As for the Xbox 360 version, it hasn't been approved yet. We'll keep you updated when it's approved. Very sorry about this! #DW8 #TKfamily

Better late than never I guess. Though they aren't out yet, so it is a bit too early to say that.
I bought the game while back home in the states finally, got a great deal on Amazon ($38). I put it in, started the tutorial, and was blown away by the lack of JP voices. I had completely forgotten about that being DLC and was pretty disappointed. Wonder how big that file is gonna be...

LOL. Xu Shu with Wang Yuanji's daggers as a secondary is a fucking nightmare for the computer on any difficulty. Her daggers ramp up the musou and rage meter faster than anything else I've seen in the game and then you can Lockdown the game with Xu Shu's arrow storm 3rd musou and do dealers choice to the folks caught in it until they die since he can just get bars of musou before the arrows run out to keep the chain going.

Best character.

EDIT:

Didn't want to double post so I figured I'd throw this in.

Do you think Dynasty Warriors will EVER tell the real story of Wu? It was the last to fall and it fell to Jin, but it seriously has taken the most liberties in terms of how it was portrayed.

The Sun family was NEVER very together. They were by and large the most insanely skilled martial arts family out there and were all legends for martial arts, but because of this they were also very self competitive for glory within the family. It was a nonstop dick measuring match in Wu and what usually stopped them from doing anything like expanding borders was the fact that they couldn't stop fucking each other over long enough to fight anyone outside their borders longer than it took to send them home sore from the martial arts prowess they held.

Here's how it ended. Sun Quan had like 3 or 4 kids. Sun Deng, Sun He, Sun Ba, and Sun Liang and later on Sun Xiu. Sun Deng was the rightful successor set to take the throne after Sun Quan but he died so Sun Quan named Sun He the next successor. A rivalry broke out with Sun He and Sun Ba. A fight broke out and it literally split Wu almost entirely in half. This shit raged on for awhile and tore their court apart. Sun Quan got pissed, deposed and sent away Sun He and made Sun Ba COMMIT SUICIDE. Sun Liang was named ruler.

Buuuuuuuuut this is Wu. Wu doesn't stand for anyone gaining glory without it pissing off someone else wanting it all for themselves. Sun Liang was young and had two regents. Sun Jun and Zhuge ke. In Wu if there are two dudes sharing power you had better bet one will attack the other and so it happened that Sun Jun killed Zhuge Ke and took all the power. He died and gave power to Sun Chen...who later deposed of Sun Liang ENTIRELY and placed Sun Xiu the last son of Sun Quan onto the throne.

...

Sun Xiu then has Sun Chen killed :D

Sun Xiu did a small campaign to win the public's favor, fucked it up, became a paranoid drunk who did nothing but fuck and drink all day and then surrendered all his kingdom to Jin when they invaded his shit after taking out shu. And I mean they invaded from 6 sides and packed it in deep on him.

That was how Wu lived and went. And before all that uncles were doing shit like getting jealous of commanders who took bases and then fucking them over by not sending them supplies until they starved and lost their glory by not being able to hold the bases. Hell Lu Xun and a ton of dudes who took sides in the Sun He and Sun Ba rivalry were killed off and died angry and alone.

Think Wu will ever get their story told? If they suddenly add a bunch of Sun someday shits gonna get real.

Koei is probably terrified of trying to do anything with Late Wu. I mean that's why we basically have Ding Feng and the undying Lianshi as the only people you fight against Late Wu.

More DLC is out!

The rest of the original costumes for Shu and Jin/Others are out at 5.99 a piece.

They also bundled all the original costumes (for the first time ever) at 21.99.

There's also the set of female wallpapers for 0.99.

And a bunch of more avatars.

One more week to that fabled Japanese voices!

I'm thinking of going straight to DW8+XL when PS4 comes out now, finishing up DW7E in the meantime.

Hopefully WO3 Ultimate comes out here too.

It's hereeeeeeeeeee!

Japanese Voice DLC is out on the PSN store. (For Free)

Also out this week is:

- Conquest Mode Base Camps 1 and 2 - $1.99 each
- Joke Weapon Pack 1, 2 and 3 - $1.99 each or $4.99 for all of them.

A little disappointed we are not getting the next set of new weapon DLCs or any new stages cause Koei is really trying to stretch how long they can release all these DLCs.

I always found the DLCs to be a bit expensive.
The Ambition Mode camp looks great though.

remember though, this generally based off the telling of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which generally portrays the Sun family in a similar way that Dynasty Warriors does.

If this was actual history, Cao Cao would probably be the hero in the game and Liu bei the villain, but you can thank ROTK for that one.

Yeehaw, finally I can really get into this game. It only took two freaking months... Hopefully next gen with both consoles having larger discs, this is no longer a thing.

I believe they said the 360 version would be later.

Not too familiar with DW DLC, any chance we'll see it all compiled in a "mega pack" at some point?

Doubtful. While TK quickly realized the potential of DLC from their end, they haven't quite mastered the consumer side of it. Al lot of the DLC attempts just come across as "Huh? Really?!" Either that or Japan just has really batty preferences and price points compared to the west.

Super mega packs of all the DLCs? Probably not.

They have been releasing packs of the DLC like all the original costumes at once or all the joke weapons in one pack.

That's probably at the most of what we'll see.

Nice to see the Japanese voices finally go up for those playing on PS3 but I really need them to drop on XBL soon. Getting so frustrated by this wait...
Then again, if it is of similar file size as the DW7 voice pack and is ~1 gig, it is going to take me an entire day to download it, so I am not looking forward to that I guess.

Those will probably never come out, due to licensing.

Also, the size for the Japanese voices is just a little over 2 GB, lol.

2 gigs? Fuck... I may have to wait until I get back to the states in March or so, because this .76 meg internet isn't going to cut it. I would have to dedicate a weekend to downloading that and since I do not have a router up here, that would mean a weekend downloading the content and not being able to surf the net or talk to my wife and daughter via webcam.

Damnit.

This stage design continues to be boring as fuck in DW8. This may be my last Dynasty Warriors unless they change it up for DW9. Samurai Warriors, all the way. Fuck linear stages and lack of ANY tension.
I don't have the game. What do you mean by linear stages? Are there less objectives that shift morale?

I don't have the game. What do you mean by linear stages? Are there less objectives that shift morale?

Linear stages in that while the stages are large, you basically go through a set path clearing objectives and here and there.

BUT, there are objectives and such that do affect morale. Which can easily lead to things like your allies being able to defend camps by themselves to being utterly wiped out by roaming cannon fodder if your morale is crap.

BadAss2961

Member
There aren't ANY objectives that shift morale so far. They're linear in that there are no side missions, or micromanaging of the battlefield at all. There's a morale bar but it has about zero factor into the game. It's just there for show, and nothing really affects it much. You know how in older games you'd have constant pop ups? Save the farmers from being wiped out! Sun Jian's troops are being starved out, escort the food to them! Things like that which are side objectives which keep the player on their toes as they go through the battles main objective as well as assisting in things that could help turn the tide.

It also doesn't help that the allies are beefy and never need help. It's boring and has no tension at all, especially after coming off of Warriors Orochi 3 where you had to haul ass to make sure you saw your way to victory in case they met the wrong foe, and rethink how you're fighting the stage.

It's just boring. I'm starting to think people who say "best Warriors game" in reference to 7 and 8 like the games for the most simple of reasons: hack and slashing. That's fine, but the other elements, the strategy and battlefield managing elements have been completely lost.

Please save us, Samurai Warriors 4. The main series has lost its shit.
Yeah, that doesn't sound too good. I enjoyed the tension of running all over the map with my red hare making sure everything went smoothly.

I plan on getting the PS4 version.

I'm with you for the most part, but I do feel this was an improvement from 7. Particularly with the optional objectives for unlocking additional stages. Some of them are pretty crazy to go get. I do agree that it's not worth getting another if they keep this linear stage design approach.

Really?! Well I know what I will be doing this weekend:
Downloading the patch on my shitty Greenlandic internet, certainly not playing the game. 1.54 GB will take me the whole day tomorrow.
No more will I have to hear the word 'benevolence.'

I started playing gain today. I played a couple hours of ambition. I have to get 9999 fame now, and my allies are maxed at 700. Will it be difficult to get all the playable officers unlocked once I get 9999 fame? In other words, how many allies are there total/what is the max?

Also, was this a gift from Koei, or a glitch? I stated it up today, and my Barracks was maxed (I believe it was around 30 when I last played, several months ago) and I had an elephant...

Uh, let's see:

- DW5/ DW4/ DW3 Costumes
- The last two new weapons, Double Fans and Bladebow
- Advanced weapon skins for all weapons
- The joke and advanced weapon skins for the DLC weapons
- Two more Ambition Mode base sets (Tropical and Retro)
- 4 more Stage packs with their own new animal
- Treasure Box Illustration Wallpapers for everybody
- We'll probably get the character polls PS3 themes as well.
- We might get the pre-order DW1/ROTK12 costumes.
- Unlikely we'll get the character vocal songs for BGM.
- Unlikely we'll get any of the collaborative costumes or animals besides maybe the Toukiden fox.

Hopefully, all the damn DLC will get released by the end of the year at this rate

Uh, realistically, probably the new weapons DLC since they add to the gameplay and all four of them have been pretty fun to use.

The costumes while nice don't add anything but does give my chaos playthrough a new fresh coat of paint.

The joke weapons could be nice since some of them are pretty good and a whole lot are easier to get than some of the character's fifth weapons.

The stages can have some nostalgia if you are into that but the animals they give are decent to ok (only one is a good enough to match Red Hare).

BGMs are ok but pricey at 2 dollars for two new songs. Lol at the wallpapers. Ambition mode themes are also not necessary either.

The game is pretty bloated with things to do anyway and none of the DLC gives you a cheap advantage (unlike DW7's joke weapons) so only if they interest you and you are willing to spend the money.

I wonder if they'll simply bundle it all for the PS4 release? I also wonder if that one will hold 60fps like the original games did. Hopefully it'll get localised - I played through all the campaigns on the PS3 but I'd not be averse to doing it again with different character choices if its running smoothly on PS4.

I thought was just a euphamism created by the books

by no means, was Cao Cao a good person, but before the book, he was hailed as a incredible military genius, and was generally looked upon with massive respect. In history also, Liu Bei was a compulsive Judas that basically destroyed his own family member to gain his ambitions. But, the story was made during the time that the Mongols were in charge in China, and it was propaganda to try and put in someone Chinese as the ruler. Hence why he chose Liu Bei, a scion to the House of Han, probably one of the most storied Dynasties in Chinese history, to replace the meddling Cao Cao, who had no claim to the throne.

Never played one of these musou games, but I'm interested in trying Samurai Warriors 3 after playing Pokemon Conquest (and I don't know what other thread to ask about it in). Is it the same hack and slash stuff in the OP of this thread?

Yup. Be warned though that vanilla SW3 for the Wii wasn't received very favorably, but it's the only version that's ever been localized.

Cao Cao was promoted by the Jin Dynasty because they inherited from the Wei Dynasty. Cao Cao was fairly well liked by scholars and the nobility, but the common people hated him. When Luo Guanzhong wrote Sānguó Yǎnyì, he drew upon the folklore and commoner traditions. Even among the former two, however, he had detractors. Cao Cao was especially hated for his treatment of the Emperor and his wives. Sure, there are/were exaggerations, but he wasn't popular.
