compared to games where you can fit 3-4 cars side by side on the track... but on the flip side, can definitely see it making online rooms with randoms a bit more painful as well.

It seems like the number of posts talking about troll posts, far far outweigh the actual number of troll posts.

If everyone could just chill out with the reactions to a couple idiots, and stop pre-emptively damage controlling review scores, this thread could actually be about Driveclub. The level of defensiveness is insane.

I legit lol'd at this exchange. Almost tops that 'corridor' post. DC threads are the best threads.

Can't find the actual quote from Rushy himself on twitter but there's a tighter camera control if you don't like that chase-cam you mentioned.

DRIVECLUB |OT| 100's of observatory's, SKY AND ROAD = THE SAME, corridor simulator, bumper car simulator, "ouch, my eyes hurt from those sudden light changes".

Oh please. This game has been under the most intense of scrutiny since day one. Now with the game getting ready to come out, you don't think people are more than tired of an entire year of being lambasted?

Can you show me where the invisible walls are?

I think some people misunderstood this post. He says that realistic does not always equal a good game, and then list unrealistic things like invisible walls and fade to restart. That means that he think its a good game, right? :P =)

Yes, indeed. The high number of posters who keep trying to criticize DriveClub and fail spectacularly make these threads some of the best comic relief on GAF.

Is it just me or does the car on the right look more like computer graphics than real life (despite obviously being real)? Damn, after watching so much Driveclub stuff I can't even distinguish reality from videogames anymore.
But srsly if someone had tried to sell this to me as a screenshot of some game or CGI clip or something, I guess I wouldn't have questioned it one bit. How far we've come.

Why has this game been under the most intense scrutiny? It's had a troubled development cycle, including a nearly one year delay. But that's in the past now, and has been discussed in other threads.

I don't see this game being treated any different than most exclusive games. A few trolls show up and do their thing, some people give their tepid impressions, and a whole bunch of people seem excited about the game.

I mean shit, I love criticism. But this is neoGAF, if you say ridiculous shit, everyone's gonna call you on it.

That's part of this thread, and part of the community. People who try to attack those who are having fun over the absurdity of the criticisms in this topic should just go and find a topic where they're not concern trolling and playing toward false objectivity.

If you say ridiculous shit, we get to make fun. That's part of the game.

DC threads have a reputation for concern trolls, shitposting and ridiculous criticisms. I may not have been a member here for very long, but none of the exclusive threads I've seen come anywhere close to DC threads.

I'm pretty sure BruiserBear knows all about the things you just said.

Let me try to translate his shit for you:

There's a difference between having an opinion on a game and shitting on it.
Here, he's just shitting on the game and the fact he has a 100k gamerscore may explain why he seems to have an agenda.

While some of the complaints are bizarre (the music and lack of driving tests as well as the tracks complaints) but I don't believe we should entirely dismiss the comments or put too much focus on the fact that he has a 100k gamer score.

I'm sure a great many people have gamer scores that are close to or over 100k. Doesn't necessarily imply bias.

Not to turn this into a contest, but most Sunset threads are full of exactly those types of posts.

It's not at all exclusive to DC threads and it's frankly bizarre to see this persecution complex when it comes to DC.

It's really not just DC threads. That doesn't make it OK, but feeling like one game is somehow an exception is just a sign of where someone focuses their attention. Someone in threads for any number of other titles could have the same reaction for those respective games, if that was where they let their eyes rest.

LOL
