DRIVECLUB The Drenched Forests of Canada

It's not Rushy, but it's probably official enough.

Wow, Sony Marketing continues to Fail. It's clear from this thread that Evolution has been making great progress with DriveClub and the current videos are making people react very positively towards the game.

Why in the world would Sony Marketing not release the full 1080p, high-quality trailers to build on this positive trend? I'm sure Rushy didn't record only 15 secs of poor quality Facebook video. Rushy probably sent over to marketing a full length trailer at very high quality. If Sony Marketing is going to wait till Gamescom (or beyond) to release it, that is an amazing level of incompetence.

Not a racing fan at all, but man this looks like a whole new game compared to what we've seen in the past. Pretty impressive!

i still don't understand the point of having two first party racing franchises, but at this point that doesn't matter after seeing this video

Both are two different Racing games and aimed at different audiences. Driveclub is your more casual racing game while GT is aimed towards car enthusiasts with high levels of realisme.

Don't forget that Sony had Motorstorm, Wipeout and GT last generation.

Those latter three all seem slightly more at different ends of a spectrum, though. I think the difference is a little more blurry with DC and GT. Sure, you get points for drifting in DC but it's still not arcadey in the way Motorstorm was, nor does it have Wipeout's weapons and mechanics. I can see that it's different to GT, but I think they've lost a bit of variety this gen (so far).

I dont have words to describe the stupid high level of detail I just saw in these clips.
Unreal, and seeing this in the PS4 first year should be considered an achievment, just imagine next year with Uncharted and more.
Congrats to Evolution, hope the game delievers in all fronts and hopefully we can see a future Motorstorm with this engine.

True, true.

If this truly is the game Evolution had wanted to make for a long time - I think they stated as much? - then I'm glad Sony let them make it instead of forcing something like a Motorstorm sequel just to make a more dinstinctly varied line-up. Either way, I think this and GT appeals to different subsets (with some cross-over); I have no interest in tuning and such in my games and the realism of sims appeals very little to me, but this is pretty much my most anticipated game for the foreseeable future.

That said, I would still go hard for a Motorstorm looking like this, so fingers crossed for the future

You know what would be amazing? Being able to unlock the mud plugger or super car or rally car etc from the MotorStorm series' with handling intact. Maybe make it purely something for fun and no lap times would be recorded or anything like that.

You don't believe the game is running in 1080p despite the fact that all the direct feed videos we have gotten are indeed that.

Am I understanding you correctly?

To play Devil's Advocate, what if Evo are using a similar rendering method to KZ:SF's MP?

Initially everyone thought MP was rendered 1920x1080 until GG's technique was revealed.

I'm not suggesting this is the case, but it can't be discounted either.

I think he is saying that he can see jaggies in a 540p gif and as such they will be there in 1080. I've full belief that Evo will do the business and tidy up and problems people might have.

I can understand that if he is making the point that seeing the jaggies at whatever res especially a 540p gif points to there being jaggies. I just thought he was saying you can see its sub 1080p

The pic I posted was cropped 1080p, it's not zoomed in. most of the scene doesn't have much contrast, so it's harder to notice everywhere else.

I don't think anything about this is relevant to the finished product, I'm mostly suggesting the reason why they're not releasing HD video of the weather yet.

What's it matter when GG solution still ends up providing 1:1 pixle mapping and a very clear image?

kZSF still was giving you a 1080P image. About 10% of it was using some ingenious trickery to lighten how it was rendered, but the final image was still 1080P.

As long as its not rendered low and cheaply upscaled, you're gold.

I don't believe the rain footage is currently running in 1080p.

You only found problems on metal surfaces, which can often receive massive specular aliasing [specular highlight shimmering]. Many games have that problem, including Driveclub [that old directfeed 3 lap video also had specular problem on cars]. Also, go look at E3 2013 trailer of Order 1886. That scene when Galahad exits the carriage and contacts the base via radio. The gun on his back is aliased as fuck because of specular problems.

However, that cannot be taken as a proof that DC is not running in 1080p, especially if we dont have access to directfeed weather videos.

Wait, no local co-op? Never even occured to me that there wouldn't be an option to play with a friend locally. In that case this is a no-go for me. I will marvel at the graphics from a safe distance though.

It doesn't bother me in the slightest.

As long as what I see looks awesome, devs can "cheat" as much as they like.

GG did not cheat as they used very clever technique without sacrificing much to achieve 1080p image and also its a launch title so they did not get enough time to work on final hardware, so they did their best on Killzone.

Yeah, just like having the Halo Warthog in Forza 4 was a great idea (even if it was only in Autovista).

A spoiler overlapping a rear window has nothing to do with specular aliasing. I'm saying that the video is indistinguishable from natively rendered 540p. If you can show me otherwise, please do.
