DS software from Nintendo booth in .nds format

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can do that on any DS. Just hold down the B button as you boot and it'll load from the GBA slot, even if you had a DS cartridge inserted as well.

Woops. It DOES work if you set your DS to autoboot first. Then, it'll autoboot a GBA game if ONLY a GBA game is in. A DS game if all you have loaded is a DS game, or if you have a DS and GBA game. However, if you have 2 games loaded, then holding B will autoboot from the GBA.

Fantastic, and thanks for the heads up!

Just tried it now with FE, and no dice.
I just tested it with Twisted! in the GBA slot and Electroplankton in the DS slot, works fine for me. Make sure you're holding down B before you hit power. Of course, it might have to do with my DS being set to bypass the menu (Auto Mode) and go straight into the game. Another trick for Auto Mode is to hold down Start as you boot to bring up the system menu.

Indeed. Check 3 posts up. I ran a 2nd test when I realized I disabled autoboot a long time ago.

huh, the first time I did it it loaded pictochat..... now it does nothing when there is both types of carts installed. just goes to the menu although holding the button down does make the warning disappear after a second....

EDIT: somebodys already done better than me. Cheers!

Oops, I spent too long tinkering with my DS, you managed to respond first. Good catch.

Notice the word MODIFY?

notice that that only applies to homebrew code, the demos are Nintendo digitally signed so any DS can accept them without any modification, just like ALL the people that downloaded them at e3 didn't have to change anything.

hmmm, I'm wondering if I should buy a wireless card for this or not.

Maybe if I find something cheap...

Edit: USB cards don't work, skip this.

Hotness. I'm def. buying a wireless router just for this :)

Suggestions of cheap, compatible products would be nice.

Le Sigh. You don't want a router. You just need the card (Am I Rite?)

If you have an appropriate card (from the list on that site), then you can update its driver to turn it into a DS DEMO BROADCASTING MACHINE.

Bah, I can never get the dos type programs to ever work on XP.
just make a batch file in notepad.

wmb -data trauma_center_under_the_knife_demo_jap.nds

That's pretty much all i put in my file and it runs fine. ^_^

i have one of these http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16833327003

works great. although the antenna is kinda weird on it...i dont mind. just note that once you load the hacked driver, your card will only function for this DS download play. you can always swap drivers back and forth (why?) or just have 2 network cards installed.

Damn, why doesn't Nintendo themselves get into this? How cool would it be to browse up nintendo.com and get a new demo on your DS? Flag kiosks, this is the future.

i totally agree that would kick arse. my guess is that nintendo doesnt want to mess with either releasing software (for the actual ds unit) or a firmware upgrade. anyway i still have my fingers crossed that some more demos from ds kiosks down the line will come out. animal crossing and mario kart pppppppleeeeeeeeease! :)

Those weren't wireless demos, and are likely too large to fit in system memory anyway. We can hope they do kiosk demos for them in Japan, though.

No OSX/Linux drivers yet :(

I'm gonna order a card after the weekend. If I've already got a Belkin Router will it be able to co-exist with the WAN card running on DS drivers?

if coexist you mean it wont mess up your wireless network for other computers..then sure. the wan card with the drivers however will not function like a normal wan card so if you dont have another nic you wont be able to access the internet/standard network stuff while the drivers are installed.

I only have three forms to transmit wireless data...

1. a linksys router
2. a linksys access point
2. a dell laptop broadcom Mini-PCI card

I guess I'm screwed according to that compatibility list. :(

I have not personay tried the WIFIME ver. but I have a passme and a gba flash card and I can say it rocks. The firmware hack also owns as it's annoying as all hell that lame health warning screen, thx to the new firmware it NEVER shows up.

1.) load the drivers
2.) create a folder in c:\ named "nds"
3.) extract the program into that folder and put your .nds files in the data folder
4.) goto start > run
5.) type cmd
6.) type cd c:\nds
7.) type wmb.exe -data blahblah.nds

boom

that really simplifies it, just one question, you load the drivers by double clicking once you download them, right?

What is your high score on the Meteos demo? I'm at 103400 but still not sure about the scoring system (e.g. which combos are worth more than which). Awesome game, though. Although it's easy to clear a lot of blocks, when it starts to move faster, or when you play against someone good, you really have no time to relax -- exactly how a puzzle game should be.

I've bought new WiFi card yesterday specially for running those NDS demos. Hope we will see more of them coming out soon and not only Japanese demos.

Some impressions:
Installation of PCMCIA card was fast and painless, I made some .bat files for transmitting all od the demos and was plaining Meteos demo in about 10 minutes after opening WiFi card's box. At first I thought I'm screwed because my EZFA 256 Mbit Flash cartridge isn't flashable in DS (lack of necessary slot to connect USB cable and I've already sold my GBA & GBA SP). I've inserted F-Zero GBA cart in my NDS, hoping it will work. Actually, it's possible to download and play those demos even without any GBA cartrudge inserted. One more thing I noticed - you need to remove/insert PCMICIA card after transmitting each demo or else you get some device_failed_to_send_blablabla error.

About the demos:
Meteos demo was simply awesome and fast, it reminded me of Tetris Attack. Anyway, it was on my preorder list even before trying out the demo.
Polarium: completed the tutorial, I like the idea and all, but I can't seem myself paying more than $20 for it...
Table Tennis tech demo - overall simplistic, even for demonstration of DS touch screen.
Trauma Center: Under the Knife: playable even without Japanese knowledge (nurse and doctor giving you on-screen hints). Completed both operations, definitely will play it again to improve my score. US version is already on my preorder list.
Submarine tech demo: Nintendo, please release commercial demo using the engine and psychics of the demo, throw in some story and underwater torpedo battles!
Goemon: demo was too short to decide about purchasing the retail version, couldn't manage to beat the big yellow 'bot in two tries.
Training for adults: Work your brain: tried matchematics quiz, it's a pity we won't be seeing US version of this "game" :( It would be instant purchase if they would keep the JPN pricing.
Electroplankton: I'm not a big fan of music mixer software, yet this demo shows the audio capabilities of NDS.
