Dualsense is a Scam

Another Dualsense with stick drift after a year of use. I have never seen anything like this and I've been playing games for almost 4 decades. This is my fourth controller and now I will have to buy a new one because it's very uncomfortable to play with this issue.

I want to ask you, how is the experience with the Xbox controller? Is it worth it?

I am thinking of getting one for pc and not buying Sony controllers ever again

My Dualsense which i used for PC stopped working properly, the down dpad was not functioning anymore, i'm really upset it worked for such short time.
I just wish MS would already come out with this "Sebile" controller already.

I've never had controllers break like DualSense. Honestly can't even remember having any other controller break my entire long life, but have had to throw out 3 DualSense.

It's also frustrating because I have perfectly fine DS4s still sitting around I can't use because Sony pointlessly blocks their use for any PS5 title.

I'm on my 2nd controller. First one got drift and not one but two faulty buttons. The triggers are specially pronto ot breaking, or so I've read online.

My experience with the Switch's joycons wasn't any better. If you are on PC, people say the 8bitdo Ultimate controller is great.

Old gamepads were just so much better and durable. My GameCube gamepad from 2002 still works like the day it came out of the box.

I'm tired of stick drift in general -- it's absolutely a disgrace how so many major gaming companies are putting out worthless hardware in this way, when I used to keep classic game controllers for an eternity without any issue like this.

My Quest controllers (even Quest 3) and my Switch controllers all end up doing it sooner or later too. It's everywhere.

What games are you mostly playing?

I never had stick drift with a single controller since the N64. I had 4 Dualsenses with zero issues.
I really wonder why some people have stick drift a lot and some never experince this.

I've had issues with Xbox controllers, too. Especially the L and R bumpers breaking after just half a year or so. The analog sticks have also limped out on me a few times. This goes for their standard controllers as well as the Elite 2 controllers.

Lately I've been using the Switch 2 Pro Controller, and it's been incredible. It's less than a year old, so I don't know how well it'll survive in the long run. But I've definitely stacked a few hundred hours into it easily, and it shows no signs of wearing out. I absolutely love the analog stick and buttons on that controller, too. (I wish the d-pad was a bit better, but I think that of all modern controllers.)

I use a 8bitdo controller and I love it. Never had any issues with it. I use it as my GFN controller. Wouldn't even consider a Sony controller with its drift issues.

I've never once gotten stick drift with a PlayStation controller and it's been my primary console since the PS1.

I had it with several Joycons, but that's all. Not sure what you are doing to your controllers.

My left sticks since the PS3 era have gotten worn down from FPS sprinting. I upgraded to the edge so that I could just replace the thumb sticks. I'm happy with that decision. My biggest complaint is the terrible battery life.

Complete agreement. PA5 is my 3rd console and I have gone through 4 controllers. I also wish they had that rubberized grip like the new Xbox controllers as I find the PS controller feels slippery /greasy really quickly during a play session.

my xbox controllers usually last long but one time the controller fell and the joystick got messed up then it turns out microsoft has 2 year warranty on their controllers and got mine fixed for free

PC has better options than both.

I haven't had a stick drift issue with PS since my PS3 phat from 2007...

When I go to friends houses with battered controllers, I see them 'dropped by accident' about 10-times per visit.

The sheer force being applied when playing competitive games is wild. I don't know if this is a production issue, or the way people use their controllers.

I bought the ps5 pro when it came out. I used that controller for like 50-60 hours max and its already drifting. I bought a Black dualsense before that and im using it daily on PC and its still good thankfully. Im just waiting for the steam controller at this point and im never gonna bother with normal sticks ever again

Dont buy official xbox or ps controllers is my advice. There are TMR stick gamepads that are better quality with more features than those

Because people like you are buying 5 Dualsenses from Sony instead of repairing them, they don't need to change shit on their end. Sony is a company, companies like to make money, Sony is making money, because y'all are too lazy to repair your Dualsenses or are too tight to pay someone 50 bucks to repair them for you, end of story.

This. Probably L3 button abuse with FPS/some TPS games may cause earlier stick drift. Also dirty/oily hands and poor maintenance. My original DS4 that came with the PS4 Pro has no stick drift, my Dual Sense that came with PS5 Pro at launch is still perfect.

If a game has L3 to run and I can change it in the settings, I'll change that shit. Recently happened with Cronos in my case, and it's a lot better like that. L3 button to run is just not for me.

My Xbox One gamepad from 2015 is still working PERFECTLY. There's zero analog drift, even though I've used this gamepad extensively over the years and must have played hundreds of games with it. I've heard that the latest Xbox series gamepads aren't as reliable, though. So just because my Xbox gamepad was built perfectly doesn't mean that the recent models will last 10 years as well.

I'm limping along with my 3rd dualsense on PC until I can get the new Steam Controller. I really like Sony's overall controller design, the shit just breaks/breaks down too easily.

Nintendo Pro controllers are bound to get drift when using the analog buttons (L3/R3) and moving the analog at the same time, like running when you are forced to keep the analog down.

Xbox controllers have been great for me. Maybe I've just been lucky but I've had 2 Xbox One controllers and 1 Series X controller. Hell, my 360 controller still works great. No drift on any of them (360 sticks are a little wobbly tho lol). My launch Xbox One controller lasted years until I dropped it on my hardwood floor right on the sticks and it fucked up the right analog stick. My other Xbox One controller still works great and my launch Xbox Series controller is still great to this day. Worth noting too that I've played a fuck ton of CoD where the analog stick buttons are used quite a bit.

Already on my 4th Dualsense. This started to drift on the left stick a bit to the right. Had it opened up, cleaned, and lubricated the joystick piece. It is working as brand new, now who knows for how long. The other 3 are doing "fine", none of them has any tear or whatever. It is just that controllers quality builds are bad in general. Not even the Xbox controller are that good, aside from the Elite series. Nintendo Pro controller is actually good, I can't complain about it.

Yeah, fuck that potentiometer module.

Consider getting an Edge, you can replace bad sticks for $20. Still inferior to the newer tech but better than a completely useless drifting regular dualsense. But then you gonna have to deal with the pathetic battery life of edge...

stick-module-angle

Both Dualsense and joycons are trash, had to replace them so many times. The most recent one I had has last me almost 2 years so far... but if that one breaks, I'm going 3rd party. Already went with a 3rd party controller for switch as well.

I've experienced the opposite. My two Dualsense controllers have no problems. I have 4 series controllers, 3 of which have varying issues such as drift and sticky triggers/buttons. Not caused by cheeto dust either, my hands are always clean and the controllers are stored when not used. I feel your pain though. It's incredibly frustrating.

That's why i bought the Edge after my 3rd Dualsense came up with Stickdrift. Even stocked up on stick modules so i don't have to worry about that shit anymore.

I don't think that the type of games I play should matter. The controller should be able handle all sorts of games without breaking after a year.

Yes, it should, but clearly that's not happening. So it's good to know what kinds of games you play the most with the controller.

I had 2 Xbox one controllers develop stick drift, and a 360 controller shatter into a million pieces (although I did throw it on the ground in anger 😂).

Had much better luck with the XSX controller I got - still going strong with no issues.

I think it's just your luck to be honest.

Not necessarily the type of game, true, but it depends on HOW a game is played.
But of course it depends on mechanical stress and how the device is handled. I bet the controller of a Tropico player has to deal with stick drift less often on average than that of a CoD player.
I agree with you that a controller should be able to withstand a lot, which it does in my experience, but the reality is that there are people who literally abuse their controllers and then wonder why problems arise.
I don't want to blame you doing this per se, so I'm asking you a serious question about what your use case looks like in detail.

As emivita emivita says, heavy use of L3/R3 under pressure can cause the sticks to show signs of wear sooner rather than later.

I highly recommend the Gamesir G7 pro for PC.

It's an Xbox style layout and is now my most comfortable controller ever.

Mine presented problems like a month before I bought them. I have 2 as well, a black and a silver one. The silver one fortunatelly is showing less symptons of a faulty stick, but it still present although relativelly a minor inconvenience.
Honestly I prefer 10 times Dualshock 4, with backbuttons, but even Dualshock itself didn't last that long.

All my DS4s had drift issues at some point. Just go with Xbox or some 3rd party controller with hall effect sticks.

I used for many years an X360 controller, both on the 360 and my PC. Still works perfectly, tough it's a bit old.
Got a Series S/X, but it got stick drift after a couple of years, with light usage. Since it was still under warranty, I sent to to MS. They fixed it and sent it back. Got stick drift again after one year.
It was no longer under warranty. So I got an 8Bit Do and it's working very well so far.

When I bought my PS5 I bought a second controller just to delay the drift as much as I could. The second controller was the first with drift, just 6 months after I bought it. And then the other one after an year. I fixed the analogics from the two controllers and now the fourth one is making it impossible to play with it.

I'm still using my first DualSense I bought when the PS5 released, unlike you BRUTES I have the gentle hands of a healer and it's still in great shape, tiny near imperceptible stick-drift I only ever notice in Animal Crossing:NH for some reason. For all other use, no problem.

Great controller, the haptics are awesome and more games should support it.

I'd honestly go with a GameSir G7 Pro or 8BitDo Ultimate 2 controllers instead. Both have TMR sticks on models for the same price or lower than as an Xbox or Playstation pad, so they shouldn't develop drift.

Xbox controllers I usually end up having issues with one of the bumpers, so I gave up on them after my Elite 2 had the left one fail.

8BitDo Ultimate 2 [link] is $60, and GameSir G7 Pro [link] is $80 (I have one of these). Both come with charging cradles, wireless latency is better, dual-stage triggers, and rear paddle buttons. GameSir has their new 8k polling rate model coming out in March for the same price, since it drops Xbox support saving money on certification (works on PC, Switch, Android/iOS).

Interesting. I haven't had any issues with my 3 Series controllers after years of use. My Xbox One controllers always had squeaky triggers or faulty bumpers, no drift though.

I have an 8bit do and it's ok. Feels less solid than my Xbox controllers but it works well with the Steam Deck.

Once the new Steam controller drops I'm never looking back.
