Driveclub - This game is legit

I don't understand the extreme reaction that Driveclub fans have to dissenting opinions.

Totally surprising that you're blaming DC fans on this, instead of the 'list all this shit' troll posts we get - that are suspiciously similar to the ones that pop up in 'Why is the PS4 selling so well?!' threads - where people have to swim against a tide instead of enjoying this game.

And especially when you are one of the first to pile in on a xbone negative post, I find you incredibly irritating.

I liked the game until they introduced the "no touch" rule in races. I was like... lol?
I really wonder who thought that this was good idea....

Also, the game in general gets pretty hard very fast, which is fine for purists I guess, but loosing a race because of one small mistake every time is really frustrating.

This game along with Bloodborne have made my purchase of a PS4 absolutely worth it. Incredible game and launch issues aside, it was the first Next-gen game for me that blew me away with it's graphics. And then blew me away again when they launched the weather update. Gift that keeps on giving this game is!

" no touch " ??
You can touch other cars , you just need to not actively want to mess with others cars. What's a -100 or -200 point penality when you can recover that in the next corner ?

Collision penalities however are necessary , this is driveclub not carmaggeddon.

You mean the 'clean lap' objective that some races have? It's not too bad. Get out ahead and do it for the final lap of the race, it's what I always do.

Yeah, I mean that collision stuff and yes, it is riddiculus to put such a rule in the game with an AI this bad. For every single turn you had a 50/50 chance that somebody would just drive into you and make you loose the perfect rating. I'm sorry, but there is just no way you can put this bullshit in a positive light.

It's a great game at its core, but the inaccurate sounds on many cars and the general lack of content even with the season pass is pretty underwhelming. It's a big shame when you can't drive any amazing cruising/racing classics like any Ferrari 250s or whatever, since the oldest car in the whole game is only from 1987.

It's fantastic looking and plays nicely but it's definitely not a contender for any "best ofs", that would have to go to a certain main competitor.

Definitely worth whatever price you can find it for, but it's not very lasting.

Biggest problem I had with the game was the drifting it was so hard to do and meant that I crashed constantly. :/

The drifting tortures me. I use it when I'm flinging the hot hatches around (even though it sometimes eats my speed) because it feels right and manageable, the hyper cars though ... ugh. I'm getting through the events slowly - I have a thing about wanting to three-star before I move on, because if I can't three star the game isn't going to get any easier for me.

For me, DC is a long investment game that I'll be playing for a long time, even though I make slow progress.

i'd definately say it was the best of this gen (not much legit competition imo). but it's hardly the best racer ever.

Driveclub's value is just absolutely insane. The season pass has basically added several games to the base game itself. It had a rough start but it is incredibly hard to find much room for error now. Probably one of the best bangs for your buck this gen so far.

Driving game fans holding out for the PS+ are making a bad move imo.

its not a bad game but another game called project cars does everything that driveclub does, but only 1000x better and with more depth. at this point there is NO reason to buy driveclub

They are not comparable games. There should be room for both if you like racing games.

Different games entirely and Project CARS is buggy. Both brilliant games but different.

Except if you want a challenge. The AI drivers in PCars tend to be pushovers; say what you will about them in DC, but at least they put up a fight. Tuning is nice, but if I want a night of fast-paced neck-to-neck racing, I put in Driveclub.

The biggest difference to me after a Saturday of CARS was the sense of speed, I found that very lacking in CARS.

But for the true racing weekend and/or simulation purists I completely understand why CARS would be a better option. There's no reason to just pick one though.

Neeeevermind.

I don't think the trophy works that way? I think there is some event or something that makes it easy. I got this one within the 2 days of playing the game.

That was a tough one, I chose that Canada racetrack (and hot hatches because they're more forgiving with hits) with the huge berm at one end (or whatever they call it) and shoved AI on the easiest. It taught me that sometimes you have for a few more corners to overtake though, rather than just ragging through like Burnout :)

That game has zero appeal for me though, no matter how many arbitrary powers it does things better than DC, it's not a game that's on the market for people like me. DC is though. Funny that.

Have to disagree, I traded in project cars after 2 days. Didn't get a sense of speed and the handling on controllers was awful, yes I found plenty of tutorials on how to set up the DS4 and it was still awful. I spent a couple of hours trying to get it right and still traded it in after 2 days. I want to race I don't want to have to set up a controller on a console to start with. I did all of the Karting seasons, got into a ford focus and it was raining, the car just skidded violently from side to side while the AI drove along the racing line as though nothing was happening, completely unaffected by weather. At that point that game was done for me.

Also the mulitplayer was just plain weird i.e. prototype car races/time trials had McLaren cars vs open wheel F1 types.

The presentation of the game also felt cheap in my opinion.

I went back to DC very quickly.

platinum is actually really easy in this game. i got that trophy within my 1st hour with the game.

Well, you're the Lord of Pwn, so these things come easy to you, no-scoping your way into first place.

remember to check psn for free cars you can download

Best do it from in the game though, the web store always looks like it crashes when you try to add DLC to an installed game. They do install usually, but the 'show download queue' icon never appears for me and I have to grab them in the game sometimes. Had the same problem with the Trials Fusion DLC.

So good reading all the positive views on here that mirror my own. Only regret is not grabbing this game sooner. Realsim wise they absolutely nailed one thing, it is ALWAYS pissing down in Scotland

I still really want to try this out, but I refuse to pay for the game they told me I could play at launch, and have STILL failed to deliver that. Cut off my own nose yes, but I'll not give up my cash because they failed their customers, no way.

So in the mean time I have to just read threads like this where everyone (mostly) says the game is awesome, and quietly tell myself:

"Well, someone said Colonial Marines was legit too"

Wish they would hurry the fuck up so I can get down from my pedestal and play it.

Except being a fun arcade-y racing game with beautiful vistas, incredible graphics and an amazing sense of speed.

In other words, it's got nothing to do with Driveclub.

I love Scottish Summer in the Elements pack for that reason :)

See if you can get somebody to shareplay the game, should be fine at high quality to get a feel for the game. Mind you, I would say wait until the PS+ version since you've already been patient. I think sometimes shareplay can have the 'box full of Amiga disks' effect where you don't enjoy a game as much, simply because you've made zero to minimal investment, because DC does require that you give it some time to 'bed in', as it were.

I loved the first need for speed, yes the first one, I am old, lol, driving through mountain roads, so when I saw Driveclub I knew it had potential.

I will get it sometime with all the DLC.

Great showcase for the PS4 and the gameplay just seems right to me. A good title to play for a good 1 hour when each time you sit to play.

Last week I'd thought I'd check how far I am off the platinum trophy, turned out I was very close.

Till I saw I need 1.000.000 Drift points, I'm on 350.000ish....

DAMN!

The Canada tracks are glorious for 'in the mountains' feel, the scale if fantastic. I've never been, but I'm pretty sure Bish drives there and said they nailed the look, especially the sunrise/set; knowing how well they nailed Scotland, I can well believe it.

Plus no one seems to have a problem with tiny cars list in pCars "because its not that kind of racer", so that's a bonus.

This just screams out "I'm not good at the game and refuse to practice to get better, make it easier for me pleeeeeease". Driving lines would absolutely ruin this game. It doesn't need them whatsoever.

People need to stop being afraid of difficulty and instead should be looking at getting better at the game.

It's almost like this is an entirely new series by evolution and has required them to build 50 new cars from scratch as well as additonal cars for DLC.

It is shocking the lack of consideration that goes on when developers start a new series.

Wow, I've never seen this being said in a negative way before :S Learning the cars and tracks in racers is why I love them so much and to me is the largely the point of them. Makes coming first so much more satisfying.

No disrespect, but this kind of attitude is why games are getting more and more dumbed-down these days - people don't want to learn or be challenged, they just want to win. The fact DC forces you to get better is one of it's main strengths imo. There have been certain events in DC that I've been certain that I would never be able to complete, but I stuck with them and in the end I finished them. The sense of accomplishment I get from events like this is borderline euphoric, lol. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I don't see what's wrong with giving us the option to have a driving line. Make it off by default if you want, for the identity of the game, but often times a driving line is definitely needed. Playing the Norway tracks at night and heavy precipitation is downright unplayable, and anyone who says the can race in those conditions and get a good time should show proof. Also, I was hinting that the tracks themselves are not very great. I am perfectly happy with memorizing tracks, I have tried to do so, and playd the Nordschleife hundreds of times now, because it is a beautiful track. My two cents.

Playing this as we speak and I've just discovered you can turn off the hub which would be really awesome except for the fact I need the map in the bottom corner to stop me heading into blind corners at light speed

I'd tottaly give it a chance for $20
Sadly, over here it's still $70 in stores and even with the Ps+ disscount it's still $50 on PSN.

I've turned the HUD off in the first week and never looked back.

With a map I'm constantly checking it and feel I'm not learning the tracks.
But ofcourse to each his own. :)

Yeah I'm still pretty new so a lot of the tracks aren't in my head as yet. HUD off though looks so much better

The latest update has the Hud on/off mapped to a button now, doesn't it? It's just another excuse for me to crash though, fiddling around trying to get my GPS on and veering (slightly, no rough-riding up the mountains) off the road.
