DRIVECLUB The Drenched Forests of Canada

I think it's clever marketing tbh. They get two bouts of coverage. One where everyone flips out over lower quality media, and shares it via the social networks. And then another more for the hardcore where we get high quality footage and they get more coverage all over again. Usually with an extra video or two as well.

In all seriousness. They generated a ton of conversation over such footage that I doubt a high quality video right now would have much impact. So they can wait a bit longer and release a video later to stimulate conversation again.

Actually, no. I prefer it this way. It's not like games disappear after a week on the market. I can wait until it comes out and watch others stream it.

There's a million different sources of information to see the game in action once it's out. Why present everything about the game before it even releases? Why is there such a desire to focus on showing things early? I can't think of any benefit of taking time away to polish huge trailers over finishing the game. For me, the perfect time to see videos is when I can go out and buy the damn thing the moment I'm impressed.

Not 3 months ahead of time lol. That's just fucking silly. I mean, I'm assuming you're speaking from genuine interest and not this new mock concern that seems to be all the rage these days.

I think they expect people to buy the game after they see it on the PSN or a million different websites that will have features and reviews. A single bullshot trailer won't do anything to make people part with their cash.

.

I was kinda dumbfounded when Corrine Yu said she was working huge hours to get a fucking Uncharted 4 e3 demo done. what a waste of time.

When this game will be out there are lots of good games that could be made using that engine.

One would be Motorstorm for sure.

So I just realised what this game reminded me of, Cyclemania probably the first fmv racing game (megarace also comes to mind). Look at dem graphics, the road looks real dammit.

chills man. I hope they do some dlc for classic cars, which I'd buy just for the audio.

sidenote,I remember buying a cd with ferrari f1 sounds through the ages, terrible brickwall mastering wrecked things though, clipping and distortion eww. It was funny when my SO came home and saw me listening to engine noises on the stereo.

I wonder what this game would have been at its original launch date? It certainly looks pretty now. I'm hoping they get the wheel situation sorted though.

How is that a waste of time? If huge hours weren't spent on it, it would have either not made the presentation, or would have looked unimpressive. Both options wouldn't be satisfactory to the E3 audience or Sony. The game was expected to be there, and it needed to impress. It delivered, and has increased the excitement for the game, and served as a showcase for what the future holds for PS4. I'd call that an essential use of time.

fair enough.

got to say though,he's got a point about the window, this don't look 1080p

Looking at the whole image it could be 1920x540 at the moment, maybe that's why they need to work on it more before they patch it in.
edit: it appears to be 960x540 except for the HUD. No wonder they release low quality webms first.

These were facebook compressed videos before they were webms so any dissecting and criticizing of quality is moronic, like that speedy dude from MS.

Anyone else getting a bit sick of Sony's lack of gameplay footage for all of their games? Game comes out in 3 months and we barely have official footage. Same for the Last of Us PS4.. Comes out in 2.5 weeks, and no gameplay at all.. It happened with MLB as well.. Barely any gameplay until the week it was coming out..Do they expect people to buy their game off of good faith or what? Seriously, these 10 second clips are beyond retarded.

I prefer they didn't show it, rather than show crappy quality clips. I like to avoid media anyways before I play the game. From a sony perspective they should release lots of media so they get more attention and more awareness. But for a gamer I prefer to know as little as possible. It's like when we were younger and purchased games from the screens on the back of the box.

How can you tell that from a webms of a facebook compressed video that isn't running near full resolution? AND who cares? This is an unfinished product!

That is the gist of what I was saying, in response to your friend 'speedy dude from MS' saying the window looked jaggy.

They have already confirmed the new build looks much better. These videos are old.

The weather isn't going to be added until after launch.

Looks absolutely amazing - have high hopes that this could be Sony's answer to PGR and then some.

Glad they waited a year because if the franchise started off with 5/10 scores, it would never have recovered imo.

y'all should be ashamed
Not really... the lack of details in the car paint and cartoon-ish cars and bad trees give it away.

Still, really nice looking racer. :p

The car and the paint itself have unrealistic detail in reaction to the rain.

They're attempt to show the wet paint is literally smearing and lightening portions of the car, which looks silly.

Also, you can hardly see any details on the rear-lights. It's just a red oval with a dark red blob in the middle, no details.

Also lots of Jaggies on the back windshield.

The trees don't even really matter because it's a racing game and they look amazing in motion.

I'm not sure why people are finding trouble with what I'm saying. I'm not saying the game is bad looking, I think the game looks incredible and is a really pretty racing game, I just don't think it looks "so realistic it could pass off as real life." :p

Oh Speedy...oh man...

I guess this is the game that broke him. :p

The hard part in marketing is building interest to peak when the product is actually available. There's no point in showing everything now, only to have nothing left to keep momentum going for another three months until launch.

The huge push needs to come in the week leading up to availability. If they drop the ball then I'll join the critics, but bringing out the big marketing guns now would be incredibly premature.

Him and Joeki11a are losing their minds over this apparently. When you can't find anything noteworthy or credible to properly pick at or downplay, you've got to find something instead, if you catch my drift.

Back to graphics and trees not mattering in a racing game I guess. Unless you're Gran Turismo of course. Then 2D trees and sterile environments become a big issue all over again ;)

I enjoy reading the thread, it's provided quite a few laughs. Some are grasping for straws to wash down the salt.

Ah neogaf , always asking the right questions to the right people.
So driveclub is still native 1080p in the rain ...Perfect .

ALL is good in the world.

If they release a video of a snowstorm i think i'm gonna lose it , but ....

they should do that anyway.

I'm genuinely disappointed that people are falling for that crap.

Same in the Horizon 2 thread, it's sometimes very bloody obvious when someone is trying their absolute damnedest to find something, anything to complain about and try to derail the thread with inane garbage.

You missed out on the Motorstorm games

Motorstorm Collection at 1080p and 60 FPS on PS4? Do want!

People need to remember where this game is coming from... these guys know what they are doing. Motorstorm 2 (above is Apocalypse) was one of the best looking games on PS3.

Wait, are you trying to analyze the resolution of a videogame based on a GIF made from a Youtube Video?

Trees don't matter, but tail lights do. Ok, that is one argument I guess.

That is not from the gif, the video is just low quality.

I think the PlayStation Access video might have been a native 1080p source, but it's so hard to get any 1:1 pixel mapping with bad quality, especially in a racing game where everything around you moves so quick.

I tried though:

Window frames of the car ahead look native 1:1 pixel mapping at 1080p here

Gaps between trees are single pixels at some points, 1:1 native 1080p

But at the same time other stuff looks blurry, but it seems like it's due to just the compression artefacts.

I played this at PAX prime last year and wasn't really blown away, but this looks like an entirely different game. They've made some huge leaps, and I'm really excited to check this out again at launch!
