Dune Stuns the Venice Film Festival: “Once in a generation film” - Compared to LOTR

Never go to the cinema in America. They clap like seals at the end of movies. It’s incredibly cringeworthy 😂
Do they?

Huh. I’m an American, and in all my years of movie going experiences, nobody applauses. The most I’ve heard is a few sporadic claps at the end here or there, but it’s a rarity.

I'll listen to it a few more times, but initial listening of the soundtrack for Dune ...

It's not good. Zimmer (and his team) are directly quoting past works with some slightly tweaked sounds WAY too often. Batman is in there, Interstellar and I think I heard some Blade Runner. And that's just on the first listen. That's the problem when you take the approach he does with such simple musical ideas while being so intensely focused on the textures of those sounds. It's almost like he's given up on half of the equation in the past ten years. Maybe my mind will change with repeated listening, but I'm not a fan of all the repeated musical ideas. It's glaring.

kind of negative marketing for me. still going to watch it.

think many will lose patience and watch the mini series to continue the story. unlike GoT this already has an adaptation.

I'm gonna torture myself and do a Lynch and syfy dune re-watch before this. I used to have a really long Lynch version on VHS (had the baby worm milking, etc) not sure that is floating around anymore.

I have the extended syfy version with all the nudity, wow was that a shock after seeing it on TV first :p We'll see if Denis can top that.

That's the extended version of which Lynch has distanced himself off, it cuts out for of the more disturbing scenes like the heart plug pulling. It's on blu-ray. :messenger_winking_tongue:

They clap at everything, a celebrity showing up, planes landing, somebody doing something. It is part of becoming American somehow.

French are rude, Italians are loud, Americans clap.
I’m not sure what America you’ve been to but in my America we shoot our revolvers at the ceiling when the credits roll
