Dustborne Thread Games Update: 'We have zero tolerance for hate speech'

Just like clockwork, any failed video gaming project always ends with the developers begging for sympathy for all the oh so credible death threats they get on twitter. And by death threats I really mean nasty replies to their tweets.

Terrible reviews on MC. Even in Google reviews. I didnt know games even had google reviews, but it's 1.2/5 out of 286 reviews even worse than Concord.

Everything about this game screams that it should be satire. But it's almost like the game was written to be satire but then the people who created it didn't understand that.

Like, there's a chubby girl who is always on the toilet which is hilarious but it's also played completely straight. I don't think most body positivity activists would want to be portrayed like that but good satire also tends to bring out the loonies who embrace the thing being made fun of. I've no idea if it's intentional but it feels like this game is just taking all of these stereotypes and displaying them in their purest form and how their ideologies look when taken to their logical conclusions.

Good satire doesn't always give away that it's satire. Assuming it's satire then it's very well made but, even if it isn't, it still works as one.
 
In projectmanagement, a project is a failure when it fails to reach the intended audience.

Dustborn, on that note, has a hard time even establishing one.

How far gone do you have to be thinking this is what the audience wants, when in reality you make a game so bad, it makes Concord look good?

This is the videogame equivalent of Madame Web. Except there is no Dakota Johnson shitting on itself.
 
The more I see about this game, the more I think the people making it are taking the piss. I know that is almost certainly not true, but everything - the game concept, character design, the music lyrics, the bully/cancel mechanics, the SBI involvement, and now them claiming they are getting hate and death threats make it seem like this is a modern art piece to make fun of wokeshit.

Dustborn isn't your normal game. It didn't go through a standard process where it had normal questions asked of it (e.g., "Will people like this? Will it find a big enough audience to make it a success?"). It is a DEI project, funded by the government. The developers were paid a million+ by the government to produce the game. It is a game consciously intended to promote identity politics, and it was subsidized by the government to do exactly that.

Doesn't it all just leave a bad taste in the mouth that gaming has come to this. To think it was a hobby played by millions and become a political tool for weirdness just blows my mind

I know games have touched on topics before but this is scraping the bottom of barrel.

Yeah, looked online to see what the fuss was all about, but apparently, they even got a nonbinary character with gaslighting as a superpower. There's also an overweight muslim lesbian with vitiligo in the main cast.

This cannot be serious.

They really went with a "Let's upset everyone with our dumb gameplay" strategy and then they did.

There's also a chance that some big head in the team trolled everyone else, and then rofl-ed as he watched the (probably not all on the same page) staff break their backs trying to making this work, failing spectacularly.

That's the confusing part.

Everyone that talks about tolerance have no tolerance for others.

I don't think they know what tolerance is. It means putting up with something you don't like. But they won't tolerate anyone they don't like. Seems like they think tolerance means "you will tolerate what I want".

Oh well, they made a woke, dei, social agenda, progressive game and I'll tolerate it by not playing it and ignoring it. But I'm sure somehow they blame me because I don't want to play some piece of shit game they made. But that's what happens when you tell young and stupid people they are amazing, wonderful and are the leaders of the world. They think just because they do something that everyone is supposed to trip over themselves worshipping them.

I get too much reality and their nonsense in real life as it is, I don't want it in my games that I play to get away from it.

Actually a brilliant scam. Get your default 1.4 million USD equivalent governent grant by checking ALL the diversity boxes in your pitch > proceed to absolutely shit out a game > "subtly" make a mockery of the subject material at every turn > pocket tax payer dollars that were getting misallocated anyway.

Could easily see some jaded game dev that couldn't raise funding for their serious projects resorting to this.

They want to be astronomically overrepresented, like they are in TV and movies. That article claims nearly 30% of movies last year were LGBT. That's some nonsense. Did you hear about that recent show called *My Lady Jane* that got canceled? It was a 'what if' show, speculating what might have happened if the King of England had lived. They made the King of England gay, black, and disabled. Now, I understand wanting to race-swap fictional characters (well, not really, they should create new characters), but this trend of race-swapping historical figures who actually existed is getting quite tiresome. Like that recent Cleopatra film on Netflix, brought to us by the wonderfully racist Jada Pinkett Smith.

I don't know if it's true, as I don't have the information first hand, but there is supposed to be a "cancel" function to cancel the opponent, unsurprisingly.
If true, toxic behavior is not only tolerated here, but advocated and encouraged

Many moons ago I wanted to go into game design.
I'm nearing 40 and legit had the idea to get a quick certificate to get my ass back in there. I'm a POC. a 'marginalized' minority. I can play up the soy boy victim angle for a couple years. Sipping lattes, air conditioned studios, nice salaries, benefits. Make a nice bag at a woke studio then ride off into the sunset.

In my head Canon, this is what that Bungie Director did. The one who showed off all his new cars to the 'soon to be fired employees'
He had to watch the company he started at turn into some woke cesspool.
"Hey I'm a xir/xim! What's your pronouns?! Starlight is organizing the knitting club this week. Should be a lot of fun!"

PEOPLE, get that money. Exploit that system. Everyone else is. Corps with DEI, activists masquerading as developers.

One thing I noticed for YEARS about this sort of people is that they seem to have a complete lack of grasp for the so called "Principle of charity", which is the idea that in a debate or discussion you should always assume by default the most charitable interpretation of what your interlocutor is saying.
And despise the popularity of the notorious "horseshoe theory" where opposites on the political spectrum tend to resemble each other more than they realize, THIS is really specific to this group of fiercely left-leaning people above any other category.
I say this as someone who used to claim himself "left leaning" for most of his adult life (before they made it too embarrassing by association) and as someone who still watches to some ultra-conservative types with almost equal contempt I reserve for these rainbow-tinted clowns.

The thing is: you don't even need to stand for or openly state something that they hate to get their scorn. It's enough to say something moderate or tentative that doesn't match 100% their diktat or party line to immediately have it interpreted in the most uncharitable and offensive way possible.
They even have a whole collection of bullshit concepts to highlight the idea, like their evergreen "It's a dog whistle", which means basically "You never said it, but we are going to assumed you meant it and act like you did".
So, the "zero tolerance" claim here is pretty spot on and a rare case of complete honesty on their part.

Right there with you. I'm what I've come to think of as an old-school liberal progressive. The vast majority of what is dubbed the left these days is anything but: allergic to discussion, fractious and divisive, puritanical and ideological to an extent that borders on cultish. I have a lot of friends within this neo-progressive space and it's insane to me how insular their thinking is. Everything is good and evil, 'ally' or 'chud'; those that disagree are to be ostracised; identity trumps ideas - it's a complete breakdown of intellectual decency wrapped (as it so often is) in the cultish pretense of 'love' and 'compassion'.

It's deeply rooted in the middle-class gentrification of media. Those kinds of well-heeled, well-educated sorts used to learn ballet and violin and take jobs in fashion or publishing while sneering at the vulgarity of popular culture. Now, they own it - they've colonised the whole damn space and their first job seems to be driving out the native 'chuds' or else cilivising them.

I have zero tolerance for shitty games made by regime apparatchiks.

The only good thing one could say about this game is it doesn't have exploitive gambling mechanics, but one suspects the devs weren't competent enough to implement them.
 
I've weighed in a couple of times on being fed up with people droning on about woke this and woke that, and while the attacks on Outlaws are truly ridiculous that bully/cancel shit here is wild and they deserve everything they get (if it's real).
