Its kind of a hobby/collector thing. I was born in '87. I remember when Mindiscs were literally like the highest tech coolest thing possible to imagine. When I was probably about 9 or 10 I'd spend hours pouring over AOL reading everything I possibly could about Minidiscs. I got one around 2001ish, the NetMD format player. So coupled with WinMX my entire early teenage music discovery phase REVOLVED around what Minidiscs I had in my pocket. I cannot express how much the MD format means to me, sentimentally. My player has been broken for about 6 years though. And I've just never really got it together enough to spend frivolous money on one. (not with all the beer I drink ) One of the things I'm *most* excited about is to listen to all my teenage mixes. I still have the discs, of course.
Its a think of pure, spellbinding wonder. <-- Thats the one I settled on. For 60 bucks.
I've actually been taking apart the discs and painting the plastic cases. My goal is to have hundreds/thousands of hand painted MiniDisc mixes by the end of my life. I'm gonna paint an entire disc purple tomorrow and then let my best friend's 15 month old daughter do a handprint in gold on the front of it.
