Driveclub - This game is legit

- What is with people and tuning now a days, this shit wasn't in the PS2 days why do you want it now?

- You really gonna complain about a season pass now? Should've complained in 2013 when that shit began.

- That is what the Season Pass is for (plus there where like 8 add-ons on launch day)

- Low number of what? are you counting reverse and circuit? what?
events I understand because of launch issues.

-Barebones in what?

Yes some of his complaints doesn't make sense. He disliked the soundtrack but Music is off by default, yet he said having none at all would be better so he turned it on. Such irony...

Haha I was a little confused. I thought I'd hardly noticed the music. This explains why

I bought it recently thinking it would be easy for casual pick up and play bursts but ended up not liking it. More sim than I wanted and its tough as hell. Trading it in.

"you can't judge it because it was turned off by default!" wat, again wtf does this mean? i turned it on because i obviously wanted to hear if it was any good, after discovering that i didn't like i turned it off

Is this kind of concept obscure or what?

or should i've been aware of the quality of the soundtrack keeping it off?

It's definitely a game you need to learn, but the satisfaction when you finally can drive that Hyper Car to the finish without any crashes is amazing.

Driveclub is my go-to zen game. I get around to playing it quite rarely, but whenever I do, it is a blissful, white knuckle experience.

I know that does not make sense.

This game is the 8th generation yardstick.

I think the devs idea was that you enjoy the sounds of the cars. The soundtrack (which I've not heard) is just kinda a bonus for those that want it.

I dont think "sim" means what you think it means.

It almost seems like you didnt like it because the car doenst drive itself.

This so called piece of crap named DRIVECLUB unknowingly pivoted from being "another" 12 player online racer to become what it is today:
- Spending 3 hours to shave 1 tenth of a second from your laptime, all to have it trashed by another foe who spent his own 3 hours to beat you by 2 hundredths of a second.

"that" foe did it all without grinding for spec upgrades, wall riding or lawn mowing fields. You want to beat him? there's only one way: - Sore thumbs and sweat. Ditching your social life and reading the book Apex if all else fails.

Without knowing it, Evo studios re-created the trackmania phenomena on a proper racing game. Its trackmania for gas guzzling, fumes intoxicated, ears popping petrol heads.

It requires from you the same skill, sweat and dedication seen on competitive games such as street fighter, trackmania etc. If its not your cup of tea, you can still go racing with others online. But, if competitive blood does runs through your veins, you are at home with Driveclub.

The moment you see high level world record runs on Driveclub such as these:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=207JJwnfrxc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCgADuJizSs
...and you realize they are no longer the current world records, you will scratch your head trying to figure how on earth was there still time on the table to be taken from these laps and will finally understand what type of game this is.

i wanted the soundtrack on but i thought it was shit, so i turned it off and i gave my opinion

I'm just trying to understand what was so "Such irony" in my post

I got DC last week, really liking it even though I'm downright awful at it. It's the kind of racer I hadn't played since Burnout, that makes you forget to exhale until the finish line.

Drift events can suck it though.

What also could use some work is the AI that gives negative shits. It's almost like playing online, if you're in their racing line they will ram you like you weren't there.

same here, love it but I fucking suck at it.

I can appreciate why people like it, it's very pretty and stuff, but I found it thoroughly joyless and uninvolving. The handling lacked both the knockabout thrills of an arcade racer and the poise and finesse of a sim. It was this ineffectual middle ground that just wasn't fun or satisfying.

Racing a supercar in the rain like that on open roads seems down right terrifying. So everyone is good with 30fps racers now with limited car selection and no tuning. That's what's hot in the streets now? For all its faults Forza 5 is still the best current Gen racer to me. Driveclub has its spot and I'm not saying its not a good game. But racing game of the generation? Maybe if you only have a PS4.

Absolutely. DC is great. Easily the best racer I've played in a long, long time. Forza 5 was a huge letdown and imo is the lowest point of the entire series.

And I'm not quite sure why people always list the fact that DC has no tuning as a negative. DC isn't a sim, and even if it was, tuning isn't a mandatory requirement for every racer and doesn't always mean a game is better for having it. There are plenty of great racers that don't have any type of tuning. The PGR series, for example.

I got it on the cheap after being deflated by the reviews but intrigued by the Gaf response. It's a good game. Really good. Gorgeous to look at, satisfying to control, straddles a good line between sim and arcade, and has a terrific sense of speed. It is lacking somewhat in the way of personality and standing out from the crowd, but it is indeed a legit racer. I should probably return to it soon since it keeps getting free content added.

This is strange to read for me because yesterday as I was playing the new tour packs I was thinking the exact opposite thing. Racing the La Ferrari I could throw that thing around corners be a lot more lax with it, it was great fun and exactly what I would expect from an arcade game. Then when I tried the Ariel Atom I found that I had to play just like I would if I was playing a sim - I had to make fine adjustments to the left stick (and for controller players, I've found that pushing the left stick up against the rim of the plastic and keeping it there helps a lot with this) and brake/gas pedals to stop it from spinning out. I had to learn the car and the track before I could get anywhere close to completing the event, just like you would in a sim.

*Shrugs*

I meant to pick it up then but missed out. Been waiting for another hard sale ever since

or the ps plus one

The sense of speed, graphics and dynamic lighting/weather make it stand out from the crowd imo.

Haha, DC fans are so precious.

So he doesn't like it, it's not like he punches kids.

My comment have absolutely nothing to do in being fan of anything.

DC handling is pretty permissive. Everything you have to learn to deal with the sim side of DC is when to accelerate, and where to use the brakes. Trying to take turns correctly is something you do in every single racing game outside pure arcade racers.

So yes, complaining about DC being too much of a sim is just weird, even if he is free to not like the game.

It's such a huge shame about the online shit that happened at launch. I really loved Driveclub but it's never going to get the recognition it deserves because of it. :/

I disagree completely with this. ;P

But more importantly, I would edit this a bit as thread whining is banable. So you might not want this seen be a mod. Just a thought.
Although, backseat modding is as well, so I'm now in the same boat! :-O

But yes, I do agree with you on how tired I am also of people coming in and shitting up threads about games they have no interest in, since it's not on their system of choice and therefor game X is superior.
You won't see me go into Forza thread and spew BS on how DC is the better game, so I'd like to not see that fanboy crap in thread about games that I enjoy. ;)

Shame that that 71 metacritic average is made up of reviews (bar a handful) that rated the game at launch or just before launch, when it was a bit of a mess. But what can you do.

No doubt the game is much, much better than it was months ago. The lesson here is for the developers.

No, the mess was all post-launch.

The reviews didn't take the post launch mess into account lol, imagine if they did lol.

Servers worked fine during review process...

Don't complain about review scores.

only racer so far that i've liked.

i hate open world racers which sadly are becoming the "norm" which nagates most of them, and the ones that are track based are too "ofiicial" for me (real world race tracks etc). driveclub combined what i liked about NFS rivals when you found a long stretch of open road, with the immersion of a sim and the handling of a fun PGR-esque racer. love it.

What you have with Driveclub is a hidden gem. It hid itself behind delays, the launch mess, the lack of PS+ version, the lack of weather on launch etc. So whilst it's all it's own doing, it doesn't alter the fact it's an absolutely cracking game right now. I got it for £15 brand new, one of the biggest gaming bargains I've ever had

To be fair, though, the game is much better now than it was at the time of the reviews. The weather patch, free cars and tracks, and other little little tweaks and additions did wonders for the game.

Every time I see praise for this game it baffles me. Yes it looks gorgeous.. but outside of that it's nothing special. It's not a good arcade racer and isn't a Sim. Handling is subpar. . Ai is fucking atrocious.

There's ton of other arcade racers I'd much rather play even if they look 100 times worse.

This is the biggest issue for me, it tries to please both camps and ends up pleasing neither IMO.

I don't even really get the "sense of speed" thing people are going on about, it doesn't feel especially fast to me. Maybe it's because everyone is in love with the cockpit view, I dunno, but it doesn't feel as fast as NFS Rivals for example.

Incredible how much my mileage differs (pun intended) to you guys with this game. As I say to me it is the perfect balance between sim and arcade. Like Burnout meets Gran Turismo. And it feels ridiculously fast to me in certain stages.

Same for me, it's pretty much the perfect middle between both racing types. Not too crazy arcade'ish and not too much of a Simulation, just right in between for having a forgiving racer that still challenges you with taking corners right etc.

It feels as F-Zero GX with cars to me, the hyper cars for sure.
And Rivals not by far...

Part of the reason I think people think it's fast is the tracks tend to be pretty narrow. Which is part of the problem Ai turns into bumper cars.
