Dune Stuns the Venice Film Festival: “Once in a generation film” - Compared to LOTR

The stillsuits alone are enough to tell me just how many liberties they're taking with the source material.

I won't talk too much shit without watching it, but it's a red flag if you take anything from the David Lynch abortion.

Guess I have to watch it. Twitter praises don't have the intended effect of me, but I was going to watch it anyways because of Villeneuve.

I don't know why people feel like they can't say this is just half of a book. Is WB trying to conceal this?

Ghyahhhh. I’ve been looking forward to this. The high praise has a way of making me anxious. Idk why.
Your subconscious knows that Hollywood is comprised of the most broken, dysfunctional people Western society has to offer. It's the uncanny valley, the hind brain knows that they aren't really people.

Ok I was really hopeful and these reviews have me so excited now. PLEASE be good. So many movies have been bad this year I need dune to be good.

Is there......a Part One in there somewhere?

Anyway, not really worth debating, I know it is just half a book and after the first week everyone else will and can decide to see half a story with no guarantee of a conclusion for themselves.

They’ve been clear it’s only the first half since before filming even begun. You’re the only one trying to craft some nefarious conspiracy.

It‘s the EXACT SAME THING they did with It in 2017.

I feel like they crafted IT to be a stand alone story of just the childrens experience so not being upfront that it is just part of the book isn't as egregious. I'm not sure DUNE can be carved up that way and I'm pretty sure it's just gonna end with a pretty big "...and then?" response from the audience. But whatevs. You can watch it from home for $15 so it's not like it's a big deal.

There’s a natural breaking point in the book. That’s where the movie is split.

I will believe it when I see it.
So much bs and overshilling that I'll watch it and make up my own mind. Not having access to Twitter really does help with avoiding this kind of propogandic and vapid hype.

Not saying it's not good, but I'm quite tired of wannabe tastemakers and gatekeepers trying to wedge an opinion into us before we've seen more than a 3 minute trailer.

They showed the first 10 minutes +30 minutes of BTS footage in IMAX last month. That alone was better than any movie in the last few years.

Just remember the 5 hour long director's cut of the SciFi miniseries cut a shit-ton of the book. Frankly I don't think this can be properly filmed without a GoT style runtime and budget, and at that point you might as well go whole hog with the entire franchise.

I dunno, isn't there a copy/paste Marvel movie out at the same time? I think I'd rather watch that.

It's reassuring to see so many in the media enjoyed it, but that was never going to be a deciding factor for me.
The minute I read that Denis Villeneuve would be directing it I was already on board.

Being familiar with his filmography already instilled confidence in me that this adaption was going to be phenomenal.
Blade Runner 2049 in IMAX was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me, especially with that soundtrack.
Something that could never be recaptured watching it at home even on a 4k screen.

I expect to be enthralled by Villeneuve's Dune in that same special way.

There are several books…

Anyway this is the first I’m hearing it’s only half the book and I’m okay with that as long as they don’t cut stuff to just replace it with something pointless and new.

I thought I read the next movie was all about Chani, do they mean after Dune part 2?

I've skimmed just a couple review because I already know I need to see this movie duh, but I was surprised to learn it's two planned movies to cover the first book, somehow I didn't know that. Cool to give proper time for events to play out, though who know when we'll see part 2.

I am going to pretend this is some weird sarcasm, about watching that dumb kung-fu China-dicksucking movie instead of Dune, which if this is a real opinion I don't even want to go there.

Oh no look at all the "bitterness" in this topic! Oh wait, it's just regular people not falling for twitter PR hype.

2049 was brilliant and Villeneuve has yet to make a bad movie so I'm going to see this. Don't need blue checkmarks telling me what to look forward to.

Being only half of the book is a real let down though. Not happy about that and I feel like they are kinda obfuscating that.

I am optimistic because Denis made the best and most interesting genre film in 20 years (Blade Runner) but it is amusing how people love to use these early reactions from Twitter checkmarks for validation of something's quality only when it suits them to do so.

It’s good hearing the impressions and I can’t wait to hear more in the next few weeks. Easily the most excited I’ve been for a film since the Lord of the Rings. The wait to see it is going to be punishing, but gives me a chance to read the book again for fun!

Cautiously optimistic. Never seen Dune, but I have a basic understanding of it from Quinns Ideas youtube channel (great channel worth checking out) and the work Denis Villeneuve does is incredibly striking......so put me down as interested.

Glad to hear it’s being received well. Impressions from film festivals can be a little over enthusiastic so I’ll temper my expectations for now. But it’s promising.
